Right decision to sack AVB

Should have happened after the City game, least he has gone now

Tactically clueless, no plan B, if something isn't working stick to it anyway in the hope it does, that was AVB's belief

I would personally bring Harry back, had us playing great football, got us in the Top 4 on 3 occasions, far less of a risk than the others

The ones being talked about today are

Capello - Old, hates the media, would cost an arm and 2 legs to buy out of his Russian contract

Laudrup - Taking Swansea backwards despite massive investment by their standards

De Boer - Great style of play but never managed in Prem, could be the next Jol

Mancini - Horiffic man manager, would lose the dressing room in 5 mins

Hoddle - Hasn't managed in about 10 years

Redknapp for me

See that's what I mean about AVB. No Plan B, his final end game was ridiculous. I know why type of game he was trying to play, but it just can't work straight off. Take Rodgers at Liverpool (which is rich, because the rumours were Levy wanted him to replace Redknapp). Everyone knows the end game is to play 'death by football', but there's just not the players currently to do it consistently. You have to be smart and pragmatic. Not once in his reign did AVB (or for Chelsea) mastermind a great comeback against the bigger teams and outclass another big team.

Can't see you getting Redknapp back. Can't imagine he would want to work under a DOF. Capello/Hiddink sounds most likely, then get a manager in the summer to build a something at the club. I still think the core problem is Baldini. If anyone saw MOTD last night, AVB's outburst spoke words against the team above him.

Redknapp, tactically speaking, would still be the worst manager in the supposed top 6/7 by a long way. In retrospect, being ruthless in the summer and going for Martinez would have been the best solution.

Redknapp was a great fit them for. Unfortunately he wanted the England job, and very publicly wanted it too, which is why I reckon Levy got rid. They've made the right decision to get rid of him though, but think for whoever comes in, it might be too late for Top 4.

Dutch media claim that Spurs contacted Frank De Boer, but he refuses to leave Ajax mid season

What's everyone think about the Mackay situation? I can understand why Tan might want rid of him, but the way (and how publicly) the spat is in the media is absolutely horrendous.

Suarez has also signed a new 4 and a half year contract at Liverpool. win-win situation right there.

We tried for Martinez before AVB but he wanted to stay in the north as him and his family settled up there, didn't want to move south

According to our top ITK we have no interest in De Boer, Baldini wants Capello and is prepared to wait till after WC if necessary, second choice is Loew

De Boer just angling for an Ajax pay rise by drumming up false interest

The guy is a raving lunatic, another Vladimir Romanov, it is time the FA added teeth to their 'fit and proper person' test

As for Suarez i think if Real came calling he would be off in a heartbeat, all the new contract does is make him more expensive to get

The test is obvious bull.

May or may not be true. I think he'll stay if we get Top 4 personally. But it is win, win cos it obviously means whoever buys him will have to pay his proper market value and not a lowsy £40 million and £1.

Has any prospective owner failed the "fit and proper person" test? The number of dreadful owners since the test was introduced makes it clear that it is an absolute joke. I'd love to see a move towards the German system whereby nearly every club is owned by its supporters.

Didn't Russia want to keep Capello on, so he can get them qualified for their home world cup? I'd be surprised to see him leave for Spurs and if he did, it'd be a short term appointment at most

It's hard to tell with Suarez. One minute he's talking about wanting to spend years at Liverpool, the next he's pushing for a move to Arsenal. The deal is a win win situation for us though as Rooney pointed out. It means that we'll be able to generate a higher transfer fee for him in the summer if he does want out. He'll have 4 years left on his contract rather than the original 2

No chance of Spurs getting top 4 now, thank you Daniel Levy :D

I think it's hilarious. It really shows how clueless chairman can be when they sack a manager, with such little thought going into what they're going to do next. Spurs might now be more entertaining, but they won't finish any higher up the league.

Agree they won't be quite as stubborn, but I have to question Levy. Sherwood is a fool. They have absolutely no chance of getting in to the Top 4. He might be a better man manager than AVB, but tactically certainly not. Arsenal will wipe the floor with them in the FA Cup. Just so short sighted to have sacked AVB with no plan in place. They'll rightly fail now.
