The timing was very odd indeed. I was really surprised when I heard the news, especially after a decent second half performance against Leyton Orient. Having said that, we were absolutely awful against Sheffield United the game before, and I get the feeling the decision to sack SOD was made after that game.

We are 23rd in League 1, and that simply isn't good enough for a club like us. SOD'S record for us speaks for itself, so in that sense he had to go. I'm not entirely convinced Cotterill is the right man to take us back to the Championship, but I think he'll keep us up. I'm not sure SOD would have done.

Cotterill only kept us up because he brought in O'Driscoll has assistant coach, the three months under him were about as bad as it's ever been as a Forest fan. He came in and got a couple of wins straight away and we were all impressed by his passion, but then he started to instill tactics as well as discipline. If you've got any creators say goodbye to them. 16 points from 17 matches was his record, that included a run which saw us score in 2 out of 12 games, including going the whole of December and January without scoring at home. After losing 0-2 to Burnley on the last day of January he decided to praise himself for giving Jay Rodriguez (the scorer of both goals) his first team debut. I saw some of the stuff he said in his press conference for you and some was such bollocks, says he kept us up. Funny that when he joined we were outside of the relegation zone and when he brought in O'Driscoll we were well inside the relegation zone. We stayed up for two reasons 1) we hired a good coach who was actually popular with the players and could coach football, not hoofball (the Boro pitchside reporter was aghast when Cotterill was bollocking his players for passing it and not kicking it into the corners when we were losing) 2) there was somehow three teams in the division that were an even greater shambles than us, Donny's failed Willie McKay experiment, Coventry's financial woes and Pompey's 10 point deduction. As for his crap about youth "I brought Patrick Bamford into the first team". No Steve, you played him for 8 minutes as a sub and then continued to ignore him as he scored or assisted 12 goals in two youth cup games whilst we were on a dire barren run hoofing it up to Marlon Harewood.

Good luck, I like Bristol City and I hope you're back in the Championship soon, but I wouldn't bet on a return soon.

Thanks, we're gonna need it! Yep, I think we'll be down here for a while, three seasons at least I reckon. I just hope it's not eight seasons like last time. :(

Sorry i havent been on for ages everyone, but ive been busy with a-levels atm :( Thought id shed my opinion on the events at bristol city the past few days.

When i heard the news of his sacking, i was appalled. Ive lost confidence in the board because of it. They've lied to us yet again, saying 'we will be sticking with sean for the long term' and he lasts 10 months? Embarrassing. I was firmly in the so'd in brigade because unlike a lot of fans i could see the long term benefits Sean was making and he was improving the side. Yes, okay, results weren't good enough, but you have to find a level to rebuild at. The timing was completely wrong imo and we will end up regretting this.

I also found it embarrassing how our board cant even be bothered to at least jntroduce steve cotterill to the press. No other boards at other clubs would lurk in the shadows, yet ours do...embarrassing.

anyway onto steve cotterill and im a bit confused at this decision, he sounds decent enough in interviews but im not happy if his game is long ball. Again, if we revert to this, then its another lie from a board wanting 'entertaining, possession, passing football'. Im gonna give him a chance though as i like to give most managers a chance (pulisexcluded ;) )

moral of the story is its tough being a city fan, and most of us need therapy lol ;) but if the board continue to alienate sections of the fans, and continue how embarrassing they are, it can only spell disaster for my club. Onto the tamworth game, live on itv, where i hope steve cotterill shows the people who doubted him to be wrong.

hello fellow red, blkmey our club is a mess at the moment. Why are we putting ourselves through this much pain and heartbreak again? Lol. Anyway nice to see a fellow bristol city fan on here :D

I think SOD had to go tbh. While the results and performances had improved somewhat, it still wasn't good enough. 2 wins from 19 games is unacceptable, actually it's bloody embarrassing!!! Don't forget we went down without a fight last season as well.

The problem I had with SOD is that he seemed to lack any motivation whatsoever, and it definitely showed on the pitch. Also, SOD seems to get praised for his style of play, but I didn't think the football was that good. We tried to play football, playing at the back with no end product, and eventually we ended up going long towards Baldock, which was pointless when he wants it on the floor. I just never understood his tactics at times. His subs were odd too. I'm not trying to bash SOD btw, he's not a bad manager. I just expected so much more. :(

As I've said before, I'm not exactly convinced Steve Cotterill is the right man, but I do think he will grind out results, which SOD just couldn't do unfortunately. pwned, it's also great to see a fellow City fan on here. :D

Fair point about the record, but still think it was far too soon. I think with all the behind the scenes work that needed doing, and which he was to a degree, it was never going to be done in a short time. As for steve cotterill, only time will tell i guess.

Anyway onto the last week

tamworth was a good game on itv. Glad we didnt give them what they wanted in an upset. The boys did us proud and im buzzing for watford at home, who coincidentally were the team i was following in the championship anyway haha :D think forestieri and deeney are who to watch.

Onto today and what an embarrassing performance. We were outclassed at times by a very poor rotherham side. Cheating ref didnt help too, but thats a different story haha. We are in desperate need of some new faces or we will get even worse than we currently are. Someone dressing up as a sheik was a goodlaugh though ;) quicker shorey goes the better in my opinion. Bottom of the league is something i never expected this season. I didnt expect promotion but i didnt expect relegation. :(

On to notts county where we desperately need to win this 6 pointer.

Harsh on Clarke. Their 2013 record is awful and he clearly doesn't have a settled lineup that can score enough goals but then neither do we. Kneejerk reaction, I would assume they have someone else lined up.

Decision rests with replacing Lukaku with Anichebe. That must be worth 10/12 points alone. Just look at how much he's benefited Everton so far. Guess its what happens these days though. One poor form run and you're out the door.

Carlisle wins with what sounds like a good performance from the commentary, hopefully this brings confidence to the squad and a good run could start. Also with performances like that, I hope the home attendance starts to pick up again.
It'd be foolish to get rid of him just yet but it's clearly mental trying to play a high defensive line with the centre backs he's got. Needs a left back in January and Vertonghen to move inside.

The problem they have is there's no more than two goals in their game. The high line can be exploited, but usually their defensive record is pretty stable. It's the lack of fire power in midfield and up-front that is stopping them. Bale covered the cracks last season. They wasted so much money in the summer.

Gone. I hope they don't know what they're doing.

Wonder who they'll get now?

I don't think he was the right man to take them forward. However I don't think they have the right players either. Wonder if they might try and get someone on a short term contract then go for someone else in the summer. The likes of Klopp are dream like. Not a chance.

Hiddink is being talked about, would be excellent for them.

Reckon Capello would be more likely, especially with the Baldini connection. Short term deal until the summer. Either way they need someone who would be willing to work under a DOF.

Glenn Hoddle is getting massively talked about too haha.

Mark Lawrenson mentioned Hoddle on MOTD2 last night as a possibility for the West Brom job.
