But sales from 2009 to 2013 HAVE increased that much.

The average #1 sale for 2009 up to 15 August was 70,124 (using this site's chart vault).

The average #1 sale for 2013 up to 17 August was 117,811 (again using this site's chart vault).

Therefore giving a multiplier of x1.68.

So when BL has sold at least 1.68x as much as PF (1.68m??), then the sales argument for BL being a bigger hit than PF starts to stack up. Otherwise it's kinda redundant.

What were Poker Face's sales during its top 10 run? I'm sure Robin has done a hell of a lot more than 1.68x that. Let's not forget we're still comparing a song that has 4 years of trickle sales behind it with a song that's just about to leave the top 5.

'Applause' is still increasing quite nicely according to Kworb, so #2 on Sunday is still quite likely if she can keep it up. :cheer:

I think this would be a great result for her! I mean, it's higher than any other singles from the last album got.

I'm not surprised at all at Gaga "underperforming". I did think some of her fans when they were predicting it to storm straight to #1 weren't really appreciating that she's in a much different position than she was in early 2011: she lost a LOT of momentum with her last era, first with a bit of a backlash, and then over the past 18 months, I feel like there's been almost an indifference to her (which is arguably worse than being disliked) - I was struck by how little hype there was for her outside her fanbase. Not comparable to 'Born This Way' coming out which did feel like a genuine event.

That's not to say 'Applause' can't become a hit in the long run (I do personally think it's a big grower so we'll see), but it was always going to be an uphill task for her this time, and she was always going to have to work to win people over again.

Most GaGa fans don't understand this though. I agree completely. The interest in her from the casual music fan has completely disappeared. She's going to have to come out with something massive for their to be such huge hype around her again.

Has Texas Detroit City appeared lately please

No chance of top 75 it would seem :(

She missed 2 and a half days of sales, including the highest sales day of the week, to get to #2 this week she would have to stabilise around 0.4 above Avicii and seeing as she is 0.04 ahead of Avicii there would need to be a miracle for that to happen. I think the best possible outcome for her this week would be #5 to be honest, if she doesn't fall too fast towards the end of the week I think she can scrape the top 5 and hopefully remain in the top 5 next week when the music video is released. I would love to see it do better than it's doing but we need to face it, it is under-performing thus far.

Yeah, I agree with what everyone's saying in here. We need to accept that it's underperforming and hope for a single that will capture the imagination of most of the public.
In all honesty though, GaGa is a lot more niche than she was 3/4 years ago and I think it is fair to say 'Born This Way' (the song) killed a lot of her credibility, she's obviously not as big as she once was so #1 was never a given. Still, she is incredibly successful still and doing very well.

Exactly after her first album people couldnt wait for the follow up but when it disappointed the 'casual fan' started getting bored and so the hype grows smaller. She needs to comeback with great pop songs again for her to continue to be high in the charts automatically. A bit like Madonna in 1989 when she came back with Like a Prayer then she did it again in 1998 and with Hung Up in 2005!

Yeah, agreed, all Gaga fans seem to be deluded. Are there any Gaga stans here who aren't deluded and will actually admit that Applause is under-performing?

Yeah, to be fair, Madonna is probably the best example of someone continually reinventing themselves and coming back with a fresh sound (though let's pretend MDNA never happened ) - Gaga could definitely learn from this, as while Applause is by no means a terrible song, it does sound a little dated.

Something tells me GaGa won't 'do a Madonna' and get another massive hit a few years later. These days she doesn't appeal to many people outside of her fanbase. Applause will probably sell more than Judas, but not Edge of Glory or Born This Way :(

GaGa only keeps underperforming because her fans keep having ridiculously high expectations for her in the first place. Underperformance is relative to expectation (obviously) so if her fans don't want the general consensus to be "OMG GaGa is flopping!!" then they should reign in the whole "OMG she'll probs be #1 by [insert time]" etc.

GaGa isn't the biggest popstar on the planet and hasn't been since 2010 tbh. Rihanna has pretty much taken over that role (and Katy in the US). Also, Adele but she's not really one of their contemporaries.

Hmm, sounding dated never hurt Olly Murs!

It's not her fans. I am actually getting sick of people blaming them for everything. It's Gaga's overhype that translates into underperformance.

But it's mainly her fans who overhype her :P

Completely different thing, his sound is meant to be retro, Gaga is meant to be modern-pop.
