June 12, 201312 yr Lost! top 10 YAY. Narrowly missed out on my 11 points <3 Shocked at Fix You/Yellow missing the top 10 - thought theyd be challenging for the top spot out of sheer relentless exposure (that probably worked against them then actually)
June 12, 201312 yr Can't stand Fix U, such a borefest! In the other hand Lost! is absolutely amazing.

Speed of Sound (X&Y) Average: 7.727 Highest Rate: 11 (Mattias) Lowest Rate: 3 (Robadonna, ▲▲▲) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/bb/Coldplay_speedofsound.png/220px-Coldplay_speedofsound.png "Speed of Sound" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their third album, X&Y. Built around a piano riff, the song builds into a huge, synthesiser-heavy chorus. It was released on 23 May 2005 by Parlophone Records as the lead single from the album. Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin admitted that the song was developed after the band had listened to English art rock singer Kate Bush. The song's drumbeat is similar to Bush's 1985 song "Running Up that Hill". Upon the song's release, it charted in the UK Singles Chart in the number two position. In the United States, it reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100, their first top ten hit in the country, and their most successful song until Viva La Vida reached number one in 2008. "Speed of Sound" was recognised Song of the Year by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and it was nominated twice at the 48th Grammy Awards. The song won a Brit Award in the category for Best British Single in 2006. The track's music video was nominated for four MTV Video Music Awards. "Speed of Sound" was also the billionth song downloaded from the iTunes Store. (PO: I'm surprised this was top 10, its gotten a bit lost in time as far as their singles go and its unfortunately not aged quite as well as some others. I do love this, but its the sort of song that makes me understand how some don't like them so much - the lyrics feel a bit too far fetched and meaningless and the piano melody is almost exactly the same as that of Clocks. It also feels like its been written to be performed at the stadium rather than feel personal in any way. I'm aware a lot of my criticisms could be directed back at Fix You, but I do feel that there is, however overplayed its become, some genuine emotion present there, which this song seems to lack. This seems a strikingly harsh review, and its misleading, I like the song a lot, but it just has visible flaws which highlight some of the flaws of the album as a whole. So I am glad in general it didn't get to number 1 even if it was at the expense of Crazy Frog as it wouldn't really have been worthy of that accolade, particularly considering what they had to come.)
June 12, 201312 yr Author Sorry this is taking so long, I'll try and speed it up a bit. 08. Violet Hill (Viva La Vida...) Average: 7.795 Highest Rate: 10 (Iz, Nick F1, Rabbit Heart, ▲▲▲) Lowest Rate: 4 (Grebo) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/27/Violethillcover.jpg/220px-Violethillcover.jpg "Violet Hill" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008). Built around a repeating guitar sound, it utilises a marching tempo, supported by the pianos and rhythms that accompany the song's lyrics. The song was initially made available as a free download on the band's website and was downloaded more than two million times. Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin revealed that the song had been in development, though, the band had not completed the song, as the first line and first little melody had been written.[clarification needed] "Violet Hill" is the first anti-war protest song from the group.[1] The single was received with positive reviews. The track was released worldwide as the lead single from Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, reaching number nine on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart and number eight on the UK Singles Chart. It was featured as a downloadable song for the 2007 music video game, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, as well as being featured in Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits. The song was nominated at the Q awards in the category for Best Track and received two Grammy Award nominations for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group. The music video for "Violet Hill" was nominated for Best Special Effects at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. The single has been widely sampled, with different covers and sounds. (PO: Another surprise for the top 10, I tired of this rather quickly, its an interesting one though, it definitely set us up for the experimental sound of the album, although its unfortunately been a bit shadowed of the song that proceeded it) 07. Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall (Mylo Xyloto) Average: 7.863 Highest Rate: 10 (Wall, RabbitFurCoat, Jester, Chez Wombat, Bré, LA SOMBRA, HausofYeezus) Lowest Rate: 2 (richie) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e1/Coldplay_-_Every_Teardrop_Is_a_Waterfall.jpg/220px-Coldplay_-_Every_Teardrop_Is_a_Waterfall.jpg "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" (commonly abbreviated as ETIAW[1] ) is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay. The lead single from their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, it was released on 3 June 2011, as a digital download except in the United Kingdom where it was released 2 days later. The song was nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. It contains elements of the 1976 song "I Go to Rio" written by Peter Allen and Adrienne Anderson. Debuting at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, the song sold 85,000 copies in its first week, before climbing to its peak of number 14.[5] It peaked at number 6 on the UK Singles Chart. The song made its radio debut on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Absolute Radio, and Xfm. Coldplay first performed it live on June 4 at the Rock am Ring and Rock im Park festival in Nürnberg, Germany. It was also played live at the Steve Jobs memorial/celebration-of-life event at Apple headquarters on 19 October 2011 in Cupertino, California, and at the opening of the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 6 November 2011. The song was used as the theme for the live-action film adaptation of Chūya Koyama's Uchū Kyōdai (Space Brothers) manga. (PO: Could say its been a bit overshadowed by its predecessor, but I love them both in different ways - this manages to capture what the likes of Yellow & In My Place did so well in being an understated but upbeat singalong anthem, but actually still sounding rather fresh.)
June 12, 201312 yr Author 06. In My Place (A Rush of Blood...) Average: 7.886 Highest Rate: 11 (AnthonyT) Lowest Rate: 4 (Dandy*) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a8/In_My_Place.jpg/220px-In_My_Place.jpg "In My Place" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay. The song was written collaboratively by all the band members for their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. The track is built around thumping drums, chiming guitars and a chorus. It was released on 5 August 2002 as the lead single from A Rush of Blood to the Head and reached number two on the UK Singles Charts. The song reached number seventeen on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks. "In My Place" was well received by critics. The song was complimented for its music and profound lyrics. "In My Place" won the award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal at the 45th Grammy Awards. The music video was nominated for two MuchMusic Video Awards in 2003 in the categories of Best international video–group and People's Choice: Favorite international group. (PO: This was actually leading the Rush singles at first, but fell to the bottom in the end. For me, it fades in comparison to the two songs that came after it but its a testement to how high quality the Rush singles were - This is still excellent with soaring vocals, a wonderful guitar and a brilliant build up) 05. Paradise (Mylo Xyloto) Average: 8.068 Highest Rate: 11 (Griff, Jester) Lowest Rate: 0 (Grebo) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/22/Coldplay_-_Paradise.JPG/220px-Coldplay_-_Paradise.JPG "Paradise" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay. The song was released on 12 September 2011 as the second single from their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto. The song received its radio debut at 7:50 a.m. on The Chris Moyles Show (BBC Radio 1) on 12 September 2011. According to Coldplay's official website, the single was not initially chart eligible in the United Kingdom, because it was available on iTunes as an "instant grat" (immediate download) when pre-ordering the album. Following the release of the album on 30 October 2011, the song became chart eligible in the UK and entered the UK Singles Chart at number 14, before taking the number 1 spot on its tenth week, becoming the band's second number-one single after "Viva la Vida" in 2008. The song was met with positive reviews, and was the best selling rock song of 2011 in the United Kingdom, selling 410,000 copies. On 30 November, the song was nominated for a Grammy Award, in the category Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. On 12 February 2012, Coldplay performed "Paradise" live at the Grammys, along with "Princess of China". At the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards on 6 September, the song won the award for Best Rock Video. Following the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs on CBC, the song was featured in a yearly finale montage on CBC recapping the Stanley Cup Playoffs as well as British and American television advertisements and trailers for the Academy Award winning film Life of Pi which was nominated for 11 Academy Awards. (PO: An appropriate position for this, its a little recent for it to be much higher. It does the opposite to what Every Teardrop does and tackles another common 'formula' for Coldplay, the stadium anthem, there's everything present here - swirling guitars, a chorus that thrusts itself at you right from the start and trademark 'OHH OHH OHH' chants. But it still manages to sound fresh and, crucially, possesses emotion. Its sales and huge chart success I think proves that whatever you think of them, Coldplay can still make a stadium anthem like no other.)
June 12, 201312 yr Fix You not in the top 10 WHAT! Disgusting. At least Violet Hill and Lost! managed to make it in. If the dull The Scientist wins over Viva La Vida.. I think it's just those two and Clocks and Talk (!) left. Talk will be 4th for certain.
June 12, 201312 yr Glad Fix You isn't top 10 actually - I find it good but massively over-rated. This is what I thought until I listened to it while I was sad. I then realised that it was one of the best songs I'd ever heard.
June 12, 201312 yr Author 04. Clocks (A Rush of Blood...) Average: 8.090 Highest rate: 10 (Griff, Jester, Chez Wombat, Bré, THEO) Lowest rate: 5 (AnthonyT, richie) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/96/Clocks_single.jpg/220px-Clocks_single.jpg A clock is an instrument used to indicate, keep, and co-ordinate time. The word clock is derived ultimately (via Dutch, Northern French, and Medieval Latin) from the Celtic words clagan and clocca meaning "bell". A silent instrument missing such a mechanism has traditionally been known as a timepiece. In general usage today a "clock" refers to any device for measuring and displaying the time. Watches and other timepieces that can be carried on one's person are often distinguished from clocks. lol "Clocks" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. Built around a piano riff, the song features cryptic lyrics of contrast and urgency themes. Several remixes of the track exist and its riff has been widely sampled. "Clocks" debuted to critical and commercial success, with critics mainly commenting on the song's piano melody. It was released in the United Kingdom as the third single from A Rush of Blood to the Head, where it reached number nine in the UK Singles Chart. It was released in the United States as the album's second single and reached number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Clocks" won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year. (PO: A classic and deservedly so. That ever so simple yet brilliant piano melody is so effective and builds a chilling, sad atmosphere that pulls you in the whole way through) 03. Viva La Vida (I wonder what album this is from?) Average: 8.431 Highest Rate: 11 (Rabbit Heart, Bré, Iz) Lowest Rate: 2 (Atonement, richie) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/84/Coldplay_-_Viva_la_Vida.jpg/220px-Coldplay_-_Viva_la_Vida.jpg "Viva la Vida" (/ˈviːvə lə ˈviːdə/; Spanish: [ˈbiβa la ˈβiða]) is a song by the British alternative rock band Coldplay. It was written by all members of the band for their fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), and was released as the second single from the album. On the album, this song segues directly into the next track, "Violet Hill". Viva la Vida can have two meanings in Spanish, either "Long Live Life" or "Live Life". The lyrics to the song contain historical and Christian references, and the track is built around a repeating string section in unison with a digital processed piano with a percussion background. The song was released on 13 June 2008 as the album's second single, debuting to critical acclaim and commercial success. "Viva la Vida" reached the top spot of the UK Singles Chart and Billboard Hot 100, becoming the band's first number-one single in both the US and UK. The song won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year at the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009. The song became the sixth song in digital history to reach the 4 million mark in paid downloads. It has sold 5.2 million copies in the United States by November 2011, and over 6.4 million copies worldwide by 2012. (PO: I and probably many of you expected this to walk it, but its only third in the end. By far one of their most well known songs even after just five years, of all the experimental 'sounds' on the album, this was the one that worked the best. It wasn't too loud and boisterous but did not sound typical of Coldplay at all, ditching swirling guitars for frantic violins, it converted many that weren't fans prior. I wouldn't say its my favourite, but its a great, great song and very much worthy of the acclaim.) Edited June 12, 201312 yr by Chez Wombat
June 12, 201312 yr VLV was just edged out by Paradise for me. Just. (Trouble third). Shocked to see The Scientist and Talk beating the likes of VLV and Clocks! A not bad winner either way really but not at all predictable :o
June 12, 201312 yr In My Place is so wonderful. Indeed. It was the first Coldplay song I ever heard and it's utterly beautiful.
