Surely the attention garnered from I Love Margaret Thatcher will just increase sales for Ding Dong? If the plan was to counter it, that's backfired.

I reckon the everybody loves Margaret Thatcher will garner buyers from various political backgrounds. Everyone who objects to Ding Dong will perhaps consider downloading this! Number twenty now...
I don't think the BBC News / the media in general realise that if they had completely ignored Ding Dong! then the campaign would have failed, or at least not been as successful as it has.

I think the 'Ding Dong' campaign is highly tasteless but there is no way I'm going to download a track called "I'm in Love with Margaret Thatcher"!

How about DDTWID for no.1 this week and IILWMT no.1 next week for the funeral?

Sounds insane of course but I'd have said the same just a few days ago about DDTWID being comfortably at no.1 on iTunes by this time......

It is quite ironic isn't it? If they'd just ignored it, then it probably would have barely made the Top 10.

Oh well, we can all blame the Daily Mail now for sending it to #2 - or at least that's the kind of twisted logic that they would use in one of their hate-filled stories.

Correct.

Yesterday the track was stabilising on Kworb. Today was the first day this got properly beyond internet sites & forums and into the mainstream media, i.e. TV & newspapers. On the BBC news it was considered second in importance only to North Korea starting a nuclear war FFS!

And look what happens, the track surges in popularity.

I think that the people that hated Thatcher wouldn't be seen dead buying I Love Margaret Thatcher so unless they have no shame, I can't see them downloading it.

woah... Ding Dong, PSY, WWE, I'm in love with Margaret thatcher...

What a week!

Let's be honest, the BBC are loving this. They may say they are in a pickle - but this has garnered more interest in the UK charts/#1 then it has had for years. Their listenership will rocket on Sunday, and more importantly from listeners who perhaps wouldn't dream of listening had this not happened.

2013 the year of the weird chart!

That's a good point, they have certainly milked it for all it's worth.
You're right. The BBC will want to push this whole chart battle for as much as its worth - especially with Thatchers funeral next week. It hasn't had publicity like this for a long time.

Notsensibles - I'm in Love With Margaret Thatcher  #12

David Cameron: WHAT! Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead is #1 on iTunes

Nick Clegg: What are we gonna do about this David?

David Cameron: Let's release a pro Margaret Thatcher song and knock those twits off #1
