Posted May 27, 201312 yr Girl Gone Wild ● (2012) ● 'MDNA' http://i41.tinypic.com/2v324uc.jpg Just for you, Haus. Background Upon working on material for her twelfth studio album MDNA, Madonna collaborated with Benny Benassi - previously responsible for the video remix of the song 'Celebration' - who produced demos that later became 'I'm Addicted', 'Best Friend' and 'Girl Gone Wild'. In fact, the latter song was originally titled 'Girls Gone Wild', however a day before it was due to be performed at the halftime of the Super Bowl XLVI, Joe Francis threatened to sue due to the song sharing the same name as his franchise and violating trademark laws with the "subject line of her various advertisements in order to lure potential consumers to purchase her latest musical effort". As a result, the title was changed and was not performed, although Madonna's management team have denied this was due to the potential lawsuit. Critically, 'Girl Gone Wild' received mixed views, with some praising its dance genre - Idolator claming it "[turns] up the heat on the dancefloor" and Pop Crush calling it a "club-ready song" - whilst some criticised its "reductive" lyrics and "clumsy reference to past triumphs". Comparisons were given to Britney's 'Till the World Ends', Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' and Usher's 'DJ Got Us Falling In Love', as well as Madonna's own 'Get Together' and 'Celebration'. 'Girl Gone Wild' performed successfully in the charts in some European charts, reaching the Top 10 in Italy, Spain and Hungary. However, it saw an all-time low in Madonna's chart history in the UK, only just scraping the Top 75, and also fared equally as bad in the US, missing out on the Billboard Hot 100. It did manage to become her 42nd number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart. For the MDNA Tour, 'Girl Gone Wild' was chosen as the shows opener, containing elements of 'Material Girl' and 'Give It 2 Me'. It was then combined with Madonna's performance of 'Hung Up'. Opinion I thought this was a decent album opener, although admittedly some lyrics are too generic and the chorus is some what weak. However it's solid beats and the fun of it all allows me to overlook that and enjoy it. I love the single cover, she may be comfortably into her 50s but she is still majorly hot  (even with the aid of photoshop). This is again shown in the fabulous video, which is certainly the best from this era. May 27, 201312 yr YES. Absolute anthem  Easily the best thing she's done in the last 5 years. Don't even care how generic and predictable it all is, it just works and the middle eight/final minute in particular is EVERYTHING.
May 27, 201312 yr I love this song and video I didn't instantly love it though !!! Can't believe it performed so poorly on the charts despite the lack if promo !!
May 27, 201312 yr This era was completely miss judged! The Video was cracking, the song lacked believability. I have to say Madonna looks sexy as hell in this era! She dances amazingly, better than ever. They should have bitten the bullet and released Gang Bang followed by I'm addicted. Gang Bang as inappropriate as it was was the stand out winner, very different and everything a Madonna song should have been. I'm addicted was also very hot. GGW as sad as it is for me to say, was a low point for my ears, sorry folks. I have never said anything like this about Madonna, cause she will always be great in my mind. It's very American to sing about a 'Girl' type theme, but its also dated. Madonna is queen of reinvention, so should have moved on from titles featuring 'Girl', as its predictable. I'm positive that Madoona will get back on track with the Classics, which I hope are around the corner in order to win back the listening ears of the mainstream public. Lets have no more missed opportunities.
May 28, 201312 yr The song grew on me in the end, but it is a bit tragic. I did hear this everywhere I went when I was in Gran Canaria last September (mind you, a lot of gay people were out there so that may explain it). Edited May 28, 201312 yr by Silver Rocket
