Any news on dates?

I've decided Gold has the best second verse on the album. The "Fortune's running out of my veins" bit is sensational.

A bit late but I'm having a hard time coming around to this album :(

Her voice is great. It sounds good on its first few listens, just the fact of hearing her voice again is something, but then later in cohesion, I found that many of the tracks follow very similar chorus formulas of predictable choruses and melodies, her lyrics seem rather forced and unnatural. It's just rather lacklustre in comparison to her previous albums, and I f***ing love Marina so hopefully I'll dig out some love for this

'I'm a Ruin', 'Solitaire' and the title track are as flawless as ever tho

I can understand that Kath. It's full of Marina's much used vocal phrasing which is so distinctive that some of it comes across as recycling and retreading old ground. I hope she goes in the direction of Solitaire for the next album.

I do hope you can find love for FROOT, Kath.

I don't follow the artists I stan for into battle blindly, I'll be the first to admit that a lot of Electra Heart was off and some of the Family Jewels too. But I really feel as though lyrically Marina is on top form, and I would say that while there are no tracks as big as Radioactive, Oh No, Hollywood etc, this is her most consistent and cohesive effort, which is why for me, it's her best album, overall - and the critics seem to be finding it her most comparable work, too.

So, is "Gold" still getting Froot treatment?

I agree with most of what you said but there are too many highs on The Family Jewels for Froot to compete with it. It is her most consistent album but not her best. That may change with time.

My rate of the albums

:o

I find this really irritating. No more than a 4/10 on a good day.

Really?! I loved the live performance of it when I saw her in 2010 and was gutted when I didn't hear it on the last tour! :(

The Electra Heart hate is ridiculous. I love every song except Starring Role and Homewrecker (which are not even bad).

FROOT is just not groundbreaking for Marina, she's done this sound already, these themes and lyrics already.

What made Electra Heart so exciting was its departure in style, sound and concept which obviously polarized listeners and critics, but what inevitably put her on the map as an artist, garnered her a flock of new fans and saw her being taken seriously. Each song was so different and unique and at the same time fell right into place with the era's image and album's concept.

This album is just inconsistent and its themes tacky and recycled, she is capable of so much better. The fact critics are raving over this doesn't say much imo because Marina has essentially played it safe

Actually when I think about it, Electra Heart is pretty solid aside from 'Valley Of The Dolls' and 'Lonely Hearts Club'. There is a bit of filler but it's a good album all in all.

It's pretty much pop at its best, but I am glad she didn't just continue in that direction and did something different this time. It's what makes her interesting and this album feels more natural.

Electro Heart is in my top 10 albums ever, it's incredible. The only track I'm not too keen on is Valley Of The Dolls - Bubblegum Bitch, Primadonna, Lies, Teen Idle, Hypocrates, Radioactive and especially Fear & Loathing are all easy 10s.

I am not sure where the 'Electra Heart' disdain comes from either. It's solid, if sometimes ZANY pop and far more experimental and enjoyable a listen than 'FROOT'. The ballads ('Lies') were better than all the ballads on this, and as a whole album, the concept was mostly well executed. This is, as Kath says, very safe which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it doesn't excite me at all or make me want to return to it too much. I have struggled to get passionately behind this era mostly because of it's safeness.

A few nice songs/moments dotted around, but that is all.
