Cher Lloyd - Swagger Jagger is #99 on itunes album's off pre orders so far :)

Edited by Brooke_x

Acts like JLS, Leona etc. have worked hard to remove their relation to X Factor - doesn't appear to be the case with Cher.

How did JLS and Leona work more than Cher to remove their link to X Factor?

Leona was the girl with the big ballads on the show, and that's the route she followed then (with her first album at least). She didn't change her image much between her victory and her first campaign, I think. Not to mention the numerous promo appearances she did on the show.

I don't state this as a bad thing, but I just don't see how Leona distanced herself from the X Factor more or less than Cher does at the mo?

Leona etc set themselves out at as individual artists with some sort of different identity. Cher's debut single is essentially a retort to people's opinions on her garnered from the show. Essentially two fingers up to anyone who disliked her on the show. She became synonymous for her cover of 'Turn My Swag On' and her debut single proper is called errr... 'Swagger Jagger'. She's not exactly going to gain herself any fans with this that she hasn't gathered from the show which is a very dangerous to launch someone for forever and always...

Flash-in-the-pan success and then disappearing soon after a la Vickers is my prediction...

The Vickers template is exactly what we're looking at here - Summer launch, #1 single, album which has the potential to be a minor hit but soon flunks out when the follow-up single bombs in at #23, the only difference being that Diana was always a 50/50 love/hate act whereas Cher is about 15/85 love/hate and thus her fame and 'success' will be even shorter-lived.

Plus, loathe as I am to defend Diana, there was a sense that she plugged away hard in the studio on her record and put some thought into it.

But it could be oh so different if Syco toned her down a bit, got rid of the bratty, confrontational styling/personality and actually promoted her as a genuine, talented artist as opposed to a gimmick with lots of BIG BIG NAMES floating around her. But them Syco have only seen pound signs in their eyes 1 metre down the path. 30 miles doesn't exist to them...
I find it strange that this is in the R&B, Hip-Hop and Soul Forum. If this is any example of what those genres have become then :|

I dont think the issue is about toning down her image, making her less confrontational or the gimmicks it is starting her out with a song that actually shows she has talent I cannot believe this was the best from her months of recording. It is odd that even The Sun which tends to avoid attacking the X-factor brand is not playing ball.

I was thinking this a few months ago when it seemed on on the first page there was no real hip hop, r&b or soul artists in this forum? If anything this should be named the 'black people singing autotuned pop' forum...

lol exactly what I came into here to say.

I think this song sucks on a personal level, on xfactor I didn't like her either... but I expected her to come out with something more of a grimier sound. She is the epitome of a poseur, but I could see this fairing well in the uk. Here in the US though, it wouldn't do much of anything tbh imo.

Do you take pride in this travesty?

I think this campaign is being handled better than Diana's mess of a campaign, personally. They ruined her chances by having the debut single premier ridiculously early, and choosing crap follow up singles that sounded like the first release (I've always had a dislike for 'The Boy Who Murdered Love', so I'm not just saying this either :P).

But with Cher, they seem to have got the premier date and the release date just fine and the promotion is going well for it at the moment. I do agree with Jake though, in the sense they should have steered right away from the "annoying brat" image they're wanting from her. But it's Syco, this should have been expected from them. I am suspecting there will be a ballad release the week the album comes out, ready to promote on X Factor, whether they try and push for another single before that will remain to be seen but that'll get her the fans she needs to sell her album. I believe this will be her 'Do It Like A Dude' and will end up being one of the worst on the album... that's how I personally see it.

I'm still adoring this and can't take it off repeat, but I realise I'm in the minority, so no need to point it out to me people! :P

Do you take pride in denying other people the right to an opinion? Because, I find that boring, "love".

This is in the same league as 'The Club Is Alive' and 'Start Without You' imo. A complete mess.
