North East engineer Andrew Wylie is over-the-moon that his quirky mobility scooters are being used in a music video starring pop star Robbie Williams

Pop star Robbie Williams has a new set of wheels – a mobility scooter with a twist made on Tyneside.

The Chronicle has previously reported how North East engineer Andrew Wylie was the first in the country to make quirky scooters in the guise of Harley Davidsons and Land Rovers.

And, thanks to our coverage, the 39-year-old’s imaginative runarounds were spotted by MTV and Channel 4.

Now, they are being used in a new music video set in London featuring Robbie Williams and Dizzee Rascal.

The pair were snapped on the scooters as they recorded their new single Goin Crazy, which is expected to be a number one hit in the summer.

Engineer Andrew has had his Whitley Bay-based shop, Travel Mobility UK, for more than 12 years and said he’s been over-the-moon with the response since first appearing in the Chronicle.

The dad-of-three said: “After the story appeared in the Chronicle, it went everywhere.

“And, not long after, we had a call from Channel 4 wanting us to make one to be in a documentary. Unfortunately, they only gave us two weeks’ notice, which was an impossible time frame and we had to say no.

“But, earlier this year we then got a call off MTV who told us they wanted us to make a few, which they could hire, to use on a new music video. They gave us a time frame of two months, which was more manageable.

“The funny thing was, that literally a day of so later, Channel 4 rang again and said they wanted some for a programme they were making called I’m Spazticus.

“For the video, we sent eight scooters, a mix of Harley Davidson bikes and a Twin Seat Scooter, which was custom-built by myself.

“When they rang, I was dead excited. I thought, I have to do this, I would be silly to knock it back. You just don’t know where it will lead. It was great seeing pictures of the scooters in the paper with Robbie Williams and Dizzee Rascal, I was really chuffed. When I saw him, I thought, “He’s sitting on my scooter!”.”

The scooters will also be appearing in the new series of Channel 4’s I’m Spazticus, a comedy where a cast of disabled talent prank members of the public.

Now, the scooters are all back with Andrew in Whitley Bay and he plans to auction them off for charity.

He said. “Some of the mirrors belong to the production company, so I’ve contacted them to ask if I can have them to put on the scooters and auction them off exactly how they’ll appear in the video.”

Andrew learned his trade largely through his dad, who ran a garage close to Newcastle’s Byker Bridge for 25 years.

He got into his current market by wanting to bring something different to the mobility scooter market.

Goin Crazy is out on June 17.

Dizzee Rascal and Robbie Williams in ‘Goin Crazy’!

Dizzee Rascal has teamed up with Robbie Williams for his summer smash hit sounding new song Goin’ Crazy.

The Robster instantly fits into the video and the style of the clothing really suits him, he effortlessly slips into the cool mood required of the video as he takes control of the opening scenes walking into view before getting onto a modified scooter.

In fact Robbie is a lot more than a feature and it take a full minute for Dizzee Rascal to start his rapping part – he is also on a mobility scooter in a Mod style.

If we get some sun to go with this song then I’m sure it will be a mega hit for both artists!

Robbie said of the collab “the song instantly sounded like a smash. I love Dizzee’s vibe, his energy and he is a real talent. He seems to be the voice of this generation, so it was a no-brainer.”

Goin’ Crazy is out 17 June. The single will be featured on Dizzee’s forthcoming album ‘The Fifth’.

This could be a mega tune I think. Then again, what do I know? :P
I'm laughing at all the comments on YouTube. Most are positive. But a minority of Dizzee fans want to know what he's doing collaborating with such an ancient old git
I'm sure Gordon Smart from the Sun is in the video. Standing talking to Robbie?
Will take your word on that one, I don't know what Gordon Smart looks like :P

Here he is. With Robbie.

I actually don't think it was all that long ago. Maybe a couple of years?
