Posted August 15, 201311 yr OK, it's overlong (so what film isn't these days!) and the script needs tweaking & made more concise n logical (ditto) but to be such a major US flop?! Unfair, it's an old-fashioned cowboy romp but with the cavalry and big business as the bad guys - which is pretty much a reflection of our political times, and hardly unfair in terms of native american treatment. Preference would have been to have made Johnny Depp half-caste to avoid cringe-worthy allegations, but it's well-made, fun, and the cast are all perfectly fine. So, in comparison to the teen trite tedious awfulness of Percy Jackson which I saw yesterday (the only good thing about is Nathan Fillion's cameo and his dialogue seems lightyears ahead of the rest of the film, with winking in-jokes about firefly, so much so i wonder if he got to write his own dialogue!) The effects are good, but then aren't they always these days, it's expected...
August 15, 201311 yr I want to see The Lone Ranger but for some reason the movie is aimed for younger viewers, so I didn't care much of it. I want to see 2Guns.
August 15, 201311 yr Wasn't 'Lone Ranger' unfortunate to be released in the US as thr heatwave was at it's peak? That would most certainly have played a massive factor in it's success.

That might explain why land of the cowboy didnt go for it....or maybe young audiences dont have the same affection for the genre as older - westerns were EVERYWHERE well into the 80's.
