It'll be X Factor, as always!!

I guess Simon Cowell's little repentant act after Joe McElderry got beaten to the no.1 spot, about ho he'd never meant to take over the Xmas charts and that X Factor would avoid the date, didn't last long.

Boring!

As always? It hasn't been the last two years

Because there were two big charity singles in the last two years which he thought he'd have no hope of beating (although bizarrely James Arthur sold a huge amount last year IIRC and would have beaten the Hillsborough charity single).

I hope X Factor doesn't get another Christmas number one, but I can't see anything obvious that could do it instead as I've enjoyed the last 3 years with no Cowell creation getting to number one

You make it sound like there's been nothing Cowell related, ie. not just X Factor winning singles at Xmas, at #1 in three years. :P

That may account for last year, but the year before the X-Factor single release date was set long before the Military Wives' single was put on the schedule.

The X Factor single release date is always set well in advance is it not? It has to coincide with the end of the series and I would assume they plan when the series ends well ahead of time.
To be honest I've stopped caring. Bar a brief bit of excitement in the Rage year it hasn't mattered for a decade.

ITV set their schedule months in advance so this has nothing to do with it.

So do music release schedules, funnily enough.. so yes it does!

Some do, some spring up from nowhere - e..g The Military Wives' single. That wasn't even scheduled to be a single until the second half of November 2011

It was performed live in the first half of November 2011, so I'm sure it was planned much before then.

I would have thought that when they pulled the X Factor final forward a week for a couple years ITV weren't 100% happy about doing it and there would have been arguments between them and SyCo. It's better to have that extra week of pre-Christmas ad money surely. I imagine SyCo are feeling more confident about getting the #1 this year after James did so well last year - I think it being a charity single really helps.
No,"Wherever You Are" was first performed publicly at the Festival Of Rememberance, and that was due to be that. Then Chris Evans picked up on it, and it was then decided to produce a single and release it.

Ha! I hate online campaigns and don't buy because they tell me to...but I'll be very happy to see Altern 8 back in the top 40.
Whatever happens, it's a done deal that the X Factor winner will top the festive chart this year.
I know none of the other contenders haven't really got any momentum behind them, some could get to the top 40!
