Posted May 28, 201312 yr http://www.userlogos.org/files/logos/sjdvda/Coldplay2.png Good evening all. Following in the footsteps of the previous rates, its time to start the next one - based on the one and only Coldplay! I don't think there's ever been a rate on them before and I know they can stretch the definition of 'indie', but I still feel that this is the right place for them and they have one hell of a back catalogue. As a huge fan myself and following in the footsteps of the previous rates on this forum, I thought it would be right to start this. I am hoping they'll be a decent level of interest in this, but I'll wait and see. On to the scoring itself, the rules are fairly self explanatory, you must simply rate the following list of singles and, optionally, albums. I have attempted to compile something of a 'definitive' list for their career so far, including a few better known album tracks. If there's any glaring omissions, just let me know: SINGLES xx Shiver xx Yellow xx Trouble xx Don't Panic xx In My Place xx The Scientist xx God Put a Smile Upon Your Face xx Speed of Sound xx Fix You xx Talk xx The Hardest Part xx Lost! xx Lovers In Japan ALBUMS (this is optional so don't worry if you haven't listened to them) xx Parachutes xx A Rush of Blood to the Head xx X&Y xx Viva La Vida or Death & All His Friends xx Mylo Xyloto You may award one 11 to either section. I have no limit otherwise, but try not to go too crazy although I am aware that is immensely hard looking at that list of singles. No minus marks please as they are far above that, you can give 00's, but if you seem to be giving out multiple numbers of these, I'd imagine you shouldn't really be doing this. Feel free to use ?? if you're not aware of the song, I will attach the links to jog your memory. If that's all cool, then send your rates to me (Chez Wombat) by the 9th/10th June and I'll assess how many rates I have. I'm hoping for around 6-10, that would be enough. PLEASE DON'T POST YOUR RATE IN THE THREAD, ONLY PM ME IT. COMMENCE, because you'd want to be a comma and not a full stop right? :o Edited June 9, 201312 yr by Chez Wombat
May 28, 201312 yr OH MY GOD. I will start rating now. Needless to say, I think they're the best band of all time! :w00t:
May 28, 201312 yr Not all the album tracks? I will be doing this regardless, don't worry. Their back catalogue gets stronger every time I listen to it.
May 28, 201312 yr Hooray, I thought I was the only Coldplay lover! Everyone I know hates them, boooooo! They are all wrong. will have a go later in the week:)
May 28, 201312 yr Author NO GRIFF, PM ME YOUR VOTES. Not that it MATTERS exactly, but still. Not all the album tracks? I will be doing this regardless, don't worry. Their back catalogue gets stronger every time I listen to it. Nah, the other rates in this forum only really did the singles, so I did too. Plus, I feel its much more 'definitive' to just do the singles with some well known albums tracks to fill. I always find those 'ultimate' rates that include EVERY single track they've ever done including forgotten album tracks a bit daunting, I definitely couldn't do any of them even if I did listen to the albums, I want this to appeal to 'casual' fans as well. I can't think how I'm gonna do this, so many 11/10 tracks :( Edited May 28, 201312 yr by Chez Wombat
May 28, 201312 yr Author GUYS, PM (PERSONALLY MESSAGE) ME YOUR VOTES, DON'T POST THEM IN THE THREAD. This is a secretive thing right here.
May 28, 201312 yr Oh, I was meant to PM my rate? Oh bollocks. Could it stay here? EDIT: Just read your post, yes sir. Edited May 28, 201312 yr by Griff
May 28, 201312 yr Was Poitiik a single? edit - I see that you're including album tracks. Edited May 28, 201312 yr by AnthonyT
May 28, 201312 yr Not all the album tracks? I will be doing this regardless, don't worry. Their back catalogue gets stronger every time I listen to it. Is there a history of doing all the album tracks in a rate?
May 28, 201312 yr Author Was Politik a single? Not officially no, but I think even as an album track, its quite well known so I thought it sufficient to include it. I think its one of the most performed tracks as well. Thanks to the three of you who've sent so far! Edited May 28, 201312 yr by Chez Wombat
May 28, 201312 yr There are in the other ones that have been done around the forum! @Tony I'd have probably given low/middling marks to most of them anyway but there are a couple obsure ones that I do love. This just means my marks are probably going to be less spread as most of those are really good tracks. And to be honest C.W, I agree on principle about the rates with all the album tracks being daunting, just not when I actually own the albums.
May 28, 201312 yr Oh, ok. I'd find rating the album tracks of even my favourite artists a bit laborious because they have so many albums. - voted! I gave two tens along with an 11. Lowest I gave was a 5 (lots of them  ) Edited May 28, 201312 yr by AnthonyT
May 28, 201312 yr Me too, I hate rating albums and it's such an effort when you don't know the songs!
May 28, 201312 yr There is only one proper album track here (Politik, which is a cracker!). Don't Panic was kind of 'released' (plus was on a Now album and has a video), God Put A Smile On Your Face was released elsewhere and can be got on import, The Hardest Part, Lovers Of Japan and Hurts Like Heaven were also just about released as singles (and sent to radio) but didn't make any impact on the charts. I have voted :D
May 28, 201312 yr Politik is slightly overrated. I mean, it's alright, but it's not what I personally want from Coldplay.

I mean, it's alright, but it's not what I personally want from Coldplay. I wouldn't really say its overrated at all, I'm not sure its that well known at all outside of their fanbase! I think it was promoted as a single at one point.
May 28, 201312 yr Author What about Strawberry Swing? I think it was promoted as a single at one point. Yeah it was, in other territories. I'm not sure why I overlooked that, it could've rounded up to a nice 25 as well. I guess I thought there was enough tracks from VLV here already. Ah well, what's done is done.

Ah well, what's done is done. Well, I gave it a mark, so maybe you could include that! :kink: And at least even numbers are better than odd numbers. :magic:
