I find the whole "emo" genre irritating. There is not one good band amongst them.

Why is this music selling by the shedloads?

It bugs me that great bands like Crimea, Guillemots & Hope Of The States are not getting a look in, whilst adolescents are buying $h1t by Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco & Funeral For A Friend etc.

On a MTV2 they had two members of Fall Out Boy select 10 Morrissey/Smiths videos. Yet their knowledge on the legend that is "Mozzer" was shockingly poor. They did not know the name of "the guitarist dude" in the Smiths ffs. "Yeah. Like. Morrissey's. Lyrics. Are. Aweeee-sssommee". :arrr: :arrr:

It is bad enough that an act that I hate claims to have been inspired by Morrissey, but I was not going to stay up & watch two of Panic! At the Disco select 10 of their favourite Cure videos. :puke2:

That is another thing that bugs me about "emos" - why do they speak each word as if it is part of a separate sentence? :arrr:

I agree with your assessement of the current crop of so-called "Emo", bands like MCR, FFaF and PitD are just shockingly lame, it's Pop/Rock at best, and the only thing that separates it from stuff like McFly or Blink 182 is the singers in "Emo" bands do more screamy, whiny vocals and they dress in black..... It is a bit of a joke that they claim to be inspired by Morrissey/The Smiths and The Cure, as they clearly have no idea what these bands were about judging by their material....

I rate AFI, At The Drive In, Jimmy Eat World, etc, because they are more in the spirit of what Emo originally was about - "Emotional Hardcore" - that is, mixing underground Hardcore Punk Rock with the sensibilities of The Smiths, The Cure, The Fall, Joy Division, Talking Heads, etc

......... i like 'helena'.. mcr.... lol.

i think its pretty 'normal' for hip new bands to cite old greats as influential, despite having no knowlege of them at all! lol, its just bullsh... image, spin..

if they were really insipred by the material of any group then they would know more about them.

  • 2 weeks later...

see the NME has gone out big guns this week for their anti-emo cover.

however if the Daily Mail are covering it (like the NME said), maybe its becoming such a dodgy thing that it might be time to say you like Papa Roach again

Tell me about it mate, I've got an ancient U2 T-Shirt that I use as rag to wash windows and mirrors....

I've never really 'got' the whole Emo movement, it kinda happened outta nowhere, or am I just slow?

As far as I can see, it's just a trend or a subculture like any other. Typically teenage I suppose.

I think it's actually become somewhat fashionable to hate emos now though. Personally I couldn't care less about them. It's just another subculture, and frankly there are worse sorts of teenagers out there.

Limp Bizkit... now that really was a mistake I made when I was in high school.

I never bought a T-shirt, but I did buy their Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavoured Water album... and I ended up giving it away! As did the person who I gave it away to.

No, those songs were naff, the rest was total c**p! :P

goth was accidentally created by siouxsie sioux, who is probably the queen of punk, and godmother of 'goth'.

and has new album out on W14 Records (a Universal records imprint for really really old pop stars) coming out soon.
