Posted August 29, 201311 yr Elysium, if you can get past the pretentious scientifically daft, and sociologically unlikely premise, is a gory sci fo action romp with two great villains and Matt damon as a good action hero. Jody Foster as icy bad-a** b*tch woman is worth seeing, about time she did a big baddie. We're the Millers is a teen-aimed morally-suspect drug-smuggling romp, with lots of base jokes and a thoroughly likeable cast and characters and performances. It has no pretentions, is what it is, and you need to stay for the credits until you hear the Friends theme tune and watch Jennifer Aniston's reaction. Me, I'll take We're The Millers anyday. Worth seeing for the spider-bite sequence, among many.
August 29, 201311 yr 'We're The Millers' is really funny. After being a bit of a damp squid on comedies (well, films in general really) so far this year it really is the comedy of the year for me. I agree in that it is what it is, but it's still hilarious. Not seen 'Elysium' yet but I'm not sure I want to. :/ 'District 9' is fantastic though!
August 30, 201311 yr I want to see Elysium only for Jodie Foster <3 She really can't do wrong. We're the Millers should be funny and I'll wait until it's released to watch it.

August 31, 201311 yr Not seen that yet. Kinda been put off from watching it by Melissa McBride. Once you've seen her in one thing, you've seen her in everything else. She'sa one trick pony and her "character" is more annoying than funny for me. But I have heard very good things about it, outside of this forum, so I will wait until a DVD/HD-rip of it comes online to watch it or something.
August 31, 201311 yr Yeah, just saying Melissa McBride isn't in this :D But McCarthy's character in The Heat is probabl her craziest and kookiest so far although I agree she's been a one trick pony (albeit a VERY good one).

August 31, 201311 yr Elysium is stunning visually but pretty much weak otherwise. Jodie Foster is really bad in it, and I was most excited 4 her
September 7, 201311 yr "The Heat" was nothing on "We're The Millers". I'm just back from seeing the latter and it is SO laugh out loud funny, I was in stitches when the weed baby got run over. Great cast, my favourite movie of those I've seen this year and the funniest thing I've seen in ages (probably better than "Bridesmaids", the characters were more likeable imo and it had a heart warming quality to it by the end). "Waterfalls".
September 9, 201311 yr I just watched Elysium...not bad, and it made me believe that in the near future, this is what's going to happen with our world :(
September 10, 201311 yr Author I just watched Elysium...not bad, and it made me believe that in the near future, this is what's going to happen with our world :( I wouldnt worry too much about it happening in real life it's more of a fantasy "what if" warning - I suspect B-) ( in real life where would the food come from for so many poor people? The rich people in space would still have radiation etc problems (despite the silly instant healing machine that they selfishly keep for themselves - presumably you could create a person from a finger just as easily as a blown-off face!) or a fairly small meteor would get rid of all of them in one go. Robots control the poor people (in skilled jobs which would require robots as intelligent as people!) but the rich people still take on people to do simple work in factories that robots can do much cheaper and more reliably. With technology as advanced as in this film, there wouldnt really be any need to force most humans to live in poverty and it would be a very unstable system politically. Not every rich person would be a selfish monster when it was all being set-up...) just a a thought - hopefully I'm not wrong, or else we're in trouble!
