Watched the documenrary on BBC4. Great album. Also have the 2000 version too, when he re-did it.

Tubular Bells is still a brilliant album. I've not seen the BBC4 programme yet but I've recorded it. It's a shame Mike Oldfield was never able to come up with something as good but he did set a rather high standard with his debut.

I love Tubular Bells II

Could never really get in to that.

I heard it before TB so I guess it was easiler for me to get into. Weightless is my fave track on it.
love it. Tubular Bells is the only album to hit number one on my singles chart (in 1974) - on the grounds that it was one long piece not a collection of tracks. B-)

That's the reason my mum hates it. :o She says "it all goes on and on and where's the singing?" LOL, she is 87 though! :D

Nah, In Dulce Jubilo, Portsmouth, Blue Peter and William Tell are all great!

I was referring to albums rather than individual tracks. Most of the songs mentioned were good (although he can't claim the credit for writing all of them) but his debut was his best album by some way.

Fully agree. None of his other albums are anywhere near as good. Tubular Bells has sold 19-20 million worrldwide.

Ha, good point - but he definitely put a new spin on them all.

His sister Sally also had a decent voice and was a good songwriter - "Broken Mona Lisa" is my favourite of hers.
