It seems weird that the most recent song so far on the countdown is the only one I have no recollection of whatsoever.

I unashamedly loved "Angel in the Night" back in 2008 (more so than the previous two singles) - looking back, it was indeed poor.

I've not heard the other two, but this is such a great idea for a countdown! :D Hopefully "The Sign" by Ace of Base appears much higher up!

I haven't heard any of the songs in the countdown so far (not even the Basshunter one!) but I am looking forward to the rest of the countdown, hopefully we see a lot of Avicii, Eric Prydz and Swedish House Mafia! Would also like Euphoria to be as high as possible.

I was going to point this out but didn't want to. It's right though.

Indeed so hence my initial post of the "liberal" interpretation of "scandinavia", though culturally Iceland and Finland are often included. For the record the countries represented here are Sweden Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands (though the latter don't contribute anything to the list)

Hoping for lots of Bjork on this countdown, she's probably the biggest Scandinavian act in the UK through the 90s.

97. WOMAN- Neneh Cherry (104,000)

Since her breakthrough in 1988 Cherry had rather disappointed sales and position wise but got a second wind thanks to duets with Youssou N’Dour and her Comic Relief contribution in the mid 90s which ensured that a return with a third album in 1996 was something to be noted. Similar in theme and a response to James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s World” Cherry found herself in the top 10 for the last time. The video incidentally features Andy Serkis before Gollum happened.

96. DRESSED FOR SUCCESS- Roxette (105,000)

Undoubtedly the biggest Scandinavian act of the early 90s Roxette were another band who found US success before the UK really took note. This track was released first in 1989 failing to make the top 40 here but hitting the top 20 in both the US and Australia, post the success of “It Must Have Been Love” it got a re-issue in late 1990 finally make the big 20 over here.

95. SHOW ME LOVE- Robyn (107,000)

Another track which did much better in the US before the UK gave it time of day, this was the first top 10 hit for Robyn who finally arrived on these shores. Those hoping for an extended stay in the UK consciousness were in for a disappointment, it took her 9 years to make the big top 10 again but then it was in some style.

The Faroe Islands are technically a part of Denmark anyway.

I didn't want to offend nationalists! :D

I'd forgotten about Roxette. I really enjoyed a lot of their singles in the early 90s. It Must Have Been Love is still wonderful.
Neneh, Roxette and Robyn tracks are just gorgeous, for some reason I prefer Joyride to Dressed For Success, their earlier material from their first 2 albums was the best era, after the soundtrack to Pretty Woman, they went a bit south for me.
