CLUB queen Katy B played her new single 5am for the first time at Sziget but is keeping mum about her album details.

Katy’s debut On A Mission was Playlist’s album of 2011, and the Croydon siren promised the follow-up will be out “before the end of the year”.

But Katy teased: “It’s so frustrating that my record label won’t let me tell anyone what it’s called.

“I said that on Twitter last week and Wretch 32 replied, saying: ‘I know exactly how frustrating that is.’”

Katy, 23, explained that 5am is about needing space to relax.

The new release is expected to receive its official radio premiere in the coming weeks.

5AM, perhaps Katy's best track to date, is set in a similar scenario to her biggest hit Lights On, the moment when the music's over but you want to keep going. Except this time, a little older and less energetic, Katy's not sure what she wants. It takes place across a beat that Katy describes as "uncomfortable, something I like but I shouldn't", with the lyrics written from the tipping point when ecstasy turns to insecurity and you're helplessly overpowered by the voice in your head. "I need somebody to calm me down/ A little loving like Valium/ I need somebody to knock me out." It's a song that anyone who has ever been overwhelmed at sunrise by the simultaneous impulses to snog someone, run away from them, keep dancing and have a little sit down, will sympathise with.

I heard it earlier but can't find a link now! Very good, much better than What Love Has Made Of although it's still missing something...

What is the song like? Is it another house song? I heard Aaliyah on the radio again yesterday, I really wish it was promoted comerically, I think it could've done better than What Love Is Made Of.
Melodically beautiful as ever-- production and chorus just aren't there though :(

This all over. The melody is brilliant but the production need to be much heavier, this sounds like a demo that has a lot of a potential if tweaked right.

"Got Paid" should've been the proper lead single. That EP was so strong.

'Aaliyah'

'5am' (gonna be top tho eventually)

'Got Paid'

'Light As A Feather'

'What Love Is Made Of'

'Danger'

u can take that to the bank

Her best single to date for me, easily. Won me over on the first listen and keeps getting better, I hope it's actually a hit for her after her last average single went nowhere.
Not quite as good as What Love Is Made Of on the first listen (it's lacking a bit of that one's urgency and punch) but very nice nonetheless. As ever. Another album would be very much welcomed soon.

I wasn't fussed on first listen. That old saying 'definition of a grower' SPRINGS TO MIND.

I think this is actually a very subtle and clever piece of music. Hooks everywhere. Could well end up being my favourite from her...

ON REPEAT NOW

So good and a major challenger to the stuff on the Danger EP. I didn't think she'd come close to any of that but this is more stripped back and works better for it.

Excited for the album.

This is very good. Judging by this and 'What Love Is Made Of' the album sounds very promising.
This is incredible. She's yet to put a foot for me, I love her !

Ok, this has definitely hit me now! The melodies are just... perfect. It does sound a little demo-y but the melodies definitely make up for it  I liked What Love Is Made Of well enough, but it lacked her magic and felt a bit vapid for me.

Its better than her last single, got hooked after the first listen, easily her best to date.

This is like seriously amazing, even the video is better than when I first saw it! So stoked for the new album.
