I'll try and listen to every song all the way but I can always tell whether a song isn't going to leave any form of impression before it's finished. There was one song I had to turn off because I couldn't bear anymore.

I do listen to each song at least once for the most part. If it's already passed the abysmal mark by 40 seconds though there's no way I'm sitting through any more.
I listen to each song once and usually out of the 50-odd there are 20 or so that I'll never touch again for being crap/forgettable. I don't waste time repeatedly listening to anything that scores less than 7/10. I then usually put the other 30 on rotation to decide my semi and later on my final votes. I've never had a problem with doing it this way, and so far haven't missed any 'growers'. 7/10's and 8/10's have scope to grow on me, 6/10's and below are pretty much lost causes.

I only turn off a song if its literally offending me or if I'm listened to a good chunk of it and decided it isn't going to go anywhere else nor contend for points, this doesn't count dance/quieter songs, I give them a lot more time as I know they could build up to something. It's mainly generic three minute long pop songs with build up verse, boring chorus, rinse, lather, repeat etc.

From that, I compile a top 10 and then listen to those again, but I don't usually go back to anything outside of it.

Kathaldazia are definitely in the wrong semi, all the key dance voters and countries who like the song are in the other semi. :snif: Hopefuly 'Closer' has some crossover appeal though, maybe the likes of Lee, Liam etc will pay more attention to it because Lakota Silva looks like Ke$ha. Holding thumbs, the song is a BANGER and a half!

IT IS KE$HA NO? Had to like thrice to make sure (before then moving onto those guys WOW). Song's a definite banger too btw.

I always give each song at least one listen through. It seems a bit pointless to just listen to 30, or even 90 seconds of a song just to see if it goes anywhere. Some songs tend to build progressively, especially if it's 5 minutes. How can you judge a dance track on the first 90 seconds if that's pretty much the beat gradually building up to an explosive "whoa" moment at 1:58 - you've stopped the song before it got going.

Last contest I decided to play the semi final tracks on shuffle without paying too much attention to the song title or who sent the track. As I mentioned to Seize, on the first run through the semi final tracks I listened to three generic pop songs that weren't exactly exciting me. Then Ghost Loft came on and instantly I was thinking "now this is something quite spectacular".

It's always interesting to see how each track can either divide or bring people together.

I agree with your comments, and in an ideal world I'd listen to them all in the car - but I can't download off zippyshare, my computer says no. So I have to youtube in between doing chores and stuff and make notes and rate any contenders. I then re-listen to the contenders to make sure the order is right.

When it comes to 5-minute-plus songs, I have a problem with padding, it's very much a modern pop phenomenon descended from the 80's dance remixes rather than the epic 8-minute single. 5 minutes of the same basic rhythm/lyrics repeated over and over just seems lazy to me, even if the last minute is wonderful, unless it's doing variations on a theme within the rhythm, with melody, instruments, production or lyrics. I just want to edit it down to 3 minutes! You're right, though, should listen to the whole thing!

Postiljonen did it right, make the groove delicious right away, have a subtle chorus, repeat with variations, build and then end on a spine-tingler bridge. Clever and effective. You're right, Ghost Loft had that instant short gorgeous melody right at the start, everything that follows enhances and is foreplay teasing till it comes back in again. Oooerrr! I love being teased in music...

We have A fan. :w00t:

I listen to near enough every song fully through, unless it's like a 1.5/10 or less moment. There's not been TOO many of those this year; Stars (Roses Gabor) and t (iamamiwhoami) were the only ones I don't think I've got to the end of?
(The scandipop post appeared after I'd discovered it but they love it too :()

They always do that. Fucking wannabes <_<

Erm how do you know you don't like the song if you never even heard it in full though? Maybe the ending of t was so incredible it'd instantly become your 8 pointer?

It's Run On Love I wish I didn't get to the end of TBH. Wasted time. GOOD GOD it was SO DULL I was expecting some fabulous breakdown but there was still nothing but samey crappy melody. So yeah at least I TRIED. Same may NOT be said about your Gina-loving betraying ass. SHAME ON U.

Well, if a woman sounding like a cat in pain sounds like a cat in pain for 3 minutes, then the chances of them still sounding like a cat in pain for the last 90 seconds are quite high.

Sorry if I'm wrecking your heart right now, hate to be the Hazel to your Katie, oops. :(

You look like a sumo wrestler.

Whut?

I listened to it and thought it was something that would appeal to anybody who loves a bit of cheesy 90s foreign pop. :D

Oh dear :( another DNQ might send me packing. I love it THAT much this month.

It PAINS ME to have to predict some of those abysmal songs to go through.
