I think it's a very strong single, with regards to the radio airplay it mostly came from Radio 2 and it's well known listeners of that station don't download/buy singles.

I have found a lot of regular people have been completely unaware she even has an album out though, like when I've told people I'm going to see her the response from some people has been "is she even still going?", "when did she last release anything?" etc.

Kylie may have performed on big shows like The Voice and Graham Norton but it's been managed badly. Any hype for new Kylie music died by the time the single and album were released so any big promotion didn't have a lasting effect.
I don't know what could have been the lead single apart from Into the blue. Yh, the pre-release promo is crap. It started too early in the year which is why releasing it in mid-year would've been far better.

You said that before, but I don't honestly understand what difference it would have made?

Presumably there'll be more music awards show for her to perform before the lead single being released and the public would've over with hangover from the music of last year. Dropping a single in Jan, releasing it in mid-March and purely reliance on promoting it through social media is not a great way to launch the album... Plus, sales tend to be greater as the year passes. It's a general observation though.

I think there are a number of factors which have impacted on the failure of into the blue;

* single version being deleted from iTunes (it never fully recovered after it was deleted)

* dull/uninspiring video

* expensive CD single containing pretty dull remixes and no b side

* weak promotion schedule prior to release of the single

I'm afraid to say it but Kylie's age is also a factor too. Its much harder for someone her age to continue her success and its only going to get harder but with a killer single and the right promotion I think she can still have a reasonable hit.

I agree in part slowdown73, the promo and marketing of the single was all over the place, had it all tied together with the promotion i think it would have made the top 10 but im not sure if it would have sold a huge amount more.

While i hate to say it, the big problem is Into the Blue is forgettable, for us Kylie fans we remember it because we like Kylie but if i wasnt a Kylie fan it wouldnt grab me. I think its the same for the Kiss me Once album, while i really like Les Sex it still isnt screaming huge hit. I think thats the problem with aphrodite and kiss me once is they lack killer singles apart from all the lovers.

In part, body language suffered in the same way and in stark contrast fever and light years were full of single material. I think Kylie needs to focus on getting strong singles for her albums, its more important than ever, yes age is against her but she is a young 45, looks good and can still grab much attention so she needs to get the right material to promote.

I have partly giving up on the Kiss me Once era as the album really doesnt do much for me and I was gonna cancel is nothing short of bloody awful and i will be totally shocked if it makes anything more than top 40.

While aphrodite lacked killer singles i really enjoyed it as an album but Kiss Me Once i find is a chore to listen to and i think like km94 it will be filed away in the collection not bothering my cd player too often. This is partly my own fault, i admit i had decided Kylie was gonna release a full on pop album and when she didnt i automatically went into dislike mode, while some will argue Kiss me once is a pop album i have to disagree, i dont know what genre it is to be honest but it is not the pop i like from Kylie. Roll on album 13 :wacko:

Poor marketing and promotion will always negatively impact outcomes. The marketing team and promotional organisers behind this campaign need a kick up their arse as to date it is extremely poor. How the campaign will unfold from here on in is unknown but judging by how it has been handled so far i am not full hope.

Into The Blue, while not Ms Minogue's strongest single was good and did have Kylie stamped all over it. Soundwise it was not standout out enough to compete with the big weights currently in the chart that she was competing with.

I don't think Into the blue is forgettable. Its the best song on KMO but its not one of her strongest releases. I agree KMO is a poor album and certainly lacks singles potential but for me Aphrodite was alot stronger and certainly contained hit potential but the record company released the wrong tracks apart from ATL. KMO will be lucky to shift 100k, its already out of the top40 albums this week and can't see I was gonna cancel doing much to help it.

I know we'll never know now but seriously nothing else would have done any better than 'Get Outta My Way' as the second single from the last album. All The Lovers, that and the title track Aphrodite were the only real hit potential singles as solid as the album was.

Kiss Me Once isn't as good though, if anything the album has made me appreciate Aphrodite more.

Aphrodite was piss weak. KMO is so much stronger in every respect, especially songwriting and production.
Aphrodite was solid, not nearly as good as X but good at the same time and much better than Kiss Me Once. Maybe in time, Kiss me Once will sound better. X was far from instant with me, 2 hearts made me very cautious of the album but through time i fell in love with X and enjoy many tracks immensely.

Aphrodite has not aged that well, KMO is indeed much stronger. The songs stand out more than those on Aphrodite.
Both X and Kiss me once are weak albums overall but difference being X did include some strong songs which would have made good singles, whereas Kiss me once lacks that.

Was lucky last week - falls to #200. Its chart run in full: 12-31-42-39-62-116-200. Total: 58.5k.

Even 'Timebomb' spent longer in the chart!
