I have uploaded some ~graphiques~ in the first post with a breakdown of what countries voted for my songs each contest. Had to slightly resize them to prevent massive screen stretchage (it still stretches a bit but not too much). Hope they are still readable.

EDIT: Gonna split the 2nd graphic into 2 (for 1-5pts and 6-18pts), the full image is too wide to be compressed that much.

EDIT2: Done. Yay.

Orphic Oxtra represent Persephonia in the Best of the Rejects VI semis

The annual retrospective BuzzJack Song Contests have kicked off and the results from the nominations round of The Best of the Rejects VI have been revealed.

Persephonia had four songs up for nomination - from Kadie Elder, MAASAI, Orphic Oxtra and The Hics - and while 3 of them fell flat, 'Skeletons Having Sex On A Tin Roof' by Orphic Oxtra rightfully took its place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Kadie Elder's 'Simple Guy' and MAASAI's 'Memories' were never really in contention for qualification, finishing 17 and 23 points below the lowest qualifier from their respective months (finishing 14th and 15th), but The Hics' 'Tangle' came rather closer, coming 8th in its month and just 2 points away from a potential qualification. Nonetheless, the Persephonian BJSC Committee is reportedly pleased enough with having some representation beyond these early stages.

Nomination has opened for the main The Best of VI contest. Persephonian representatives Truls and Jaymes Young are easily our best hopes for making the semi-finals there, with both making the top 3 in their contests. There are also some hopes for relatively niche support for Roses Gabor giving her a chance too.

Persephonian BJSC Committee calmed down from the brink of a boycott announcement as 2 Persephonia entries progress to TBO semi-finals

The Persephonian BJSC Committee were moments away from announcing an official boycott of the final of BJSC - The Best of the Rejects VI, but were successfully calmed at the last minute.

The boycott threat came about in response to the announcement that Elëdan's entry 'Boy Is A Bottom' by Willam, Detox and Vicky Vox progressed to the final over not only Elëdan's own far superior contender 'Pyrrhic' by Julianna Barwick, but also Persephonia's last remaining contender, 'Skeletons Having Sex On A Tin Roof' by Orphic Oxtra, which sadly failed to make the top sixteen of semi-final 2 of the contest and will therefore not appear in the final.

It is believed the PBJSCC changed their minds on the confirmation that T.H.I.E.F.S' 'Breathe' had made it to the final for D'yermak'er.

It would not have been our only BJSC boycott of the year - while Persephonia has voted reliably in the regular contests throughout 2013, the PBJSCC saw no motivation to vote in the final of the spinoff BJFestivalen II, which had the lowest Persephonian viewing figures of any BJSC event in the last 2 years. The final was only picked up in Persephonia by the niche channel Altyr Muunilinst Pride TV (AMPTV), with all the major TV networks not making an attempt to pay for the rights to show the event, instead choosing to broadcast popular show like 'Grass Growing Super Deluxe Fun Time' and 'Wow! That Paint Sure Is Dry'.

In better news, the results of the Best of BJSC VI nominations round were also announced tonight and as expected Persephonian representatives Truls and Jaymes Young progress into the semi-final stage with 'Out Of Yourself' and 'Dark Star' (Kiely Rich Remix) [Hitstastic Black Dwarf Radio Edit] respectively.

Roses Gabor's 'Stars' was, also as expected, the closest thing to a third qualifier, finishing in 8th/9th (ties were not broken) with 23 points, 7 less than the lowest qualifier. Spor's 'Pacifica' (Kito & Reija Lee Remix) and Gent Mason's 'Eden' both only received 9 points, 23 and 22 off a qualification respectively, to come 22nd/23rd and 24th/25th/26th in their months. Most recent entry 'Surph' by Rustie feat. Nightwave did slightly better than it did in its actual contest, coming 10th/11th with 21 points, 9 below the lowest qualifier.

Truls and Jaymes Young both progress to The Best of BJSC VI final!

Persephonia have defied predictions by taking both Truls and Jaymes Young to the final of The Best of BJSC VI.

The latter's song 'Dark Star' (as remixed by Kiely Rich and further edited by Hitstastic) was widely expected to make the final of the contest but Truls' 'Out Of Yourself' was barely even considered as a potential qualifier by most predictors. The two songs are the two most successful Persephonia entries in the country's history.

This doubles the number of Persephonia entries that have made the final of their year's Best of. Spark's 'Revolving' (the biggest hit for the nation prior to this year) made it into The Best of BJSC III final, but floundered at 36th place out of 38. Beth Ditto's 'I Wrote The Book' performed much better in the final of The Best of BJSC IV, finishing 14th, despite coming just 13th in its original contest.

No other Persephonia entries have made it to the Best of... semi-finals.

A surprise new candidate for Persephonian presidency?

Up until this week it has been widely assumed that the upcoming Persephonian presidential elections would be another convincing victory for incumbent Salim Zosimus and his Carellisian People's Congress party, but recent opinion polls have shown a surge in support for a newly founded opposition party, the Liberal Cultural Equality Party (LCEP). An LCEP victory would mean the party's leader, Tara Ella (pictured below at a 2012 event), would become Persephonia's first ever female head of state.

In addition to being a liberal political activist who is thought of as a person whose ideas may change the cultural landscape in some sections of society, Ms. Ella is also an accomplished musician, best known for her 2010 smash hit single 'Beauty' (which is reclimbing in the charts thanks to her increased political presence and even making a splash in the United Kingdom, where it currently sits at #41 in the midweek charts).

Persephonian News Bulletin returns from latest unexplained publishing break

(editor's note: howdy y'all)

Up to speed with Persephonia: Jaymes Young top 5, award snubs, The Prodigy and KOTA

Persephonia achieved new heights of success in The Best of BJSC VI where Jaymes Young & co. finished 5th with 'Dark Star', taking in 77 points. The contest was won, not surprisingly, by the song that originally beat 'Dark Star' to the win, Syndare LVII entry 'Take Me Home' by Belanger. Another Persephonia denier completed the top 2 - Sandebörg's LIII 2nd-placer 'Dance Our Tears Away' by John De Sohn feat. Kristin Amparo which denied Persephonia their first top 2 until later achieving that with 'Dark Star'. Truls' 'Out Of Yourself', which came 3rd for us that contest, was also a surprise qualifier in The Best of BJSC VI as reported previously. Not unexpectedly it performed quite poorly in the final, finishing 27th of 30 with 37 points.

Martin Garrix's 'Animals', another LVII entry this time from Yehesi, came 3rd despite missing the top 10 in its original contest. Persephonian News Bulletin refuses to report what finished 4th just ahead of Jaymes Young on moral grounds.

The full voting information from Persephonia in both The Best of BJSC VI and The Best of BJSC - The Rejects VI will be made public at some point in the near future for all the masses of people who obviously care very deeply.

The annual BJSC Awards returned after a year off though there was nothing to write home about for Persephonia. Our nation was among 10 nominees for 'Best Nation' and among 14 for 'Most Inspired Nation' but presumably did not even come close to winning either (they were taken by Aeroche and Zechonia respectively, as approved by the Persephonian voting public).

Moving on into the new year, Persephonia are kicking off 2014 with a bang as our 40th entry to the contest can now be unveiled. It's the rather mysterious Kids Of The Apocalypse with 'EMPIRE', a big, dare we say it, 'epic' sounding electronic / drum n bass song about how terrible mankind is. Viewer discretion is advised regarding the official video for the song which contains some graphic imagery. We implore you to not let this distract you from how ~majestic and glorious~ the song is.

Kids Of The Apocalypse have been on song contest radars before with their previous track 'Masters Of The Sun' appearing in an edition of rival contest Unknown Pleasures. However, 'EMPIRE' was approved by the Persephonian BJSC Committee before we realised that was the same KOTA (they were submitted there under only the acronymic name) and we ended up just loving it too much to let it go. We note that our usual rule of not recycling artists does not explicitly forbid recycling Unknown Pleasures artists (just look at how we shamelessly sent SOHN months after he won that contest).

The relaunch of BJSC Spinoffs has kicked off in Ashton with a 90s dance theme. Persephonia's first ever entry to an official spinoff (other than BJFestivalen) then is the most popular song of all time in our country: The Prodigy with 'Breathe'. Need we say any more? (editor's note: I hope not because I don't get paid overtime for writing these bulletins)

KOTA make the final (we think)

Persephonia are officially on another qualification streak as Kids Of The Apocalypse enter the final of BJSC LXI with 'EMPIRE'. This should of course come as no surprise considering it's being tipped as a win contender by some other nations. We'll remain skeptical as ever but nonetheless hopes are very high for another good month in the Federal Union of Persephonia.

Hosts Elëdan pulled off an irritating ruse in revealing (mostly) the non-qualifiers instead of the qualifiers so if the following 2 paragraphs have any inaccuracies blame them.

The rest of the semi-final 2 results were largely not in line with Persephonian voters. The track that received Persephonia's 12 safely made it through but none of the rest of our top 5 did. Former Persephonian potential entry 'Tigerhead' by Iiris, our LXI 10 pointer, missed out by the skin of its teeth for The People's Republic of Ginsay Lohands. Not as close were Shadow Child's '23' (feat. Tymer) (our 8 pointer from Euphoriffith), BenZel's 'Fallin' Love' (our 7 pointer from Palmyra) and Arion's 'Seven' (our 6 pointer from Séyetana). The song we awarded 4 points to, PRoJ entry 'Dripping Down' by East India Youth, also failed to qualify. That doesn't leave much to reveal of our semi-final votes but stay tuned as ever for the full results of the Persephonian televote to be announced at the end of the contest.

Until then we can also reveal the finishes in the televote of the other non-qualifiers. Bignia-Zaragovina (The Good Wife Cast's 'Thicky Trick'), Xanaga (Kacey Musgraves' 'Follow Your Arrow') and Sandénia (DJ Giovanni, Uch and Billy Brown's 'Open Book' (feat. GinaMarie Z)) made up the bottom 3 of so called 'songs' with the latter track breaking a Persephonian record for fewest public votes received from Persephonia in any contest. Thankfully none qualified. Aside from that, Varakë DNQ 'Sky Is Black' by H1987 came 13th in the Persephonian ranking, Singerpurear's record-extending 11th consecutive DNQ 'You Can't Stop The Beat' by Wally Lopez feat. Jamie Scott came 15th, Ethanola were 16th with 'Same Old Place' by Genius Of Time, Kylienips 17th with 'Last Time' by Moderat and finally Ojnoj came 21st with MisterWives' 'Reflections'.

I've completely redone (again) the history section of the first post. The text list of entries is BACK but I've included links to the graphical versions of all the points I've handed out and received. And some very swaggy links to the songs. You may or may not want to click those.

'EMPIRE' bags Persephonia's best finish to date!

Persephonia have scaled new heights for the 3rd time in 9 contests as Kids Of The Apocalypse's 'EMPIRE', our entry to BJSC LXI hosted averagely by Elëdan, matches our previous peak of 2nd while posting a larger points total than our previous runner-up.

It marks the first time a Persephonian entry has broken 200 points, finishing the evening on 209. Our previous points record was 194 with Jaymes Young & co.'s 'Dark Star' in BJSC LVII. It's the fifth highest points score achieved by any song under the 12-point voting system, a point behind Foxes' 'Youth', eight off LIX winner 'Given The Chance' by The Kite String Tangle and naturally behind the new 2nd placer on that list, the Daehun entry 'Dernière Danse' by Indila which just pipped KOTA to the win (though by a reasonably convincing margin, taking home 227 points). Eva Simons' 'Silly Boy' still looks like it's not being shifted any time soon with its incredible 268 tally.

In addition, 'EMPIRE' broke the Persephonian record for number of 12s received. Four previous entries (Deaf Club's 'Moving Still', Roses Gabor's 'Stars', Spor's 'Pacifica' (Kito & Reija Lee Remix) and the aforementioned 'Dark Star') of ours managed three 12s but 'EMPIRE' is the first to go beyond that, receiving five top scores. Big thanks to Florina, Ingermanlandia, N DNTN, PRoJ and Terra Dinosaur for providing said 12s.

But the national records don't stop there! The song received points from 32 different countries, breaking the record of 30 also previously set by 'Dark Star'. That also meant the song received votes from more countries in the final than any other, the third time Persephonia has managed that following Truls' 'Out Of Yourself' and 'Dark Star'. That's slightly bittersweet considering we've never actually properly won but it's still something. Finally, 'EMPIRE' was announced as the winner of semi-final 2 of the contest, our second semi winner after (you guessed it) 'Dark Star', also besting the semi-final points tally achieved by that song.

I think it's clear that we were the REAL winners. Ignoring the fact that Indila's song did of course receive the top score from nearly a fifth of the voters.

Final results commentary + Persephonia's televote results

As above, the top 2 of BJSC LXI were Daehun and Persephonia, scoring 227 and 209 with Indila's 'Dernière Danse' and Kids Of The Apocalypse's 'EMPIRE' respectively. The former tally included 12 point scores from an unprecedented ten different countries (out of 53 non-Daehun voters), beating the previous all-time record of 9 achieved by Isconia entry 'Video Games' by Lana Del Rey. This is even more impressive considering the fact it's only the second foreign language winner ever (after Ashtonise winner 'Mitt Liv Är Mitt' by Molly Sandén). It was also the first ever win for Daehun whose previous best was 3rd with Ailee's 'I Will Show You'. Persephonia's finish is discussed in detail above.

Both Daehun and Persephonia are of course members of the Union of Jubirdia, as are the rest of the entire top 5. Aeroche's entry, the Bridge & Law remix of 'Love Me Lots' by Ain't No Love, was touted as the winner by many including our own bookmakers but ended up well adrift in a still respectable 3rd with 164 points. To add another record to a record-shattering contest that's a fourth consecutive top 5 finish for Aeroche, matching the record set on two different occasions by Numayania. Hendinia came 4th with 'Take Me Home' by Cash Cash feat. Bebe Rexha scoring 156 points while D'yermak'er completed the top 5 with Anna Lunoe's 'Breathe' taking in 143 points.

The new reptilian leadership of the formerly avian state of Terra Dinosaur (previously Terra Avium) seem to be doing a good job so far as the country posts its best finish, coming 6th with M83's 'Un Nouveau Soleil', three places higher than their previous best with NO CEREMONY///'s 'Feelsolow'. Kluminican Republic had back-to-back top 10s for the first time as they came 7th with the a-ha sampling 'I'll Be Gone' by Up To No Good, their fourth top 10 in all. Trifoski got a third top 10 but the first of those to not win. Their entry 'Love Rhythm' by Sentinels finished 8th, beating on a tie the returning nation The Pendulous Republic of Nork (another 'facelifted' country, previously known as Kopečka) who finished 9th with John Grant's 'Pale Green Ghosts'. Also making a return to the contest, #00274E finished 10th with Oscar Key Sung's 'All I Could Do', their 7th top 10 finish and also their 7th unique positional finish in the top 10, with their six other top ten successes finishing in each of the top 6 positions though not in order.

Also in the final on a return to the contest were Caerfyrddia (11th with Aynur Aydın's 'Life Goes On'), Unovia (28th with 'Breathe' by Da French Connexion feat. Aura Dione, not to be confused with the more successful Anna Lunoe song of the same name) and N-Lazone (30th with 'Helium' by Chris Lake feat. Jareth). There were no brand new countries this contest but Jamvale made the final for the first time after falling short with their first two entries. Third time lucky 'Blow' by Martin Solveig and Laidback Luke finished 29th, with a large points lead over N-Lazone. The wooden spoon of LXI, finishing 31st out of 31 was Ingermanlandia's entry 'Stand Still' by Flight Facilities feat. Micky Green.

Florina were the only other country besides Daehun and Terra Dinosaur (and Jamvale kinda) to get a new peak this contest. Their entry 'Pulsing' by Tomas Barfod feat. Nina K also had some hype to begin with but it largely faded and it ended up 27th, two places higher than their only previous finalist, 'Dark In My Imagination' by of Verona.

The rest of the Jubirdia nations in the final not mentioned above: Tiësto's 'Red Lights' finished 14th for Aquafina, Bellamia were 21st with Mischa Daniels' 'Can't Live Without You' (feat. Sharon Doorson) and Ramrynia underperformed with Borgeous' 'Invincible', hyped by many as a potential winner but settling for just 25th.

Here are the full results of the Persephonian televote, with a warning to Persephonian readers to watch out for any bullets fired at us from the general vicinity of N DNTN. Voting figures are as ever arbitrarily converted to scores out of 10.

Returning to the CONTEST, not the final. Nice try but you have to do something significant to get a write-up in this papah ~

Unovia skipped last contest? Shittttt

I don't want to be part of your stupid club ANYWAY

I'm sure ONE DAY we will both give points to each other's entries in the same final.

Anyways well done on your 2nd place (however frustrating that may be), I should be annoyed that an artist I found out about first has done so well when sent by someone else (and to a different contest lol), but I'm even starting to prefer Empire to Masters of the Sun now!

Persephonian News Bulletin ~ 11/02/2014

Confirmations well underway in Jungyu

As exclusively announced in DaeNews, Persephonia are the official cohosts of the sixty-second edition of BJSC (officially designated 六十二 rather than LXII in honour of its East Asian theme). The city of Jungyu, capital of Persephonia's Lauhun State, was awarded hosting rights over the country's overall capital Carellis, again to closer fit the theme of the contest and due to the state's closer relations with main hosts Daehun. Jungyu is hosting the semi-finals and will announce the results of those before handing over to Yamatopori, Daehun's capital, for the grand final.

At the time of writing 46 countries have so far entered the latest contest, with over four days to go. The Persephonian BJSC Committee is hoping the contest might come close to the participation record, set last month in Elëdan (with 57 entries).

Persephonia will only auto-qualify for the final of BJSC 六十二 if there are an even number of entrants - as Daehun get the only guaranteed auto-qualification following their win in the last contest - which has put pressure on Persephonia to ensure we reach the final in the case of having to go through semi-finals, as a host nation has never previously failed to qualify for the final of their own contest.

The darkness thickens

(editor's note: why is this in the list of headlines for this bulletin?)

Spinoff & TBO voting statistics to be released alongside those of current contest

Persephonian News Bulletin would like to apologise for the delays in the release of official voting statistics for the recent Best of BJSC VI, Best of the Rejects VI and 90s Dance spinoff contests and can confirm they will be released at last along with those for BJSC 六十二.

We should probably mention that The Prodigy's 'Breathe', Persephonia's first official spinoff entry (besides BJFestivalen II), finished 18th out of 32 in the 90s Dance spinoff, a satisfactory enough result. The contest was won by Mdiče's entry 'Show Me Love' by Robin S.

Persephonian News Bulletin ~ 16/02/2014

Semi-finals kick off with absolutely no drama whatsoever shut up

The semi-finals of BJSC 六十二 have begun, with the grand opening at 20:00 GMT today in Jungyu, Lauhun State, Persephonia.

There were absolutely no issues with Euphoriffith's entry which was always 'Murking' by Jme and was definitely not originally a song that had already been entered and somehow managed to slide through the veto commission.

Persephonia don't AQ, but hope to 'Return' to the final anyway

As there were 57 entries (matching the record set in the last contest in Elëdan), only one song autoqualified for the final of BJSC 六十二, that being Lim Kim's 'All Right' representing last month's winners Daehun.

That means Persephonia, despite hosting the semi-finals, still have to compete in them. The (co-)host entry can now be officially announced as 'The Return', a dark and menacing electronic track from Leeds-based duo Paris XY. Clocking in a few seconds short of 6 minutes, it's the longest of Persephonia's 41 entries to date, taking that record from Savage Skulls and Douster's 5:22 track 'Bad Gal' (feat. Robyn).

Listen to the track and - this is important - watch the video below. (editor's note: seriously, the video improves it loads)

The song has already received heavy critical acclaim in Aeroche and Espen among others so we are hoping the track will manage to make it through to the final (especially as both of those countries are in our semi-final). If it doesn't, we will become the first ever nation to announce ourselves as a non-qualifier, which would be kinda cool as well.

Disappointing finish in Daehun

Paris XY's 'The Return', Persephonia's entry to the 62nd BuzzJack Song Contest (cohosted by ourselves and neighbours Daehun) finished in a fairly disappointing 24th place.

The song racked up a decent total of 73 points from 16 countries, but this was actually a significant drop from the number of points it received in the semi-final (where it scored 89 points to finish 2nd, enough for it to be theoretically projected to finish 4th in the final - meaning it came close to the all time record for biggest regression from semi-final to final, currently held by the 22-place drop from Caerfyrddia entry '#Sitterher' by Gabrielle). The biggest supporters of the song were Aeroche, who awarded it the maximum 12 points. Umiiruka awarded it 8 points.

Nonetheless, it marked Persephonia's 25th appearance in a BJSC final and our third in a row, one of our better qualification streaks.

Final results commentary + Persephonia's televote results

The long dormant nation of Kellyana Kingdom made a BJSC comeback (under the new name of FARC) after missing out the last 44 contests. The last time they entered they finished 3rd and the long absence hasn't depleted any of their magic as their comeback immediately gave them a debut win, with SOHN's 'Artifice' scoring a narrow victory with 164 points received. This win came after it was projected to finish only 20th based on the semi-finals, a record progression. SOHN was a previous entrant of Persephonia, finishing 19th with previous track 'The Wheel' in BJSC L.

The rest of the top 4 were all within one vote of winning. Skall DNQed for BJSC LXI but were back with a bang this month and finished 2nd with 'Baba Yetu' by Christopher Tin feat. Soweto Gospel Choir, scoring just two fewer points than FARC. Only a further 4 points behind that were Aeroche who finished 3rd a second month in a row with Toyboy & Robin's 'Jaded'. Another 4 points behind, so finishing 4th but only 10 behind the winner, was late favourite 'Solo Dancing' by Indiana representing Ramrynia. The fifth placed entry was a little further adrift (133 points for Espen's entry, Trevor Something's 'All Night').

Little-tipped 'DIE W/ US' by backt mariah put in a strong performance for N DNTN, finishing 6th, while positions 7 to 10 were separated by just 3 points. Topping that close group was Vülkyria entry 'I Can't Keep Up' by Tourist feat. Will Heard. No matter how much they claim to the contrary this is not their biggest hit, as under their old name of Letland they reached a high of 3rd with Anine Stang's 'Dominoes' in BJSC XXXII. It is their joint second highest finisher though and by far their biggest hit under the new name, with "Vülkyria" per se only having a last place finish and several DNQs to its name previously. Mdiče and Séyetana also made strong comebacks after DNQing for LXI, finishing 8th with Stay Positive's 'Blood Brother' and 10th with a Nightcore version of The Cab's 'Angel With A Shotgun' respectively. The top 10 was completed by Ingermanlandia's Ingrid Michaelson, 9th with 'Girls Chase Boys'.

With registration currently closed there are still no new countries to speak of but aside from FARC 3 other returnees to the contest also make the final. Kathaldazia finished 15th with 'Cool & Deadly' by F.eU and Nyanda, matching the finish of their last comeback finalist 5 contests ago, Greenfroze came 19th with Charlotte Qvale's 'The Fire' (feat. Thomas Eriksen) after sitting out the previous contest and FNT Nickodonia returned again to finish 28th with Parralox's 'Isn't It Strange'. Palmyra finally qualified for the final again after their last 9 entries (not in consecutive contests) DNQed. Mapei's 'Don't Wait' finished 21st for the country.

Aside from FARC the only other country to score a new best finish was Ethanola. Their previous best was 23rd with their debut entry 'Gotham' 3 contests ago. After 2 DNQs since then, they returned to the final this month and went as high as 14th with DJ Zinc's 'Show Me' (feat. Sneaky Sound System).

Jubirdia countries outside the top 10: Aquafina finished 11th with IIDA's 'Hands' despite receiving an impressive 6 12s; D'yermak'er's curse of doing the worst with their best entries continued as Steed Lord came 20th with 'Curtain Call'; Allecian's top 20 drought also continued as of Verona came 30th out of 31 with 'Keep The Faith (It's Only You And Me)', also the second time that band have finished bottom 3; finally, Daehun's autoqualifying entry 'All Right' by Lim Kim took the wooden spoon in their home contest, finishing 31st and last with 43 points received (7 behind Allecian). That's the worst finish in the semi-final format following a win in the contest's history.
