Probably just my naivety but i thought she'd be heading for #1 this week until I saw Kendrick was out! Hadn't even considered the possibility of not making the top 5...yes, there's been no hit single but I thought there was a lot of buzz around her return! Still, top 10 is okay I guess.

I haven't given the album much of a listen through yet (although I'm happy it's a digipak not a jewel case ) but I'm a Ruin is my clear favourite so far, along with Froot of course.

Same here! I was convinced she was going to be #1 and it was just a question of whether she'll be able to outsell Electra Heart's first week or not. Ah well, she's safe from being dropped and her worldwide sales - particularly the US - more than make up for it.

Solitaire has the most heavenly chorus. If you close your eyes it's like being lifted skyward by an angel with very soft skin.

I'm not cursed. I was just covered in dirt.

FYI to anybody who ordered the HORRIBLY DELAYED Vinyl Box (NOW MAY). :nocheer:

Warner emailed Apparently if you download the audio rip they sent it counts as the sale of the box set early, so check your emails and press download if you got the Vinyl! :teresa:

I've put my hand in to do a Froot rate over the next couple of weeks. SAVAGES FTW.

Meh, Savages is good but not special. She can do special a lot more than her supposed peers.

Froot and Better than That are really coming up strong now. The disco guitars on Froot really work.

Froot charted at #4 in Ireland. Decent :)

That's her 3rd top 10 and 2nd top 5 album there.

I think this has to be my fave Marina album to date. My fave tracks are still from the previous two albums, however overall, I enjoy listening to this album the most from start to finish.

I bought a copy from HMV on Monday, but had a nosey at the CD section in a large Sainsbury's supermarket today and noticed they weren't even stocking it - why?

From Best To Worst Favourite FROOT Tracks

01. Gold 11/10 (BEST TRACK I KNOW NO ONE FEELS LIKE IT IS BUT IT TAKES ME SOMEWHERE THE OTHER TRACKS DON'T AND MARINA MADE A GREAT SONG OUT OF A MESSY SITUATION AND FOR THAT I ADMIRE HER, PLUS IT'S CATCHY AND CELESTICAL I can see why it wasn't a single but that doesn't mean it isn't a great album track)

02. Solitaire 10/10 (feels like the love child of Teen Idle and Immortal, it's just so heavenly I can't)

03. Happy 10/10 (didn't think it was that spectacular at first but after months of the track now I love it so much, it builds so well and the message is so good)

04. Can't Pin Me Down 9/10 (time to back off motherf***er is my favourite line from the album and I adore the song, I really do)

05. I'm A Ruin 9/10 (WOW WOW WOW the yeah yeaah yeahhhs are her best hook since teen idle's "super super super super...")

06. Savages 8/10 (Probably one of the strongest tracks lyrically and melody-wise and as much as I love it, it still feels like there's something missing)

07. Blue 8/10 (Amazing at first listen but the shines dimmed since, still great just not amazing anymore)

08. Immortal 7/10 (Similar to Forget, hated it at first but the lyrics are really powerful and it's such a grower, it has the same affect as Gold to me, it's not a banger, but it's euphoric)

09. Forget 6/10 (loved it at first, then hated it and now I'm starting to like it with the video. The bridge is heavenly)

10. Froot 6/10 (I don't dislike the track, I'm just kind of over it)

11. Weeds 5/10 (way better than better than that...ironically and it's growing on me so slowly but it's not that good)

12. Better Than That 2/10 (I seriously don't know what's likeable about this track. Fans seem to love it but as much as I try it's just so unlikeable and feels like it doesn't belong on the album to me)

Overall the albums probably just as or slightly more addictive than Electra Heart but it doesn't beat The Family Jewels for me. Strong album though and I hope it makes top 5/10 on Sunday! Bought my copy on Monday for those first day sales!

Time for a re-rate

Happy - 8 - perhaps this might have worked as a final track. It sounds so mature and measured.

Froot - 9 - several great parts to this song. Strong chorus and I love the disco guitars. This would suit Sophie Ellis Bextor with a bit of editing.

I'm a Ruin - 10 - not an 11 any more. It's still the best thing on the album and better than anything on Electra Heart, in my opinion.

Blue - 8 - love the intro, multiple parts to this too. She manages to keep her songs on the move.

Forget - 6 - she's used several of these hooks before and I dont find myself enjoying this - nice middle 8 though which brings it to a 6.

Gold - 6 - the backing vocals in this bring it up a notch. I dont like the chorus at all.

Can't Pin Me Down - 7 - I like the bass guitar in the chorus, which is strong. The verses are weak, tough.

Solitaire - 7 - she really lets this breath, there's plenty of space in it. The three syllables she forces into "di-a-mond" was a bad decision. Beautiful, slightly ethereal chorus.

Better than That - 8 - she really makes you wait for the pay-off of the chorus but the build is good. Nice bass guitar again in the chorus.

Weeds - 6.5 - Nice warm sound to the verse but something is missing. Guitar solo! Unexpected. It takes a while to get used to.

Savages - 8 - Sorta takes the place of Oh No! on this album. Single-worthy, near the end of the album.

Immortal - 6 - The is the song I've listened to least. It may improve with more airings. I think it will.

7.5/10 overall

Weeds is amazing and should be a single. JUST SAYING.

You're probably alone on that.

I don't think there will be any singles but if there were I'd say;

Blue, Savages, I'm a Ruin would sound best on the radio - they aren't necessarily my favourites.

I think I agree with Joseph in that Happy isn't great as an opener. I'd have switched it with Froot.

Am I the only one that prefers Happy over anything else on the album? :(

Well, it is pretty much perfect, so I don't see why you wouldn't. I prefer Immortal, though Happy comes close.

10.0 | I'm A Ruin

09.5 | Blue

09.5 | Forget

08.0 | Gold

Obviously more familiar with the Froots of the Month so the others will grow.

This improved a lot on second listen through just now... I was really underwhelmed earlier in the week with it as everything felt like retreads of former glories. Actually, the title track aside, most of it is retreading old ground but I guess most artists do that after a while. Initial highs are Happy, I'm a Ruin, Blue, Forget and Better Than That.
