November 26, 201311 yr Author Spurs are further proof that Liverpool were right to keep hold of Suarez in the Summer I don't think any of their signings were poor and the majority are likely to come good, but there's nothing like having a world class player to win you games as Bale did week after week
November 26, 201311 yr Conceding hasn't been a major issue for you because AVB sets his team up to be defensively solid. Must surely be a worry that if you go a goal or two down though, the system is not flexible enough to create goals. AVB doesn't seem to be of the mindset to change it up much either. City played really well on Sunday, and I don't think the early goal helped matters, but City exploited all the holes in your system easily. Soldado is not set up to be THAT striker in the system you play - so it begs the question, why did your scouting team buy him? It's shortsighted. Either you change the system to fit the players you buy, or you buy players to fit the system. Baffling either way mate. Another part of the problem is that you've so many new players playing too that weren't playing with the first team last season. You have a DOF set-up don't you now? Baldini is the one pulling the strings, not AVB. You seem to have done what Liverpool did with their summer of investment, wasted a ton of money. Lamela isn't up to the pace of the Premier League yet. Two big money strikers, and one of them needed to hit the ground up and running, but it hasn't happened. The lad is obviously a quality player, and I think he's someone that will come good once he's settled to the pace, and perhaps when there's not as much pressure on him. You lack creativity massively, and you did last season too. Infact you've never really replaced Modric or Van Der Vaart. You've some of the players to do it though, but it does look as if the system/manager is the elephant in the room. Someone on another forum yesterday raised the point that AVB has never played professional football, of course having played doesn't make someone a good manager as we have seen from Souness/Roy Keane/Tony Adams/Mark Hughes etc, but i think it might be something that is holding him back in the sense he has no Plan B as has never kicked a ball in a professional game. I think his days are numbered here, maybe he will survive the season but beyond that cant see him being here next year, apparently we are already sounding out Joachim Loew for taking over after the world cup Lamela is being played out of position which is bizarre from AVB, very talented player but he is being played on the opposite side to where he was in Italy With Soldado his problem is 2 things, firstly the fact that Lennon and Townsend couldn't cross a ball if their life depended on it which blunts Soldado's natural game of being a poacher in the box, the ball is not getting in the box, the other issue for him is lack of pace, this is shown in the fact he has little or no movement off the ball So what AVB needs to do is play to Soldado's strengths and adjust tactics accordingly, but he is too set in his ways and has no Plan B

The biggest offer was £40,000,001 which is probably not even half of what he is worth Whereas £86m for Bale was stark raving bonkers, a £50m player who had a stellar season, impossible to turn down

Things can't always go right for you. Last year you had Bale. He was your Plan B. This year you've not got that. This is a massive test for AVB now. He's losing the support of the fans. That's what I said about Soldado earlier. Your system is not set up to suit Soldado. So either you get rid of the player, or change the system. It's very similar circumstances to Liverpool with Carroll. Big name player, but he just couldn't score regularly. He wasn't a talented enough striker to lead the line in a possession/shot percentage game, not mobile enough. He'd be waiting for crosses that wouldn't come, or would just genuinely find himself out of position. Why buy a poacher type striker for your system? It doesn't make any sense. He's easy for defenders to mark against because he doesn't have any stand out qualities that are at an exceptional level. Big game at the weekend for you against Man United.

Yeah i don't think he is the man to take us forward, might scrape 4th or 5th this year but has reached a glass ceiling in terms of his level, we need a manager with a tactical brain and someone who doesn't play such dull football.

You need a philosophy or a goal. I don't think your entire structure is good enough, with Baldini. Currently I can't see you any higher than 6th this season. Paulinho's been awful so far, yet every week he gets in the team.

Look at Liverpool when they signed all those players in 2011, Comolli got the chop before Kenny because he was ultimately the one making the decisions about which players to go for. You didn't strengthen the left back in the summer, or buy the other striker that you needed. Unfortunately it is the bottom of the food chain that goes before the top. Surely in your structure the technical director determines the style of play as well? All the coach does it pick the team, and coach them.

Kinda but Sherwood is in charge of youth team, academy and reserves, he acts as a consultant to AVB and makes suggestions but AVB has full autonomy on first team affairs and tactics
November 27, 201311 yr So close to a clean sheet at Brunton Park yesterday evening, how frustrating. Our defensive woes at home continue, a clean sheet at home is very rare these days.
December 3, 201311 yr Kinda but Sherwood is in charge of youth team, academy and reserves, he acts as a consultant to AVB and makes suggestions but AVB has full autonomy on first team affairs and tactics Surely it's obvious. Every Tottenham player should start a business. That should solve everything.
December 3, 201311 yr I hope the Bristol City fan that posts on here is alright! I haven't seen him on here for a while. Steve Cotterill is a very underwhelming appointment indeed. Having said that, he could be the man to get us out of this mess, in the short term at least. The football will probably be dire, but we need to learn how to win ugly and achieve those scrappy 1-0 wins, which we failed to do under SOD. Edited December 4, 201311 yr by OutstandingMike

The football will probably be dire, but we need to learn how to win ugly and achieve those scrappy 1-0 wins, which we failed to do under SOD. As a Forest fan sacking O'Driscoll and replacing for Cotterill is one of the most baffling decisions I've ever seen made in football. I could've understood sacking him previously, but he'd seemed to put a much better run together, losing 1 of 7 in the league and having taken a point from top of the league. Seems odd to sack the manager when he's taken you on the best set of results you've had for a while.
