February 20, 201411 yr The sales of the album are so extremely low there's a lot of room for potential sales from every kind of public. First, they should get the 40k people who bought On Your Radar to buy this, and then the 100k who bought Headlines! It can't be that hard if they were already interested in the group once. I thought Headlines! sold 200k? I just think as a group they've lost their more "cool" pop image since Headlines! with their shift to OYR/LFTW based tracks which doesn't appeal to the public anymore (unfortunately).
February 20, 201411 yr They're "cooler" when they're doing songs like All Fired Up, What About Us and Not Giving Up. Those songs are universal and radio friendly. The problem is that whenever they get a hit out of a great song, they always try and experiment with the next release and it f***s everything up. The first album was a success so they tried pop/rock with Forever Is Over, then Ego smashed and they released a midtempo like Missing You, then Higher was a smash so they thought they could get away with OA/OS with Notorious, then All Fired Up was a hit and they flopped with a ballad, 30 Days saved their face a bit, What About Us smashed so they tried something quirky like Gentleman then Disco Love saved face again and now Not Giving Up will probably smash and they'll release a dodgy single after it as usual and f*** everything up. When will they learn the public only want straight up electropop/dance from them?! We don't want any quirky, experimental, dodgy songs! Just stick to what you know best!!
February 20, 201411 yr I agree, they'd never smash if they released Up or Issues these days (as much as I love those songs) Pop was in a different place now than 7 years ago. The dance-pop vibes of All Fired Up, What About Us & Not Giving Up is definitely them at their most marketable at the place music is in at the moment. NGU Radio Mix - 1401 Not Giving Up - EP - 118 - Brits totally overshadowing and longevity in the publicity of the new video.
February 20, 201411 yr I think their move to sexier dance music did alienate a lot of the young girl fans, who then transferred over to other acts such as LM. But then there is defo a market for the dance act. AFU would have been much bigger if it was their comeback single, just like Notorious would have been much bigger had it been released in a standard way - although thats not their fault. Then of course, My Heart Takes Over came along after two huge dance tracks as a pop/rnb love song and it just was ill-timed. I'd say What About Us was the first time they could just get out an all-appealing dance pop anthem, and was hugely benefited by the whole CTS/OM-US-G. Gentleman was a car crash. Disco Love would have been a perfect follow up to WAU, and would have almost certinaly gone top three and sold around 200,000 by now, the fact that almost 6 months after release its still selling shows that. Anyway, I am so excited for this release, I'm not too worried about the single mix pre-order just yet as the release is so far away, but it would be good if they can do something on TV a week or two before the release - like they did with Stepping Out - to nab some extra pre-orders before release week
February 20, 201411 yr They do dancepop well, but their Up's and Higher's are miles ahead in terms of quality. I'd still take those over 'Not Giving Up' any day.
February 20, 201411 yr I think their problem is that they haven't been able to cross over successfuly to a more glamorous, mature image. They tried that with Wordshaker, they had to take a step back with Headlines, then they tried again with On Your Radar/All Fired Up etc. and failed again, then they went for a neutral image for What About Us, and now the problem is that they can't go back to appeal to a young audience anymore because those people have either grown up or are already taken by other girlbands. I feel this right now is the image they've wanted to have as artists for a long time...but their sales simply don't allow it. ---- The Brits will push them down for a while. We'll just have to wait and see. Edited February 20, 201411 yr by DoggySwami
February 20, 201411 yr They're "cooler" when they're doing songs like All Fired Up, What About Us and Not Giving Up. Those songs are universal and radio friendly. I disagree :P Yes AFU, WAU and NGU are cool club sort of tracks, I don't think they capture the magic they had a few years ago (with the exception of WAU, of course). After Headlines! they started going downhill - Headlines and Chasing Lights are pure 100% pop with a few track exceptions. Loads of people loved Ego and Higher even outside of this fandom. I love On Your Radar but OYR was what Mollie describes as dance floor music and I think as it has been mentioned that alienated alot of people (as reflected in the dire sale comparisons). More radio friendly is debatable for NGU as we will see what the radios response is soon enough! I think their move to sexier dance music did alienate a lot of the young girl fans Completely agree - I miss the simplicity of the pop from chasing lights and headlines :( but their Up's and Higher's are miles ahead in terms of quality. I'd still take those over 'Not Giving Up' any day. Agreed, I just think they have surpassed the era of up/higher and we won't be seeing any of these type of tracks again unfortunately :(
February 20, 201411 yr ... but 'Disco love' is more pop than Higher... Which is why it's one of their best singles. 01. Up 02. Disco Love 03. Higher the rest. :puke2: Forever Is Over
February 20, 201411 yr Not Giving Up EP 97  According to Kworb, although I think it might not be up to date. Can't believe how well this is maintaining regardless. Edited February 20, 201411 yr by LoveKiller
February 20, 201411 yr The EP is #118 which is rather impressive - it's a great shame that the video only managed 100,000 views in 24 hours. 332. Disco Love 927. What About Us 1136. What About Us 'Not Giving Up' radio mix is not top 1500.
February 20, 201411 yr #flopping hahahahhaah jokes Not Giving Up - EP #94 Cyprus #97 United Kingdom #104 Spain #170 Panama Living For the Weekend #269 United Kingdom
February 20, 201411 yr ... but 'Disco love' is more pop than Higher... Oh completely! Disco Love is more cheesey pop though whereas Higher is quite catchy with good lyrics!
February 20, 201411 yr They're different classes of pop I guess. Oh are Capital playing this? I really wanna tune in to try and catch it
February 20, 201411 yr Not Giving Up is pop too, though? Only it's dance pop, just as Higher is electro-pop and Disco Love is cheesy pop. People need to not. They release great music and that's it lol.
February 22, 201411 yr i love Up and Higher!, but i don't like Notoriousallfiredup30dayswhataboutusnotgivingup
February 22, 201411 yr i love Up and Higher!, but i don't like Notoriousallfiredup30dayswhataboutusnotgivingup I feel so sorry for you. :( I mean, obviously for the lack of great (or any, really) taste. :( But also because you feel like losing your time doing such things as your signature. :( Here have some Frankie swaping away all of your shade. http://25.media.tumblr.com/ec5f88ba39e84a1c8254dc52b7aa5cef/tumblr_mzxlsrmfz91qh3qcmo1_500.gif
