As you know, I really loved this entry, probably the best thing you've ever sent. Couldn't think of a better song to be your first winner even though I loved Empire & Dark Star as well. Congrats!

Been exactly a year since Dark Star was denied by Take Me Home as well (and a personal best for you at the time I think?), thought you might like that little bit of symmetry :P

It's my favourite of my entries as well, could not have had a more perfect song be my first winner. (That said I am extremely surprised that it was this song, I had some idea when I sent 'Dark Star' and 'EMPIRE' that they'd do quite well but I'd honestly never have predicted this one to do any better than low top 20 (instrumental drum n bass doesn't exactly scream BJSC), so happy that others have recognised it for the beautiful piece of music it is ) I do wonder how it would have done if I sent it back in 2009 when I originally intended to though - certainly wouldn't have been near a win and likely would have failed to qualify I think. Lucky miss there :magic:

And yes I did notice that it's been exactly a year since 'Dark Star' (only just now though as I was looking through past green rooms for a bit of inspiration and noticed that my contest had a similar numeral to Randy's) and this fact satisfies me.

Aside: my 'points received' graphics (i.e. this one) aren't really built to handle more than 6 sets of the same score, so the 8 10s for 'Cry For Freedom' are a little bit crowded. Hope I don't ever get 10+ of the same score :magic:
Belated congrats BTW for winning the contest, definitely my favourite I've heard from you (also my first 12 I've think I've given you)

You gave Jade Blue 12 as well :heehee: Thank you for the support in the last 2 contests!

Carellis LXVIII kicks off with Eagles For Hands & Holly Partridge representing the hosts

For the second time this year Persephonia has kicked off the BuzzJack Song Contest semi-finals, this time in the glorious capital of Carellis. Participation numbers stand at 59, two more than our last contest which was at the time a (joint) record - however this is only the second largest contest following last month's 62-song bloodbath.

Last time we hosted the semi-finals we still had to go through them, as there were an odd number of entries so only our co-hosts Daehun (who won the previous contest) could auto-qualify. There are an odd number of entries again this time of course but that's no issue as we get that single auto-qualifier slot on this occasion following our win last month.

Our latest (47th) entry then is guaranteed to be our 32nd final appearance, and the 10th of those to auto-qualify (following eight One Big Final contests and our previous 'legitimate' auto-qualifier in LVIII). The artists behind it are Eagles For Hands, a curiously named producer from Brighton, and featured vocalist Holly Partridge who hails from London.

The song, 'Glass Heart', would be a bit of a risk entry in most circumstances but we are taking full advantage of our guaranteed final slot and potentially sacrificing a strong home ground finish to ensure all final voters are exposed to this kewl atmospheric garage / trip-hop / insert correct electronic music subgenre sound. Check it out ~

Persephonia remain joint with Daehun and N DNTN on qualification streak record

Persephonia retain the title of 'longest active qualification streak' for a second month - that much was already known even prior to the semi-final results reveal due to our auto-qualification. However tonight's reveal has confirmed that Daehun and N DNTN also continue their current streaks, so the 3 nations remain joint at the top of the list on 9 consecutive qualifiers each.

The semi-final results, live from Carellis Arena, were a huge success tonight, bringing a few shock qualifiers from the likes of Desbuanda, N-Lazone and Altyr Muunilinst as well as shock DNQs including Skall and Espen. The 59 entries have now been whittled down to 31 and voting in the grand final is now open. Don't forget to get your votes in, and especially don't forget to include 'Glass Heart' in those votes! :D

We are pleased to report that the Persephonian voting public's five favourite songs in both semi-finals advanced to the grand final. Unfortunately of the other ten songs we voted for only one other (our 1 pointer in semi-final 1) also made it in. Nonetheless, this sets up a very solid top 10 in the final for us.

AQ curse strikes (yup definitely blaming that)

Persephonia's latest entry 'Glass Heart' by Eagles For Hands featuring Holly Partridge, which auto-qualified for the final following our win in BJSC LXVII, was the latest subject of the AQ CURSE and finished dead last. We aren't too beat up about this though as we always knew the song would be a risk and specifically sent it this month to ensure it appeared in the final, as we (almost certainly correctly) suspected it would not otherwise have made it.

The song received 46 points (well behind 30th placed Elëdan's 73 points) with points received from 13 different countries, the biggest supporters being Skall who awarded it 7 points. Proportionally that's still a better performance than three of our previous 31 final appearances, including two other auto-qualifiers (The Bullitts and the infamous Lil Wayne) and surprisingly an actual qualifier (Frankie & The Heartstrings' 'Hunger' is our worst performing final entry despite making it through a semi-final). Check out our NEW all-time proportional results table thingy in the first post for more similar tidbits :magic:

It is the second time Persephonia have held the wooden spoon following the aforementioned Lil Wayne entry. This minor and expected setback is a one month only phenomenon and we shall now return to our domination as we head into what will with any luck be our 10th consecutive final *.*

Final results commentary + Persephonia's televote results

The winner of the 68th BuzzJack Song Contest was Jamvale, quickly making up for their narrow miss of the top spot two months ago. Their latest entry 'In Your Arms' by Michael Woods featuring Lauren Dyson topped the list with 190 points, a healthy 22 points ahead of second place (despite the top 2 being much closer than this throughout almost the entire vote reveal). It's their first win and only their second top 20 finish. Five out of eight winners so far this year have been first time winners (previous ones being Daehun, FARC, N DNTN and of course Persephonia).

Second place with 168 points went to Fljótavík with Karen Harding's 'Say Something' (which was vying to be the nation's 4th winner), third place was N DNTN entry 'Complètement Fou' by Yelle with 156 points and FSR Rontvia came 4th with 150 points for Goldfish's 'Moonwalk Away (Moonlanding Mix)'. These four tracks constituted a top 4 which received a combined total of zero points from Persephonia, a disappointing showing for the home contest. Fifth placed Unovian entry 'What I Live For' by KYA vs. LDN NOISE however received 4 points from us out of its total of 144. Incidentally this was Unovia's first top 10 hit in 20 contests (including one they missed) and their first top 5 hit in 28 contests! Their best performance so far is 3rd place for The Charlies' 'Monsters (Eat Me)' back in BJSC XL.

Three of the newest countries in the contest put in strong top 10 finishes. Ajanaeda, Desbuanda and Republic of Adonia were all on their fourth entries. Ajanaeda failed to qualify with all of their previous 3 but newest entry 'Wonder' by Adventure Club featuring The Kite String Tangle did far better, ultimately finishing 7th. The other two nations qualified in their first contests but neither of the following two. Republic of Adonia's previous qualifier came 7th while Desbuanda's struggled in 30th. The tables were turned this time as Desbuanda's entry, Nothing But Thieves' 'Graveyard Whistling', came 6th while the Republic's 'Say My Name' by ODESZA featuring Zyra came 10th. The top 10 were completed by frequent visitors Daehun (HA:TFELT's 'Ain't Nobody' in 8th) and Trifoski (the Urban Contact remix of 'Help Our Souls' by Nihils in 9th).

Ultraviolenceland were the only country to make their debut in Carellis and didn't manage to make the final. However, two countries made it through a semi-final for the first time, the aforementioned Ajanaeda and Quintessa who had 10 DNQs to their name and one final appearance in the One Big Final contest LXIV. That song came 21st out of 52 so would very likely have qualified through a semi-final anyway but they finally managed to do it legitimately this time with Benjamin Francis Leftwich's 'Snowship' (Thomas Jack Remix) which finished 27th in the final.

Three returning nations made the final - Kathaldazia's entry 'Follow The Step' (Justin Martin Remix) by Rachel Row came 17th, N-Lazone finished 23rd with Colonia's 'Feniks' and Hannah Georgas' 'Enemies' (Cezar Nedelcu Remix) was 28th for FARC, who incidentally also qualified as a returning nation the last time we hosted the semi-finals. Terra di Campioni equalled their peak of 19th place achieved on their debut two months ago with their third entry and third qualifier in a row, Grum's 'Heartbeats'.

Of the Jubirdia and affiliated crop not yet mentioned, #00274E just missed the top 10 a second month in a row, coming 11th with Erkka's 'Plastic Flamingos'; Sandebörg achieved their best result of the year so far with Linda Pritchard's 13th-placed 'Drummer Boy'; Hendinian entry 'If You Let Me Go' by Salt Ashes came 15th; Aeroche couldn't match the top 10 success of their last nine qualifiers with Pixelord's 'DSL Dream Corp' (Curl Up Remix) coming 16th; D'yermak'er were 17th with 'Why Can't I Be You' by Le Kid R.A.B.B.I.I.; Ramrynia came 20th with Shannon Saunders' 'Sheets'; Aquafina managed 21st with Inna's 'Low' despite only barely scraping through the semi-final.

Time for the televote reveal! (Which of course includes both semi-finals this month as we auto-qualified).

Elijah Blake hopes for you all to give us u[r points] in LXIX

Another month another contest and Persephonia are proud to announce our 48th entry is 'Give Me U' by promising new Los Angeles R&B talent Elijah Blake, competing in the first semi-final of BJSC LXIX in Sgarameet, Jamvale. The song is taken from his EP 'Free Pt. I' and features production from the ever incredible Corin Roddick, better known as a member of the band Purity Ring.

Big name production powah powah aside though we hope to win over nations of all kinds, including HOPEFULLY ones that have been in like 30 contests with us and never given us even a single point *cough*, with this song which marks somewhat of a departure from our mostly quite subtle entries this year. It feels like a while since Persephonia had an entry with a chart-ready big chorus ~

Prepare to unleash this beast of a track upon your ears.

Aside, I've just learnt Mr. Blake is also apparently one of the writers of Usher's 'Climax'. *.*

Elijah Blake brings Persephonia to a 10th straight final

As we expected / hoped Elijah Blake's 'Give Me U' has safely made it through to the final of BJSC LXIX in Jamvale. This marks the 10th final in a row that will feature Persephonia's entry, maintaining our record for current qualification streak (still joint with Daehun and N DNTN as they both also qualified again). We're now only one month away from matching our previous 11-final streak which spanned the seven One Big Final contests. It can be done. In the meantime we are tentatively optimistic for Elijah to do a fair bit better than last month - although this won't be very difficult as almost anything is better than last place with barely half the points of second last.

Blake's song was one of five R&B entries this month, and the typically underrated genre did surprisingly well on the whole, with three of the others (Kluminican Republic entry 'XTC' by LIZ, Cadbury entry 'Utopia' by Justine Skye and D'yermak'er entry 'Dancing In The Dark' by Luke James) also qualifying and the fifth (Terra di Campioni entry 'Beautiful' by Mali Music) only just missing out. The urban swag hype is credited to the debut of The Land of the Shamrock who were unfortunate martyrs of the movement, finishing dead last in semi-final 2 with just 3 points.

#endvarakëracism campaign takes another hit

The Persephonian based charity #endvarakëracism is currently in crisis as the underrated nation managed to fail to qualify AGAIN despite actually having a decent amount of hype behind them for latest entry 'White Wine' by Y//2//K feat. Mark Johns. It is understood that they plan to push for Persephonia to impose sanctions on all nations who did not vote for the song. So yeah. You guys watch out.

Persephonian News Bulletin ~ 20/10/2014

Elijah Blake delivers Persephonia another vanilla finish

Pretty much all predictors had it as a midtable obscurity type of song, and pretty much all predictors were right - Elijah Blake's 'Give Me U' finished in 17th place, top of the bottom half and soon to be rapidly forgotten. It's Persephonia's fourth 17th place finish and our 17th (!!1!) top 20 finish, of which only 5 were top 10 finishes, but then four of those 5 were top 3 finishes. Overall: okay.

Elijah pulled in a pretty decent total of 94 points, not quite attracting any 12s but earning 10 points each from returning Cadbury and not returning but still fabulous Cumulonimbia, plus 8 points each from Desbuanda and Syndare. 21 countries in total threw the track at least a point. Things could have gone worse. At least we didn't finish fucking 24th again.

Final results commentary + Persephonia's televote results

There was a runaway winner in Jamvale, as 'I Loved You' by Blonde took an easy victory with 249 points to provide Altyr Muunilinst with their first ever win out of 37 entries. We hesitate to say it's an overdue win but if they had to win this was a pretty good song to do it with and we vaguely look forward to their hosting, even though we fear for our delegation's safety there. Luckily, the vocalist of our likely next entry is in fact dead, so no worries there. (Dark humour).

Anyway, aside from that, the next best any track could do was 187 points for Elëdan's entry 'The Years (Prologue)' by The Midnight in 2nd. Botanikka came third with former Persephonian artist TĀLĀ's 'Alchemy' taking in 178 points. That was hotly tipped as a favourite to win from the start, ultimately falling a fair bit short but still doing quite a lot better than our TĀLĀ track 'Serbia' which came 15th 5 contests back. Espen have had run of poor performance of late but got back on their feet this month, coming 4th with 170 points with 'Heart' by De̊ǰa, their first top 10 hit for 7 contests. N DNTN completed the top 5 with Danny L Harle's 'Broken Flowers' on 166 points.

Oslol got another good finish with Jennifer Davies' 'Lapse Of Time' (James Njie's remix to be precise) coming sixth, their 4th top 10 hit. Kathaldazia picked up their first top 10 hit in FIFTY (!) contests (admittedly including several lengthy hiatuses) with Michael Calfan's 'Prelude'. They were last top 10 with the record breaking winner 'Silly Boy' by Eva Simons in BJSC XIX. Fljótavík and Trifoski have been top 10 considerably more recently, just one month ago to be precise. The former finished 8th this month with the Achtabahn (or 'Problem' as it was for some reason billed) remix of Andreas Moe's 'Ocean'. The latter came 9th with Kero Kero Bonito's 'Sick Beat', an incredible 4th straight top 10 finish. The last slot in the top 10 went to Kluminican Republic with LIZ' 'XTC', their 5th top 10.

The two debuting countries, Land of DW and The Land of the Shamrock, both came dead last in their respective semis (how depressing). Making their debut to a BJSC final this month however were Patvia, whose second entry (after debuting two months ago and being banned last month) 'Wait' by Tom Swoon and Paris & Simo came 25th.

Cadbury made a long awaited return this month after 41 contests of inactivity. Comeback entry 'Utopia' (not to be confused with the country of the same name) by Justine Skye qualified for the final but didn't make a massive impact, finishing 29th. The country formerly known as Kopečka and then Pendulous Republic of Nørk made another comeback with another new name, this time Kärenfanghoney, and finished 16th with E. S. Posthumus' 'Mosane'.

The remaining unmentioned Jubirdia nations: D'yermak'er and Desbuanda lined up just outside the top 10, finishing 11th and 12th with Luke James' 'Dancing In The Dark' and the Unknown Sound edit of Hopium's 'Dreamers' (feat. Phoebe Lou) respectively; Lexico (formerly known as Allecian and briefly Scruvovvnivinovia) finished 15th with their first entry under the new name, 'Gäa' by Oonagh; Dotter's 'My Flower' came 23rd for Aquafina; Aeroche missed the top 10 for a second contest in a row (what's going on?) with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Anna Lunoe coming 24th with 'Feels Like'; Daehun were 27th with 'I LIKE DAT' by color-code; #00274E came 29th with Maluca's 'Trigger'.

Wooden spoon went for the first time ever to Singerpurear. Well, the nation known as a bit of an endearing flop had to pick up that honour eventually (and they achieve it with their third final appearance and second qualification through a semi-final). Latest entry 'Beauty Queen' by April Kry (remixed by Sean Finn) came 32d out of 32 with 39 points, lagging second last by 14 points.

Here are the full results of the Persephonian televote with our patented arbitrary conversion to scores out of 10:
