It was a very good scene, I loved the counting down aspect and it was really the only scene where we saw the true heartlessness of the Master butttt, it shouldn't have happened to someone like Osgood, she could have become a really good UNIT character.

I was more upset over he death than Dannys

No I agree with you but I loved her character and it was completely ignored by the other characters (including Kate! I thought they were related!)

Finally managed to watch this - The episode right up until Missy came down to the graveyard with an umbrella was brilliant. I think Missy's plan on paper seemed great, loved the pollinating cloud and and it looked like the Cybermen were finally going to be a real threat without being backgrounded like they have been for the last few episodes they've been in. Clara in the graveyard scene and the plane action scene was a great mini mixture of action and creepiness and Missy was...well excellent, brilliant casting choice there.

But then it went a bit downhill, it just seemed to be resolved far too quickly from what it was set up and I just didn't buy this whole 'I want my friend back' thing, for someone as evil as The Master, it doesn't seem believable that her plan rested on that and then it all stops when the Doctor says 'No', was quite an unsatisfactory conclusion to this rather interesting 'Am I a good man?' question. Far too much Danny as well, I know I've said it before, but I just never got him as a character and still found him to be terminally dull even as a Cyberman. Ultimately, even though the set up looked for the Cybermen to be great, they ultimately weren't that threatening, the plane scene aside, no one even seemed scared of them :/

I still didn't feel enough was said about Clara after it was revealed Missy put them together, what was her intention with that? I may have missed it.

The actual conclusion, with Danny's decision and Clara & The Doctor's mutual lying to one another was very well done, so there's that at least. I'm sure Missy/The Master isn't actually dead either, hopefully not anyway.

Probably around a 7.5/10 overall, solid but feel it was built up too much to be something great (I particularly didn't like how last week's hook 'Clara Oswald never existed' was taken completely out of context and thus not at all effective overall) and I ended up being slightly let down. But, on a more positive note, I do feel this series has been a big improvement on the previous two and I was satisfied overall, Capaldi really has made it for me, hope he stays for a long time yet.

MICHELLE GOMEZ HAS CONFIRMED IN DWM THAT SHE'LL BE BACK IN SERIES 9 *.*

YESYESYES

She was really good as the Master, would've been a waste for them to only use her for one plot.

Peter Capaldi is continuing as the Doctor in series nine! :D If this had been confirmed at the beginning of the series, I would have been disappointed but his interpretation of the character grew on me so much throughout the season. Jenna is still unconfirmed, I'd like to see her back though but I'm not sure what more she can give us. As long as her ultimate ending isn't the way Rose, Donna and Amy went, I'll be happy.
Well if we're to believe rumours that Clara could be pregnant (allowing for continuity, what with Orson Pink having existed in 'Listen'), I'd rather she leaves in the Christmas special, because it'll be Amy all over again, but if she isn't I'd happily see her stay for series 9 (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, etc. :kink:)
Catherine Tregenna, who has written four episodes of Torchwood ('Out of Time', 'Captain Jack Harkness', 'Meat' and 'Adam') is apparently writing an episode for series 9. First female writer for the show since 'The Sontaran Stratagem' / 'The Poison Sky'! :o

The Christmas special is called 'Last Christmas'!

The Doctor and Clara face their Last Christmas. Trapped on an Arctic base, under attack from terrifying creatures, who are you going to call? Santa Claus!

I wish the Christmas specials would go back to just being amazing stories taking place on/around Christmas, rather than being all about Santa, snowmen & Dickens...

Fantastic news about Missy!!

I'm hoping this Christmas special is going to be great, though I hope Jenna doesn't go yet as I loved her in the last series but its the nature of the show I guess to change the companions.

Doctor Who does The Thing - sounds great

Doctor Who does The Thing with Santa - sounds crap

But I never take the xmas episodes seriously as they've all been dodgy except the last one and the first one. If it's not crap I'll call that pleasantly surprised.

As for Osgood or whatever her name is I wouldn't put it passed Moffat to have the Zygon version version killed/still alive

Hopefully Clara doesn't leave in this years Christmas ep.
Hopefully Clara doesn't leave in this years Christmas ep.

Well The Mirror are now claiming that she won't be leaving until part of the way through series 9 because she had a "change of heart", but The Mirror are the same people who started the rumour that she was leaving in the first place. So my guess is she was never really leaving.

  • 2 weeks later...
The new trailer appears to show

Clara dusting a blackboard with chalk reappearing saying 'YOU', 'ARE' and 'DYING'

:o

The first episode of series 9 is titled '

The Magician's Apprentice

', confirmed at the end of the 'Last Christmas' screening!

I must admit that was one of the best Xmas specials for a long time. after an iffy start, as the episode run on it got better, had a great cast, and the creatures were a bit scary, on the whole a great episode, looking forward to the next season.
