Commentary: Mithril = Titanium. That is all I shall say on the matter of LOTR lore.

In the chart, the BJSC invasion continues in full force. Most notably, Casey/BaNG's entry of Ciara. I think it's fair to say that when listening to these songs, I wasn't treating it as a BJSC song, due to knowing who Ciara was. However, it has shown its true colours, and has reminded me that when I can, I ought to get Basic Instinct (Amazon is always trying to make me buy it, but with Turn It Up being an amazing song, I think it's fair to say that I may get it).

Also appearing are Cocknbullkid, another sufferer of the same thing, only lesser, because I knew less about who Cocknbullkid was.

Also entering are the runner-up, Wovon Sollen Wir Traumen and This Time by Pia Toscano. I think it's fair to say, I can't wait for all the songs to be revealed on Saturday for XXXVII, in my first ever contest.

 

With the Saturdays moving up to the top 10, I enter the other three parts of the FAMED chart battle, Pixie at 17, Sugababes at 27 and Leona in a JLS and Benny Benassi sandwich at 34.

Commentary: You Need Me snatches a week at #1 from Titanium, but both are followed closely by two new entries in the top 5. One is the now successful Jar Of Hearts, which has become a beautiful piano ballad for me, after its meteoric rise to the UK top 10. The other is my BJSC entry. Many are predicting this rock song (which I'm thinking is more Pretty Reckless, so in turn, Nirvana with it) to DNQ. Fair enough. If it does by some miracle qualify, I'll be very happy, if it doesn't, on to the next contest. For myself, top 5. Other XXXVII entries will be appearing shortly in my chart.

 

Down in 11-20, Midnight City debuts at 12, and Yasmin at 15. The remainder of the new entries are MaroonXtina, Nickihanna, Rizzle Kicks, Jessie J, and Example at 22, 27, 28, 29 and 39. I suppose this is me catching up with the pop/chart tracks.

 

And then, retros. Sia's Clap Your Hands gets the honour this week, being the highlight of the tracks I've looked up as a result of Titanium.

Chart Commentary: In what will probably be my only return to #1 this year, Titanium shows its strength and takes the top spot back from Ed. Midnight City moves into the top 5, and there are two new entries in the lower half of the top 10, one being Florence and The Machine with their incredible comeback: What The Water Gave Me.

The other is where the BJSC part of this commentary comes in. Aitakute Aitakute was my 10-pointer in the semis, and unfortunately failed to qualify. This week, my entries from XXXVII have been limited to those which didn't qualify from the semi-finals (the others being Black Shadow, Daydreams and Got Me Burnin'). I don't normally enforce rules on my chart, but I thought it best for my first contest if I saved my entries which will chart from the final until after my votes were revealed (and it gave Titanium another week at the top, which it fully deserves this week. Yes, one of them looks set to debut at #1 next week). It also spreads out the entries.

 

Something weird I noticed this week. I was surfing Youtube and looking at All My Life, the only video (Criminal!), when I noticed in related videos were some LOTR/pony videos. As in putting LOTR trailer audio to pony pictures and let the magic/sadness work itself. I've probably seen those videos back at the height of my obsession with the show, being a LOTR fan as well, but I just found it strange that they were related. As it stands, All My Life falls out of my top ten this week, after having spent a solid two months in there.

 

Other new entries include the lovely fueling-my-Barbadian-obsession Cover Drive, Heart Skips A Beat and Jealousy.

Commentary:

This is what I call the BJSC effect. It makes my chart go crazy. I love every one of the 50 in here today. Firstly, Linda Teodosiu grabs the top spot. I'd been waiting to do this for several weeks, but I had a plan in order to not descend my chart into complete chaos every week. Now, it's just going to be once every 4 weeks. Titanium hangs on at 2 (SOUNDTRACK TO MY LIFE!!!), with Britney's best single this era at 3. I Am A Camera at 4, Scarlette Fever at 7, and the best from Nothing But The Beat at 8.

Then, it's absolute chaos, as my longest running songs all fall about 20 places, and there is a host of new entries, most of them BJSC related. There are a few that aren't. Sean Kingston is here due to the Inbetweeners effect, Cheers re-enters as part of the radio effect, Loca People... yeh, and Disaster because I always love a bit of JoJo, and Young London and Le Kid, they are great. And the last 3 are due to them being recommended by Liam and gooddelta. See, I have reasons.

 

As for where my own entry has fallen to, lets not talk about that. Successive entries are building up airplay. Well, they would if I was ROLEPLAYING! :P

 

Succinctness is a virtue, particularly when you are starting A2 courses. Words for the wise.

Commentary: So, I moved Ed Sheeran back to #1. This is a result of buying +. Also, on the version I'd found earlier, for some reason, the awesome 3rd and 4th verses, and in particular THAT closing line (*.*) weren't there. So I love it a lot more than I already did. :D

In new entries, Paradise is every bit as amazing as I was expecting. I had high expectations, purely because of Yellow, Clocks, Fix You and Viva La Vida, all 4 some of Coldplay's strongest songs, and all 2nd singles. Run For Your Life debuts rather high at 14, after being a massive grower, and One Direction a little lower at 20 with something far more powerful than I was expecting.

Dappy also surprised me with No Regrets, which enters at 25, followed by Night Of Your Life and Gotye ft. Kimbra each two places lower.

Two retro entries at 34 and 35, one Eric Saade with It's Gonna Rain, which drew me in due to the title, and the other Lonely Island (VIDEO!!! :D). I suppose these aren't as much retro entries as not exactly current.

Finally, a load of entries at the tail end. All good songs, haven't grabbed me totally as of yet. They all have potential, though.

Commentary: As You Need Me grabs a third week at #1, Jojo moves up behind him, with Titanium holding steady as always. Below them is a new entry from Emmon, my entry to the current BJSC. I'm feeling confident with this one, such an infectious chorus. Also entering the chart, slightly lower down is her current single Slottet. This isn't as good as Distance, for my money, so I didn't send it. I'm putting the video in down the bottom though. This woman is great.

 

I was typing this on the train tonight; it was delayed. I'm quite tired now, so I shall spare listing you the new entries this time. With the exception of Jack Sparrow, which is a little old now, but fits together really well, and a lot better than a lot of other Lonely Island stuff, who, in case you can't tell, I've been going through recently.

 

What's that? Rihanna has a new single out? I'll check it tomorrow. I am pretty sure it'll be high in here next week though, and I haven't heard it yet.

Chart Commentary:

Well, quelle surprise, Rihanna releases a song that I absolutely love, and it tops my chart quite easily. Of course, getting behind my BJSC entry (I was listening to it several times during the results last night, kept me loving it more, and while I admit I was probably over-worrying in that thread, I wanted to break my qualifying duck early ^_^ ). Titanium remains in the top 3, still.

Agnes enters the top 10 with her strong comeback, Don't Go Breaking My Heart, and Got 2 Luv U re-enters the top 10.

 

Out of those that failed to qualify, I picked my favourite discoveries that I'd been listening to loads. Chief among these is Trip Around The World, which is remarkably pleasant to listen to. Also Now Or Never, Into The Wilderness, Green, I Like, and Gabriel.

 

Final load of new entries are a retro for Iris (I still didn't like Frankie's performance, but getting a new peak is wonderful), Video Games, which really took its time getting here, my favourite album track from + (Lego House should be entering in a couple of weeks), and a bit more peddling Emmon right at the bottom. :kink:

Commentary:

 

Whew, an unchanged top 8. Just a bit of shuffling round means that Emmon's at the top. Iris moves up to the top 10, with Go right behind it.

 

New entries come from Marina & The Diamonds, who enters at 18 with Radioactive, Radio Killer, who I've made Don't Let The Music End a double A-Side with Radio Killer in my chart (due to not charting the former when I should have), 26 sees the welcome return of Labrinth to my chart, and since he's already set to see a good rise next week and I have BJSC entries chomping at the bit to get in my chart (I'll say this right now, all 29 have a good possibility of charting :o, although in reality, about 16 or so will actually make it), I have a good idea of the subtitle for next week as well. :kink:

 

Crush On You and Lose Control make up two new entries that I was aware of a month or so ago, but it's taken till now to get in, in the former's case it receiving the Radio 1 Nero treatment. (Promises was actually the Nero single I heard least on the radio :lol:)

Finally, it's James Morrison at 36.

Earthquake is a good song to describe my chart this week, and it deserves #1, however, I think the 75 songs in here are all stunners. The normal radio effect, new songs by artists I like effect and BJSC effect are all in full force.

Commentary: Well, it lasted two weeks. I'm cutting back on the amount of time I spend in this forum. I wasn't feeling charting many of the others any more. Hopefully I'll feel better next week. ******* hangovers.

 

Arms is my birthday #1. I wasn't playing it at my party. My party song goes to Vanbot's Make Me Break Me, which is equivalent to my feelings about the party, it would make me, or break me. It probably did a bit of both in the end, I feel broken. Yeh, why is it here NOW? Simple, going through old contests and XXXIII has hit me this week. I hope that when I listen to it, I won't have horrible memories of last night. Actually, doing that now, it's getting better. I was afraid it would be forever tainted with the bad aspects of house parties.

 

For a similar reason, Strawberry Shake enters at 25. This does mean that every Rontvian entry from XXXIII to present has charted in one incarnation of this chart or another.

Honey And The Bee is yet another not-quite-so-cutting-edge track. I just like my Owl City.

Retro Track Of The Week

Something that I think might be a better solution than giving one of the 40 precious slots to a retro song that's blates gonna drop out the week after, a SPECIAL SECTION! Yay! We all need it. It may not be every week, but it'll be an older track I've enjoyed a lot this week.

This week: Jordin Sparks - Battlefield! WONDERFUL! I listened to it properly for the first time a week ago, I might have heard it once or twice before. Anyway... yeh! :D

 

Plug of the week

Yeh, the standout from Alyssa's album, The Game and Alone Again aside. If you liked The Game, I'd give this a listen, it's a little more ballady, but you won't fall asleep.

 

Commentary: Coldplay grab their first number 1 on this chart (Although Viva La Vida and Fix You probably would've got there if I'd done it back then :wub:), with Rihanna. Thea Oskarsen and Andrea Dahle head up the GIGANTIC number of BJSC entries in this chart (I have listened to all of these in the chart SO many times, I love this contest. :lol: :D)

Retro Track Of The Week

I like KT, and I suppose I've been listening to this track a lot this week. Her first album is superb, and this is one of the best on there. Debating whether to put this or Another Place To Fall on here, but this just edged it for me. I like the upbeat tracks, but I can only take SO much of them.

 

Commentary: One could say that I am a fan of the Twilight soundtrack. A Thousand Years has just jumped so much, and It Will Rain clicked with me this week. Still have no plans to see the film though.

My number 1 is a standout track from Before The Dinosaurs. I haven't heard if it's the next single, although I would love it to be. I think I prefer Friends to Geronimo. Just by a bit. :wub:

 

You Make Me Feel also clicked with me this week, and launches itself into the top 5. I'm having a big clearout this week. Also, that woman at number 7 with this song called Marry The Night, I'm not quite sure who she is, but word is that she's quite weird.

 

I pretty much swapped Talk Me Down for a late appearance by Alone Again from Alyssa. The original is one of my favourite songs, and this was how I originally found her and went on to The Game, and it's a pretty damn good cover, I began to feel sorry that I never charted it. So here you go.

 

Walking On Water is the main track from Letters I've been listening to. As Starlight is next single, I'm sure that will appear soon. But for now, this is a superb album track.

 

Afrojack, some slightly late Caotico and Lucenzo make up the remaining new entries. Peace out. ^_^

Get ready, Gooddelta... :P Anyway, this would be what, after a bit of accustomising to the album, I would describe as my stand out. It's amazing! The energy of the track is so awesome! Last Night On Earth, Extraordinary Day and Out Of The Blue are great as well, but this is my favourite. Extremely strong album though.

 

Standard commentary: The One That Got Away makes a slightly late debut at #1, after I realised it is SEVERAL KINDS OF AWESOMENESS! The video is brilliant as well. All this money can't buy me a time machine...

Cady Groves moves up to #2. Appreciate! :wub:

Also, that Flo Rida thing at #36. It's just temporary until Levels charts. :P Seriously, though, I do like Flo Rida, and this one is rather good. It's just all rather derivative. We'll see in the coming weeks.

I have gained a little bit of a re affection for this one this week. It's one of my favourite Shakira songs. The bit where she says 'Don't Bother, I'll be fine' gets me every time. :cry: :) Had a winter walk with this (I've recently purchased my first iPod, a 160GB Classic, and this has come up quite a bit.

And The Saturdays get their first #1 since... about this time last year with Higher (which is one of my backdated number 1s, but NEVER MIND). The fact it sounds quite like Alexis Jordan has NOTHING, NOTHING I repeat, to do with it topping my chart a couple of days after hearing it. :kink: I've got the album, but I chose to give it (and Headlines and Chasing Lights) to my brother for a Christmas present. So I have to wait almost a month before I've got a proper version on my iTunes. But it's too good to miss out on.

 

And then there is Storytime. Until a few weeks ago, I only knew of Nightwish through epic-sounding track off Century Child known as End Of All Hope. I have since had a Nightwish reawakening, and Storytime, with all it's symphonic brilliance, goes right in after Faster.

 

Farewell moves up to the top 10. I'm a real sucker for any RiRi ballad.

 

Diamonds And Waste was my favourite of the 12 tracks that failed to qualify in BJSC XL. It gets a #12 on my chart as a bit of a commiseration. Also, note Best Kept Secret and Hunting Season further down. Stay tuned next week for more action on that front.

 

Also, Take Care is fairly great.

This time, I've chosen: The Shamen - Ebenezer Goode. No real comment. E's aren't good though. Don't take them, kids. Take Eyes instead, it'll brighten up your life a treat. Actually, choosing a track from a year before I was born. WHAT AM I THINKING?! ^_^

 

Full Commentary: There was only really going to be one conclusion the minute I heard the semis (Well, about 2 listens in, but come on). It's just waited a while cuz o mah chart rules that are there becuase I put them there. Still love The Sats though. May well be my top 2 till the year ends.

 

1000 Ships follows in as the second highest new entry, followed by a host of other entries from the contest. Of note is that beautiful cover of End Credits which I only gave two points to. So glad it finished top 10!

 

Also, You Better Leave gets in at 16! Decided I had to chart it this week, it's fairly brilliant.

 

Lots of stuff dropping massively, we have busy charts this year. That's why I've taken back a top 50 again, remaining true to my roots etc.

The rest of activitiy in the top 5 is shuffling around, as Nightwish nearly gain the #1 denied to them by the Saturdays a few weeks ago.

Highest entry comes from Coldplay with Charlie Brown, who have 3 entries in the 15-20 region. The second highest entry comes from... The Military Wives! :o

It's quite a charming song, very well sung, too, so good on them.

 

Possible growers enter the lower half of the chart, so rises for them should be possible in the New Year.

Commentary: It had to be done. I had to give Nightwish the #1. Excellent track. It brings a nice closer to 2011, which has been a great year for some of these #1s, and not a great year for a few others. We'll have to see in 2012 if any track can stay at #1 for more than 1 week. :o

Fight For You and Born To Die both make excellent leaps into the top 5, while The Saturdays see a good week on the chart as a result of On Your Radar. Get Ready Get Set is CUTE! :D

 

That Gotye track might have made a sneaky re-entry.... Who knows what it'll do in the New Year.
