EMINEM & RIHANNA

1) So - 'The Monster' is Eminem's 8th UK No.1 Single, & also Rihanna's 8th.

2) Looking at the Pre-The Monster, UK Chart Stats of Eminem & Rihanna, I see that

their Weeks at No.1 were 30 each, but they were made in a 'Mirror Image' of each other.

A) EMINEM - 7 Singles Weeks at No.1, & 23 Albums Weeks at No.1

B) RIHANNA - 23 Singles Weeks at No.1, & 7 Albums Weeks at No.1.

The Totals were from:,

A) EMINEM - 7 No.1 Singles, & 6 No.1 Albums

B) RIHANNA - 7 No.1 Singles, & 4 No.1 Albums

C) The Monster now gives them 31 UK No.1 Weeks each.

3) Eminem has yet to be No.1 in the UK Singles & Albums Charts at the same

time. His New Album will be No.1 next Week - the W/E 16th November Chart.

If he is to manage his 1st Double Top, he has to remain at No.1 for a 2nd Week

in the Singles Chart. Something that none of his previous 7 UK No.1 Singles

managed to do.

4) Next Week he will have his 7th UK No.1 Album, & all 7 have been consecutive.

This means that he will join The Beatles in 3rd= place, as regards that Chart Feat.

Led Zeppelin & ABBA are 1st= - with 8 No.1 Albums in a row. Led Zeppelin from

1970 to 1979, & ABBA from 1976 to 1982. With the 2 Acts being connected by a

coincidence. The 8th UK No.1 Album in a row for Led Zeppelin, was recorded at

ABBA's Polar Recording Studios, in Sweden, from November to December 1978.

It was their In Through The Out Door Album.

So Eminem and Rihanna concurrently getting their 8th #1, 25th top 10 hit and 31st week at #1 (across both charts) - lots of coincidences there.

Obligatory correction - the featured artist on 'Children Of The Sun' is John Martin, not John Newman (though the details of Martin's chart history are correct :P)

I don't really quite understand the cries of chart manipulation at record labels being able to nominate an instant grat - if they'd just released all the songs as singles and kept them like that then all of them would be charting, that seems closer to 'manipulation' than Eminem's current situation.

Impressive wandering off-topic in the first Arcade Fire paragraph there by the way

...and also both getting their 21st top 5 hit too! :)

You were beaten to it with the Martin / Newman correction :P

On the face of it the instant grat rule is reasonable. It's the idea of releasing one track per week in the lead-up to the release of the album I don't like. Thatt's almost like allowing people to pay for an album in instalments with a bonus (for the record company) that it results in several new hit singles. It's made even worse if most of them then have to be disqualified temporarily because of an instant grat.

I did stray somewhat off-piste in the Arcade Fire bit

All these Rihanna / Eminem coincidences are rather spooky really, particularly in Hallowe'en week.

Especially as the song is called 'The Monster' :P

Kind of reminds me of BJSC a few months ago when Ghosty was hosting, Ghost Loft won and a song called 'Ghostcity' won one of the semis. Would have been better if that happened in October.

I completely forgot about the Rihanna Chart Feat that I thought of on Friday.

(I re-checked it about 6 times, to be sure I was right).

Here it is:,

RIHANNA - ONLY THE THIRD UK SINGLES CHART ACT TO ACHIEVE THIS

The OCC have picked up on this one, & Rihanna has now added it to her Twitter

Account. She's Tweeting' it - if that is the right word!

Rihanna has now had UK No.1 Singles for 7 Years in a row. She is only the

3rd Act to manage that, since November 1952, when the Singles Chart began.

A) Elvis Presley - 7 Years of UK No.1 Singles in a row - 1957 to 1963

B) The Beatles - 7 Years of UK No.1 Singles in a row - 1963 to 1969

C) Rihanna - 7 Years of UK No.1 Singles in a row - 2007 to 2013

NOTE - Elvis had 14 UK No.1 Hits in his 7 consecutive Years, The Beatles had 17,

& Rihanna has had 8 - as she had 2 in 2010.

Plus, Rihanna has overtaken Kylie Minogue to have the second most number ones for a female soloist (after Madonna, obvs.).
