but didn't Whitney have big albums in the 80's as well?

Edited by Matty.

this subject is so confusing :(

ok, lets add whitney to the list

so we have

Nana: 300 million

Madonna: 250 million

Whitney: 230 Million

Celine: 185 Million

Mariah: 170 Million

we also have the un named asian woman, Barabara streisand but I dont know how much she has sold, but this should probably be the top 7?

She has sold over 100 million apperently ^_^

Yes Whitney was big in the 80's, Mariah didn't come out until 1990. :P

Yeah, i read somewhere that she was even bigger than Madge in the 80's

Possible. I recall when her last album was released it being mentioned several times that she had sold 200 million albums. Did'nt mention singles. <_<

ive found another thing to confuse us

Universal Music France universalmusic.fr claims that Nana sold more than 300 million discs worldwide.

Universal Music Germany universal-music.de claims that she sold more than 200 million discs.

so in theory, depending on how much she sold in the 80's Whitney could have sold more than mariah.

Kelly, just wondering, do you have any idea how much Mariah sold in the 90's?

145m I think was the estimate used by critics for the 90's for Mariah.

She's only released 3 studio albums since then, and the GH of course, and The Remixes. -_-

It says in the Guinness World record book that Whitney has sold over 145 million ALBUMS. Does'nt mention singles

Again this subject? :P

Albums & singles combined: Madonna

Albums only: Celine

And Whitney's definately below Mariah..Mariah is still going strong whereas Whitney hasn't had a hit album in quite a while..

Btw, why are we relying on Wikipedia so much? Information there could be so wrong. For example: in a few mins I could easily post there that Lily Allen has over 100 million albums sold. So is it reliable? Nope.

Exactly, that's what I mean whoever said that Madonna has sold 250m+ is obviously a fan trying to exaggerate sales. -_-

Nana Miskouri has only sold c. 30millions album worldwide FACT.

You should not rely on Wikipedia too much.

MTV said Mariah carey was number one i remember that like late last year. And Britney was like number 14 :cheer:

It was the top women btw :D

how come on tv they said she had sold 300?

They always exaggerate [in this case a lot] on TV..

2 very different persona's.

Madonna is regarded as the Queen of Pop because she's been around longer and she's always done poppy music and because she's outlasted many, many artists.

Mariah Carey is the VOICE, different from Madonna because she has a signifficantly better voice than Madonna, but Madonna can dance better than Mariah.

And no it's not because of sales. ^_^

Thats very true!! Madonnas such a fab dancer :cheer:

AND who is this nanna girl? Never heard of her and shes the best in the world...

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/content_pages/record.asp? - the official guiness world records..

id have to agree with madge she's been around alot longer then mariah so she'd have a much better chance of having sold alot more albums
on the guiness site, it says Madonna has only sold 120 million :o
