12. Burning Up

Total: 127.5 pts. Average: 7.97 pts.

Highest Rate: 10 (Johnkm, mr. everything, MTV79, Luciano) Lowest Rate: 05 (Gezza)

I quite like the Re-invention Tour version of this; I always thought 'Burning Up' was punk-y, especially with Madonna's image in the official video. The original recording was well received here, more high scores than I imagined. Definitely a highlight on Madonna though, shame it did practically nothing chart-wise.

11. Material Girl

Just missing out on the Top 10 due to having less 10s, the title of this song has been adopted as Madonna's nickname which has thus made 'Material Girl' one of her signature tracks. I was surprised to learn that this, and the standard version of Like a Virgin, was produced by Nile Rodgers, best known for being in the band Chic and his involvement on Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' (what a contrast! :o).

10. Borderline

Total: 129.5 pts. Average: 8.09 pts.

Highest Rate: 10 (Johnkm, CallumTheSats4, randomfurlong, vibe) Lowest Rate: 06 (MTV79, O Mie d'Applause, THEO.)

Making the Top 10 due to two more 10s (would have preferred 'Material Girl' to have made it mind), 'Borderline' was perhaps surprisingly to some only a #56 smash in the UK until its re-release boosted it to #2. It's a decent song but not one I'm too fussed on, but it seems this is a fan favourite in general.

Despite this being one of Madonna's best sellers, I'm surprised this has made the Top 10; I'd have thought some people would find the vocals irritating or the song to cheesy and hate it, but with a lowest score of 7, it appears not! I always remember "LYK A WERGAN" from Bridget Jones when I hear this.

Burning up surprisingly performed very well!

Pleased borderline made the top 10 :)

08. Lucky Star

Total: 132 pts. Average: 8.25 pts.

In my opinion, this is the least deserving song to be Top 10 that is in it. I like it but there's so many better songs and it's very overrated. Still, with no terrible ratings and four 10s, it's what you've voted as your 8th favourite Madonna 80s single.

07. Holiday

Total: 132.5 pts. Average: 8.28 pts.

Highest Rate: 10 (SweetCandy) Lowest Rate: 03 (Gezza)

Despite a 10 and eight 9s, the low score of 3 Gezza gave this Madonna classic shows how much it affects the average. It's probably not in my personal Top 10 Madonna 80s tracks but it's definitely worthy of being so here as it's one of the biggest party tunes around.

06. Open Your Heart

Total: 133.5 pts. Average: 8.34 pts.

Highest Rate: 11 (HausofKubrick) Lowest Rate: 03 (O Mie d'Applause)

First song that I'm seriously happy about being in the Top 10! That intro is fantastic, always gets me excited for the song. All the True Blue singles are excellent; this is probably second to 'Papa Don't Preach' for me.

05. Express Yourself

Total: 134.5 pts. Average: 8.41 pts.

Highest Rate: 10 (Johnkm, THEO.) Lowest Rate: 04 (O Mie d'Applause)

At #5 is 'Born This Way''Express Yourself' which gave us a video which cost $5m ($9m today) making it the third most expensive music video. It also gave inspiration for the video for Christina Aguilera's 'Not Myself Tonight' (a much better song, may I add. :kink:).

Liam Lucky Star is a classic!!. Not really too fussed over Express Yourself I usually skip that one lol.
Express yourself is way to high !!!

Holiday should be top 5

Gezza ruined this :(

It's the intro of 'Lucky Star' that really makes it for me. Surely the best beginning to a discography EVER.

Never really been one for 'Express Yourself' but YES YES YES at 'Open Your Heart'. Should be higher tbqfh.

04. Papa Don't Preach

Total: 146 pts. Average: 9.125 pts.

Highest Rate: 10 (Nick F1, Gezza, liamk97, MTV79, randomfurlong, THEO.) Lowest Rate: 07 (Luciano)

This has the same total as #3 so with a lower higher score, unfortunately 'Papa Don't Preach' is placed lower than 'Into the Groove'. I love both songs a lot and they are certainly Top 5 worthy but I find the this the better song. When I listen to it, it feels like Madonna has a personal connection to this song but considering her first child was over 10 years later, it would seem not.

03. Into the Groove

Total: 146 pts. Average: 9.125 pts.

Highest Rate: 11 (SweetCandy) Lowest Rate: 06 (Johnkm)

'Into the Groove' is the #1 best seller out of Madonna's discography in the UK, but it misses out on the #1 in this countdown. Such an energetic and fun party song, although I must admit it's surprising this is her best seller when songs such as 'Like a Virgin, 'Vogue', 'Like a Prayer' and 'Hung Up' seem far more recognisable.

Less than 3 points separate the Top 2, which track will crowned Buzzjack's Favourite Madonna 80s Single: 'La Isla Bonita' or 'Like a Prayer'?

Holiday should be top 5

Gezza ruined this :(

No it's quite dull really in the greatness of the Madonna Cannon- sorry :(

Didn't expect La Isla Bonita to do this well, even though I adore it! Pretty sure Like a Prayer has this locked up and rightfully so

U go to a Madonna gig when the intro to holiday arrives the crowd go insane , you may not like it but its certainly not dull! It's completely the opposite !!!

I won't complain about the top 5 , holiday should be at 5 tho ideally :)

It's nice to see the top 3 all from different albums

Oh I don't argue with you, just my opinion- I think I may have heard it too many times over the years?!

02. La Isla Bonita

Total: 149 pts. Average: 9.31 pts.

Highest Rate: 11 (Simon., O Mie d'Applause) Lowest Rate: 05 (MTV79)

Last single from True Blue, 'La Isla Bonita' is probably the most popular day-time track in Ibiza (was seemingly every other song when I went! :P). Ignoring the underserved 5 it received, the lowest score for this was an 8 and even then there was only one of them. Well I say "undeserved", but I actually didn't like this too much until I heard it a lot last year.

01. Like a Prayer

http://i42.tinypic.com/2yxlnok.jpg

Total: 151.5 pts. Average: 9.47 pts.

Highest Rate: 11 (THEO.) Lowest Rate: 07 (Luciano)

I think I speak on behalf of everyone when I say this winner was a no brainer! Considered by most her signature track, 'Like a Prayer' received surprisingly only one 11, but thanks to the massive ten 10s it received, this kept its average to just under 9.5 despite the couple of 7s and 8s. Lots of controversy surrounded this but no-one can deny that this is considered one of Madonna's best and one of the greatest songs ever!

Thanks to everyone who took part in the voting and commenting in the results, of course none of this would have been possible without you! :D 90s results coming soon..!

Brilliant top 2 and a very deserving winner. Her definitive 80's track (even if I did always think it was a 90's one oops). And the video is one of her best too <3

Great thread Liam :)
