It's gone too far in my opinion now - as much as I dislike Thatcher, I wouldn't want to see it as #1.

As much as you do not like Thatcher, I don't think you got a leg to stand on since you wasn't born when she was in office... but I do share your sentiments.

Anyhow back on topic please.

Total irrelevance as the effects of her actions are still being felt today.

Paramore being in the mid 20s combined is pleasing.

Isn't it just! #56 was way too low a peak for a song like this.

From the looks of things, according to a thread on Digital Spy, "Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead" will not be counted towards the official chart on Sunday due to the song being purchased on the grounds of political views.

This article entirely disproves that.

Wow, it's "God Save The Queen" all over again.

No way do I believe that!

By that score charity singles shouldn't be counted either.

There have been overtly political songs before which have charted and although the reasons for buying this are distasteful a sale is a sale whatever the motive for purchase.

Besides, isn't it already no.54 so far this week so it must count.

Here is the post from that topic's creator clarifying what he's posted:

Just to set everyone clear:- Channel 5 news had an interview with the showbiz editor of The Sun tonight, in relation to his views on the song. He explained that he had contacted the Official Charts Company who believed that the song didn't represent a single which was being bought in relation to musical taste but on the grounds of political views, which could cause both conflict and hurt to some listeners. The Official charts company PROHIBIT such tracks to be counted in relation to chart positions. Itunes are still allowing the song to be purchased as the song itself is not meant to cause offence in anyway, all profits of the song will go to the producer of the track. However the song will not be play listed on the Official Top 40 Chart Show on any platforms come Sunday. The public can still buy the song, and it will chart on independent charts however it will not be shown on the Official charting outlets. Radio stations are still permitted to play the song BUT not during Official Chart Countdowns.

Watch Channel 5 News tonight again Id say it will even be on BBC1 and ITV since it statistically has reached #1

:manson: Do we not live in a free country?

A sale is a sale, even though I think its distasteful that people are buying this song to celebrate her death - it should be counted towards the Official Chart as the chart needs to represent what people have been BUYING.

For the record, I don't have a strong opinion on her (I wasn't alive when she was PM) but from what I've heard it's fair to say that she deserves some of the hate she's getting.

Now I hope it gets to number one. This is an important statement.

And the source for it is THE SUN. 100% certain that's bollocks.

The tabloid that will undoubtedly be stopping at nothing this week to portray all people in this campaign as EVIL SCUM OF THE EARTH FOR CELEBRATING THE DEATH OF ONE OF THE FACE OF GREAT BRITAIN - can't say I'm surprised -_-

Rage Against The Machine was bought reflecting a protest and there was undoubtedly an underlying political meaning there, they didn't seem to have a problem counting that.

Pre-order update

232. Diana Vickers - Cinderella

239. Selena Gomez - Come & Get It

They can't not allow a song to chart - regardless of anyone's view on the moral correctness of it. If people are paying money for a track (whatever your view towards their motivation) then they have a right for it to chart. That's part of what makes the download era so exciting. Look at PJ and Duncan; without downloads they wouldn't have hit the chart again. The chart has a obligation to reflect what the public is buying. And the song in itself is not offensive, just the meaning behind it.
I don't really see how they can disqualify it from the chart when they didn't disqualify Rage Against The Machine. That was only being bought to make a statement too.

Rage Against the Machine wasn't really that controversial though. It was just anti-X Factor, and Radio 1 were even playing it quite a lot in the week running up to it getting #1.

Good on them for 'banning' it, although I agree the charts should be entirely reflective of the music-buying public. Leaves Duke Dumont with only one competitor to keep an eye out for - Pink; so hopefully he can walk a second week at the chart summit.

Odd to see Paramore doing so well with "Still Into You", especially given "Now" is the one getting rotation on R1. The former is admittedly more radio friendly though, so it'll be nice to welcome them back into the charts properly (not just for one week at #39) with a radio-friendly track.
