Posted November 29, 201311 yr Anyone love this classic album as much as I do? Just bought last year's re-mastered version for a fiver from Amazon and whilst still mono it sounds much clearer than my previous CD. It's now called A Christmas Gift For You From Phil Spector. Came with another CD of Phil's classic hits too so well worth getting if you don't have it or want better quality. :) Released 22 Nov. '63, the day Kennedy was assassinated, it was withdrawn from sale as a mark of respect and due to poor sales. Americans didn't feel very Christmassy that year! Those original vinyl versions on the Philles label are worth hundreds of pounds now in mint condition. Considered by many to be the best Christmas album ever. Despite Spector being jailed until he's at least 88, tracks are still played on radio around the world in the run up to Christmas. Edited November 29, 201311 yr by Common Sense
November 29, 201311 yr LOVE this album so so much. Probably my favourite Christmas album. Nothing can match the pure enthusiasm of the Santa Claus Is Coming To Town version.
November 29, 201311 yr I find it rather double standard-ish, considering the man's in jail for murder. Personally I see no difference in comparison to Gary Glitter. Though there won't be any advertising for GG's box sets.

Though there won't be any advertising for GG's box sets. It does appear to be a double standard. I suppose the difference is that Glitter's offences were more directly related to his celebrity status than Spector's. That would have been put to the test if Michael Jackson had ever been found guilty.

Seems to be considered by many as being worse even than killing someone.

November 29, 201311 yr It's a great album and spector was a musical genius. I prefer to separate 60s musician from old murderer. Don't hear any complaints about singing greensleeves and the alleged writer chopped 2 wives heads off.. Edited November 29, 201311 yr by popchartfreak

December 31, 201311 yr Didn't this album get a new lease of life in 1972 when it changed label then it's success started the boom in British Xmas pop afterwards?
January 2, 201411 yr Yes I agree. I'd love to hear Another Rock And Roll Christmas on the radio every December. They played it on radio 2 the other week, (well sort of) Pick Of The Pops 1989 Jive Bunny was no.1 and there is a segment of it in that
January 3, 201411 yr Why was it played when they were talking about the 1989 chart? On Pick Of The Pops they countdown the top 20 from this week back in a particular year, aand on this particular week it was 1989 and Jive Bunny Lets Party was no.1

B-)
January 21, 201411 yr LOVE this album so so much. Probably my favourite Christmas album. Nothing can match the pure enthusiasm of the Santa Claus Is Coming To Town version. that's the reason i baught it such a lovely version of that song but the whole album is totally underrated- does not get the credit it deserves
