November 12, 201311 yr Can we not use the promotion excuse? :P They were on pretty much EVERY show possible the week before for Disco Love, and the album would've been plugged then...
November 12, 201311 yr I agree. I still think the best promotion for albums is singles - and 30 days and Gentlemen flopping didn't help. Disco Love needs slightly more longevity and they need to release another moderate hit off it and it will sell a bit better.
November 13, 201311 yr There are two main reasons this album isn't selling: 1) The singles really haven't done well bar What About Us. I mean, two under 100k and one just over 100k is not anything to brag about. 2) Their sound is all over the place. They have completely ditched their original sound and they can't stick to anything, they're flopping back and forth between pure pop, dance, and R&B. They need some cohesion in their material, otherwise they won't reel anyone all the way in.
November 13, 201311 yr Disco Love didn't receive much radio play so no matter how much they sell, it's still not going to make a big impact. I agree about the sound being all over the place, this means it lacks in identity. Disco love, gentleman and 30 days aren't exactly album sellers
November 13, 201311 yr it is all over the place, I agree. But then again, I think every era since chasing lights has lacked cohesion. Chasing lights worked wonders because every song was just pure pop and then they released the winter ballad which did wonders :) If they do release Leave A Light On, I think it would do better than My Heart Takes Over. It's more commercial and sounds like it could really be for everyone. MHTO however is quite a big ballad, almost powerish so only a certain type of buyer would have went for it. On reflection, MHTO really was a bad move. Maybe they should have went with Last Call, It sounds really wintery :) Edited November 13, 201311 yr by jsg2013
November 13, 201311 yr I just hope they actually release another single. Disco Love was released seven weeks ago. If they are releasing something else, then they need to announce it and get a video shot and get it sent to radio before it's release (obviously) and that's usually a 6 - 8 week process in itself.

They might go oa/os with this one I think.
November 13, 201311 yr aremember with Disco Love, they almost had the video shot by the time they announced the single. They might go oa/os with this one I think. But they can't do OA/OS with a song released after an album. The song is already on sale (basically), they just need to send it to radio and promote it so that it can climb up the charts and hit a decent peak.
November 13, 201311 yr My guess is that they'll announce something when Disco Love really starts to plummet. I doubt they thought it would stick around this long, I'm sure they want to milk it as long as they can.
November 13, 201311 yr I wonder if 'Disco Love' and 'What About Us' will get a big effect in the New Year from gift card week? Similarly, I think Rizzle Kicks' 'When I Was A Youngster' was a fairly minor Q4 release which received a big effect back into the top 40. 'What About Us' is surely a given since it went #1? It should return to top 75 at least! Hopefully they release another single alongside this week and reduce their back catalogue to 59p, and reduce their album prices, like Lady Gaga did that week while 'You and I' was out. They could potentially gain A LOT of sales that week!

They only tweeted/facebook'd it once, yesterday morning, and when they did it shot up. Ideally, they need to post/advertise that it's 59p once or twice a day for a few days to keep people aware of the discount. Also, what is gift card week affect? It's the week post-Christmas when there are massive sales surges because people get given iTunes gift cards. Therefore, loads of old hits start to climb up the charts. I think 'All Fired Up' managed to re-enter the chart on this week in 2011/12.

November 13, 201311 yr Ah I see. Maybe it will give them the push they need for their first Gold certificated single. They need to sell another 18.2k, it's probably only selling around 100-200 copies a week atm. It should hopefully then get around 10k on gift card week, it will probably end up being early next year?

Agreed, I can see them doing What About Us for Top of The Pops on Christmas or New Year's, too.
November 13, 201311 yr Trivial fact is that when AFU re-entered on 01/01/12 at #75 it sold 7,999 copies - its highest since it was #22 - and the highest sales for a #75 in history! :o I think WAU will return Top 100 and i'd imagine Disco Love will rebound a few places too. HOPEFULLY they will get on TOTP - Girls Aloud were always on, and the Sats havn't been on since their slutty FOI performance *slutty costumes
November 13, 201311 yr Where did the Leave A Light On performance go? It's been removed everywhere. edit - found it  Edited November 13, 201311 yr by shadow2009
November 14, 201311 yr They need to do something quick to take advantage of the Xmas sales boost. Even if it's only lingering around the bottom end of the top 100, it's better than nothing. If they're going to wait until AFTER the Christmas sales and then release a music video/send a song to radio then they're idiots. Even a price cut or something would be nice. Just ANYTHING!
