I didn't care about the name of the Dr. actually, the actual name of the show is called Dr. Who, it would have taken the sting out of the actual TV title, otherwise the next series would be called Dr. Paul or something.

But the name of the Doctor was not his secret anyway. It was clever writing from Steven Moffat - in the way that this new Doctor (or

the Valeyard

) did not act "in the name of the Doctor", the name that the Doctor himself chose when he set off through time and space back at the very beginning. He went against everything that the name 'Doctor' stood for, and what the Doctor had agreed to when he took on that name. The Doctor's secret was the new Doctor that we'll be seeing in the 50th.

Thankfully, though, this week the show gained viewers.

That was a bloody good finale. I wasn't expecting much after the rather dismal second half of the series, but I was still hopeful that Moffat might pull something out of the bag and he sure did. I LOVED the explanation for there being multiple Claras - it was very inventive - and River's goodbye scene was touching. The "new" Doctor is a fantastic idea too. There are a couple of niggly things that irritate/confuse me but I will try to ignore my OCD because that was one of the best episodes in a LONG time.
I love how Moffat brought both the arcs of the Silence and the mini-arc of Clara and the TARDIS' love/hate relationship full circle. Very nice (yet 'hint-y') touches to the episodes.
I rewatched tonight and that scene between River and the Doctor was simultaneously a geek overload and super super sad.

That was the best finale in quite some time, I liked how it wasn't all just loads of monsters crammed in and all about the special effects with an ending that just feels rushed (Hello Pandorica Opens), but it actually jhad a lot of thought put into it - the resolutions all made sense and the Great Intelligence were a rathet terrifying and excellent villain and the companions (and River, who I didn't like much prior) were all great.

Incredible ending as well and loved all the references to the past - November is gonna be a long wait...

November has never seemed so far away.

The BBC have said where the clips of the classic Doctors have come from.

The 1st Doctor's clips were both a mixture of old footage (from The Aztecs) and new footage.

The 2nd and 3rd Doctor's clips were both old footage from The Five Doctors.

The 4th Doctor's clips were old footage from The Invasion of Time.

The 5th Doctor's clips were old footage from Arc of Infinity, while the 6th Doctor's clips were new footage.

The 7th Doctor's clips were old footage from Dragonfire.

The 8th and 10th Doctors appeared only very briefly, but as we can see - Clara visited the Library, and saw the Doctor, and is in what looks like the clothes she was wearing when she was in the Dalek Asylum.

Well that was much better wasn't it?

Even if Clara being Jaggerothed was pretty obvious for those who've seen City Of Death and it's a pity the character isn't more interesting in other ways but hopefully that will come. I'm also hoping that John Hurt is The Valeyard as I always thought he was a fantastic idea that should have been used so much more.

Loved the clips of the old Doctors although I did feel some could have been worked better if the episode had a longer running time. Liked the Whispermen but doubt we'll see much of them again.

All in all a great end to an underwhelming season.

BBC website has called the anniversary special an "Earth-shattering adventure", should we take that as a hint?
Series 4 > series 5 > series 6 > series 3 > series 2 > series 7 > series 1

The prequel to The Name of the Doctor, Clarence and the Whispermen, has been released (which is also on the Series 7 Part 2 DVD/Blu-Ray):

Series 7 average = 7.44 million

including 'The Snowman' = 7.61 million

Slightly down on previous years but still quite strong after 8 years.

Nice to see it ended on the same as the first episode. Time for a new doctor yet? :D

Are they using a 7-year-old photo of Billie to promote this?

EDIT: It's fanmade! Phew!

Matt Smith is leaving Doctor Who!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/artic...eave-Doctor-Who

Matt previously said that he would be there for Series 8, but the article released by the BBC states that he will leave the show and regenerate in the 2013 Christmas special.

It is also rumoured that 12 episodes will air non-stop, starting August 2014.

Whilst I think it's for the best, I do feel a little sad that another era is coming to an end :(
