Posted October 28, 201311 yr EUPHORIQUE, give me some TV to watch. None of the Brazilian imports. I need to practice my (European) Portuguese. I know of 'Morangos com Açúcar' but it's so hard to find it online (with subs!) :( THANK U
October 28, 201311 yr You're in Portugal? I cant think of any portuguese program with english subs for you to see. Its also hard for you to learn because foreign shows are not dubbed, they have portuguese subs (some say its why we speak better english than other latino countries haha) I think the best might be watching the news, or portuguese soaps, but I dont know if you'll find subs for those. By the way about 95% of the stuff you hear is based on the Lisbon accent, which is where most tv productions come from ;)
October 28, 201311 yr Author Nah I'm not in Portugal (but I'd love to go there one day). I started learning Portuguese and just would've loved to get used to that INSANELY FAST SPEECH. (But I guess I said the same thing about Danish at first so)
October 28, 201311 yr I quite like Portuguese as a language and the pronunciation/speed is fairly easy to get to grip with if you've ever done Spanish/Italian before.
October 28, 201311 yr The pronunciation is quite different to spanish and italian, at least european portuguese. I'd say its more similar to french soundwise. Pavel, I think maybe watching the news, if you have some portuguese channel on cable, might be a good start.
October 28, 201311 yr Author I know Spanish to a certain degree but Portuguese is SO different, but with very similar vocabulary (at least one advantage here haha!). Although I LOVE how things like até amanhã and hasta mañana sound so similar yet incomparable at the same time. I'm afraid I don't have Portuguese channels :( (We have French news channel though wot) And the shitty thing is that most official channels can never be accessed online from another country.
October 28, 201311 yr Yeah I dont know if I can help you much, there is a lot of stuff online, but not with subs :(
October 28, 201311 yr Vocab is the one I meant when it came to Spanish. I found Portuguese/Spanish/Italian to be the most similar in the way you speak them. There is that rhythm that flows through them when you speak them. It's like the Scandi-trio of excellence. French is evil.
October 29, 201311 yr Maybe just recommend some interesting TV shows without subs? I've gotta tell you, I dont watch a lot of portuguese tv at all besides the news, I like my american series. Do you like soaps and stuff? There are a lot of them online. One thing you can try is listening to songs in portuguese with the lyrics on youtube. Sung portuguese is usually slower and easier to keep track off - maybe some eurovision entries would be a start
