January 2, 201411 yr Love "No Good (Start The Dance)" - definitely one of my favourite dance tracks of the 90s. Excellent.

Whereever James summons up the taut, angry, twisted post-punk barrage of fury from after the somewhat funky Gold Against the Soul, who knows? As a taster for the intimidatingly grim Holy Bible album it could not have done a better job. Richie's lyrics spoke of high-brow intelligentsia among whom he placed himself. Every second of this is essential to my life. A very, very underrated song from Milla Jovovich could never stand a chance of dislodge Faster. It should have been huge. 6 Weeks 12/06/1994 1 - Faster- Manic Street Preachers 2 - No Good (Start the Dance) - The Prodigy 3 - Past the Mission - Tori Amos 19/06/1994 1 - Faster- Manic Street Preachers 2 - No Good (Start the Dance) - The Prodigy 3 - Gentleman Who Fell - Milla Jovovich 26/06/1994 1 - Faster- Manic Street Preachers 2 - Gentleman Who Fell - Milla Jovovich 3 - No Good (Start the Dance) - The Prodigy 03/07/1994 1 - Faster- Manic Street Preachers 2 - Gentleman Who Fell - Milla Jovovich 3 - No Good (Start the Dance) - The Prodigy 10/07/1994 1 - Faster- Manic Street Preachers 2 - 7 Seconds Yousu N'Dour and Neneh Cherry 3 - Gentleman Who Fell - Milla Jovovich 17/07/1994 1 - Faster- Manic Street Preachers 2 - 7 Seconds Yousu N'Dour and Neneh Cherry 3 - Gentleman Who Fell - Milla Jovovich Edited January 2, 201411 yr by AnthonyT

January 3, 201411 yr I absolutely adore Regulate, especially the single version with the full sample based chorus. It was the first record I can remember where a rap/r&b act used a sample so blatantly and to such good effect - although at the time I had no idea how heavily it relied upon the sample.
January 3, 201411 yr Author I'm not sure which version you mean, Dandy* - if you could post it we'd all be very grateful. :P
January 3, 201411 yr Oh! It was the main version on the single, this one with the Michael McDonald chorus sample from I Keep Forgettin': sVDDVjHUZ-Q It was definitely the one they used to play on the radio at the time too, for some reason it's never played these days and never appears on download sites etc.

It's the only Oasis that I think is great - they do have a few other good ones, though. It's mostly down to the final minute of guitar work from Noel but the preceding song is supreme indie-rock with a kicking melody. Liam's voice was at it's sneering peak too. Sounded far more like The La's than The Beatles. 5 Weeks 21/08/1994 1 - Live Forever - Oasis 2 - Revol - Manic Street Preachers 3 - Right Beside You - Sophie B Hawkins 28/08/1994 1 - Live Forever - Oasis 2 - Revol - Manic Street Preachers 3 - Right Beside You - Sophie B Hawkins 04/09/1994 1 - Live Forever - Oasis 2 - Revol - Manic Street Preachers 3 - Right Beside You - Sophie B Hawkins 11/09/1994 1 - Live Forever - Oasis 2 - Stay ( I missed You) - Lisa Loeb 3 - Revol - Manic Street Preachers 18/08/1994 1 - Live Forever - Oasis 2 - Confide in Me Kylie Minogue 3 - Stay ( I missed You) - Lisa Loeb Edited January 5, 201411 yr by AnthonyT

Also - how the hell as it become a hit? These are some of the questions I was asking myself when Confide in Me entered the official UK charts at number 2. Vaguely eastern and exotic - some said it had an air of Justify My Love about it, which is true. I kinda liked Take It Back which sounded like U2 with a much better singer but High Hopes was in another league. A typical Floyd structure, I guess, with a magnificent chord progression and sky-scraping solo. Sparks wonderful comeback single was kept in check. January 4, 201411 yr Author Dr Blinds hopes failed to come to fruition in 1994. Dandy*'s were spot on. Do they fancy their chances in 1995? A surprise number 1 in 1995 and a few songs that any will have forgotten about. Predictions?
January 5, 201411 yr Dr Blinds hopes failed to come to fruition in 1994. :( Love "Live Forever" and "Confide In Me" - I played both at the nineties night. Completely forgot about some of these classics, and Erasure is nice enough, I have the Top 40 on tape from the week that "I Love Saturday" re-entered the Top 40 at #40 and I remember liking it at the time. As for 1995, well this is one of my favourite years for the chart in the 90s. I am hoping that Underworld "Born Slippy" (a flop in '95, but re-issued in '96) has made it, along with Pulp's "Common People", Blur's "The Universal", Grace's "Not Over Yet", Everything But The Girls' "Missing", Massive Attack's "Protection", Scarlet's "Independent Love Song" and maybe N-Trance's re-issue of "Set You Free" and New Order's "Nineteen63"... Added to that are Beth Gibbon's tortured vocals, some alternative guitar and nicely reverbed percussion and you have a trip-hop song that got the interest of the mainstream triggering interest in their album Dummy which would do much better in 1995 than 1994. 1 Week 15/01/1995 1 - Glorybox - Portishead 2 - Set Me Free - N-Trance 3 - I Love Saturday - Erasure Edited January 25, 201411 yr by AnthonyT
