Google Chrome says anthemecism isn't a word :( I can't decide if this or Driftwood is better. Whichever it is they're both better than Why Does it Always Rain on Me? which I've always found overrated. Top 3 20/11/1999 1 - Turn - Travis 2 - Swastika Eyes - Primal Scream 3 - Out of Control - The Chemical Brothers
May 31, 201411 yr Author 5KFIr4SlRGg 27/11/1999 Blur - No Distance Left to Run 3 Weeks Blur were amazing at sad songs. One of their best sad songs, No Distance Left To Run was the pick of the three singles taken from 13 - it should really have been Trim Trabb which would have been a worthy single of the year. Coffee + TV was good (I killed it by overplaying). I never liked Tender. This is heartbreaking. Top 3s 27/11/1999 1 - No Distance Left to Run - Blur 2 - Turn - Travis 3 - Swastika Eyes - Primal Scream 04/12/1999 1 - No Distance Left to Run - Blur 2 - Turn - Travis 3 - Swastika Eyes - Primal Scream 11/12/1999 1 - No Distance Left to Run - Blur 2 - Turn - Travis 3 - Northern Star - Mel C
May 31, 201411 yr Author XZW9g1vUR7Y 18/12/1999 The Charlatans - My Beautiful Friend 3 Weeks And now at the end of my favourite decade for music we have a band that thus far never troubled this chart very much. This is is my favourite Charlatans song by far. It has a snaking guitar line that hooked me instantly. Perhaps an unremarkable song to end the decade on but that's the way it is. Top 3s 18/12/1999 1 - My Beautiful Friend - The Charlatans 2 - No Distance Left to Run - Blur 3 - Adagio for Strings - William Orbit 25/12/1999 1 - My Beautiful Friend - The Charlatans 2 - Adagio for Strings - William Orbit 3 - No Distance Left to Run - Blur 01/01/2000 1 - My Beautiful Friend - The Charlatans 2 - Adagio for Strings - William Orbit 3 - Re-rewind - Artful Dodger
May 31, 201411 yr Author I like all of those, Alex, except Womanizer. Which I really hate. You're welcome. I enjoyed doing it. Thanks for commenting, thanks also to Doctor Blind, Dandy*, SKOB, Sinner, Mattias and others who commented. It made it easier to carry on. I think I'll be doing a 00s one but I only have Musicweek scans up to the end of 2007 so I'm not sure how complete 2008 or 2009 would be. I'll probably forget lots of good stuff from those years Edited May 31, 201411 yr by AnthonyT
May 31, 201411 yr I never liked Tender. Surprising! The singles from 13 were very strong, never really got into the whole album which is a bit shame.

May 31, 201411 yr "Out Of Control" LOVE it - there are so many great parts to that track and the Chemical Brothers are one of the few artists that I have loved all the way from when I was a teenager in the late 90s/early 2000s through to the current day. They've had two number 1s on my personal chart since I started it in late 1999; "Star Guitar" and "Galvanize". Thanks for sharing with us Tony, it has been a fascinating trip down memory lane for me (and I'm sure others). Would love to see you do a 2000s one (so I can compare your taste with my actual chart of the time) though from 2006 onwards it gets a bit difficult because many of the best songs didn't actually make the T75 and when downloads come in 2007 I found a huge decrease in % of songs that I was charting concurrently with UK Top 75 hits. These days it is rare to have more than 2 T75 hits in my chart at the same time. :( Also, I did expect you to put "Adagio for Strings" as your last #1 - it was held off #1 for me by Len's "Steal My Sunshine" (my first ever #1).

Aye. All I need is about 6 or 7 songs per month to keep my Top 3s going. You may not have heard the last of Adagio for Strings. :D
