04 Lady Gaga - ARTPOP

Highlights: Applause, Gypsy, Do What U Want (ft. R Kelly), Dope, G.U.Y.

Her 2011 album Born This Way easily topped this chart in 2011, but (ch)ARTPOP only manages fourth :o Hyped up to the max (as is always the case with Lady Gaga), the lead single Applause disappointed many people but is in fact among my favourites on the album, along with Marry The Night and Americano's lovechild Gypsy <3 For all her comments of this being really unique or arty, the result is fairly basic and generic - but in my eyes that can also be a good thing. You can't go wrong with a plain old pop song a lot of the time, or indeed a R&B tinged duet with R Kelly, or a full on ABBA style pop song like Venus.

03 Katy Perry - Prism

Highlights: Roar, Dark Horse, Unconditionally, By The Grace Of God, Walking On Air

Very narrowly out of the top 2 is another of my favourite artists! The mammoth Teenage Dream era was what really catapaulted Katy to stardom, and astounded me (and probably many others) given that I remember passing her off as a one hit wonder when I Kissed A Girl came out. The lead single of this era, Roar, cemented Katy's place as at least a princess in the hierachy of the pop jungle, and gave her an umpteenth worldwide hit. Despite not quite being the dark album we were promised, Prism is still a spectrum of emotions which has everything from the celebratory Birthday, to Unconditionally's unwavering love, to Walking On Air's soaring and euphoric chorus.

So that leaves the (probably rather obvious!) top 2 to be revealed later... :o

02 Jessica Mauboy - Beautiful

Highlights: Kick Up Your Heels (ft. Pitbull), Pop A Bottle (Fill Me Up), To The End Of The Earth, Beautiful, Kiss Me Hello

Narrowly missing out on topping 2013 album wise is perennially underrated Australian pop princess Jessica Mauboy! Since appearing on Australian Idol in 2007 as a 17 year old, Jessica has released 3 albums and starred in a film with odd crush extraordinnaire Chris O'Dowd, and her third album is the pinnacle of her career thus far. First single To The End Of The Earth was dancier than her previous efforts, but the album is a mix of typical Jessica pop/R&B and evidence of dabbling in new sounds. Highlight Kick Up Your Heels, a Doop! style Charleston influenced song that brings the 1920s right into 2013 even manages to be an 11/10 masterpiece despite Pitbull being on it! Good work with that alone I say Jessica...

and so with no surprise to anyone...

01 Demi Lovato - Demi

Highlights: Heart Attack, Really Don't Care, Made In The USA, Shouldn't Come Back, Warrior

OF COURSE. Queen Demetria Devonne Lovato of Music and Life (have to use her full title now don't we?) slays all and grabs the prestigious position atop Liam's top albums of 2013 list! Unbroken is still her pinnacle, but this comes pretty damn close - and covers everything from shouty indifference to heartfelt reflections. There is perfect pop track after perfect pop track on this, and there is SO much potential in the way of hits if Hollywood Records played it right... But of course they haven't/won't :( Heart Attack, which as you all know will be a major contender for my song of 2013, is definitely the highlight but pretty much everything is worth a listen (with Never Been Hurt being the only 'dud', if you count 7.5/10 as a dud). Perfection.

AND a special mention to Beyoncé - Beyoncé, which would have been at least #2 here if not #1 if she'd just dropped the bomb a couple of weeks earlier!

Expected no less for Demi here. A fair few highlights that i still love ('Without The Love' has randomly become my favourite off the album now). YAY for 'ARTPOP' too <3

UGH had the same problem with Beyoncé. And now is it eligible for 2014 album countdowns!?1!?

I'll be having it in my 2014 one :P

----

Before we get started on the singles, here are the last few songs to unfortunately be cut from my top 75:

Bastille - Pompeii

Britney Spears - Work Bitch

Cascada - Glorious

Dami Im - Roar

Erik Segerstedt & Tone Damli - Hello Goodbye

Girls' Generation - I Got A Boy

Iggy Azalea ft. T.I. - Change Your Life

Jessie Ware - Imagine It Was Us

Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me

One Direction - Kiss You

Tinie Tempah ft. 2Chainz - Trampoline

Selena Gomez - Slow Down

And because I love a geographical breakdown/some tidbits...

33 songs are from the US

20 are from the UK

7 are from Australia

3 are from Norway

2 each are from New Zealand and Sweden

And there's 1 song each from Canada, Netherlands, Denmark and Barbados

(Based on leading artists, and that totally doesn't add up to 75 I bet, oh well!)

There are 10 UK #1s and 7 US #1s

17 of these songs didn't chart in the UK - the highest being at #6 here

13 songs are predominantly by males, meaning 62 are predominantly by females

61 Iggy Azalea - Bounce

62 Tone Damli - Smash

63 Disclosure ft. Eliza Doolittle You & Me

64 One Direction - Best Thing Ever

65 Robin Thicke ft. T.I. & Pharrell - Blurred Lines

66 Demi Lovato - Heart By Heart

67 MKS - Flatline

68 Misha B - Here's To Everything (Ooh La La)

69 Samantha Jade - Firestarter

70 Macklemore - Thrift Shop

71 Little Mix ft. Missy Elliott - How Ya Doin'?

72 Ylvis - The Fox

73 Classified ft. Olly Murs - Inner Ninja

74 Iggy Azalea - Work

75 The Band Perry - DONE.

Kicking things off for us with a country bang is The Band Perry, with their angry break-up song DONE. scraping into the the top 75. Little Mix grab the first of three entries with the final single from their debut album DNA, How Ya Doin'?, whilst dream man Olly Murs takes his feature on Classified's Inner Ninja to the dizzy heights of #73. Iggy Azalea has two entries out of two in the lower echelons of the top 75. Notably, two of the biggest songs of the year in the UK fall here - but are still high in my affections hence their placings on this list!

Love seeing 'Here's to Everything' in these countdowns. Always think it's forgotten but it's still such an incredible song and glad others agree. Need an album from her now :/

YAY for double Iggy too

She really should have big :( Not sure we'll ever get that album tbh.

"You & Me" and "DONE." are fab :heart-old:

Indeed they are <3

51 Jessie J - Wild

52 Taylor Swift - 22

53 Justin Timberlake - Mirrors

54 Lily Allen - Hard Out Here

55 Miranda Lambert - All Kinds Of Kinds

56 Duke Dumont ft. A*M*E* - Need U (100%)

57 James Arthur - You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You

58 Carrie Underwood - Two Black Cadillacs

59 Paramore - Still Into You

60 Disclosure ft. AlunaGeorge- White Noise

This section houses everything from parodical $l*t pop to house to country, as we move from 60 to 51. The sexiest ex-boyband member turned actor on the planet, Justin Timberlake, makes his first and only appearance with his transatlantic #1 smash Mirrors, whilst country queens Carrie and Miranda both have the first of their two appearances. We lose three of the UK #1 hits in the countdown too in this section - bye James Arthur, Duke Dumont and JT!

41 Dami Im - One

42 Ciara ft. nicki Minaj - I'm Out

43 Sharon Doorson - Killer

44 Emmelie De Forrest - Only Teardrops

45 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Mary Lambert - Same Love

46 Ariana Grande ft. Mac Miller - The Way

47 Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love

48 Lorde - Tennis Court

49 Rita Ora - Radioactive

50 The Saturdays- Gentleman

Less big hits in this section, but even more fabulousness! Gay anthem Same Love, a 3rd top 10 for Macklemore, Eurovision winner Only Teardrops and top 20 flop Gentleman inject some fab into this group of 10, with Aussie X-Factor winner Dami Im's U2 cover heading up the pack that just missed the big top 40.

40 Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop

Kicking off the top 40 is arguably the biggest star this year - certainly the most controversial. Not content with being America's teen sweetheart and alternating between being Hannah Montana and releasing kick ass pop like Party In The USA, Miley returned to the pop world with a bang, short hair and a new twerking obsession. This threw the world into disarray, but I adore her now as I always have <3 More to come on Milegend later.

39 Rebecca Ferguson - I Hope

The rightful winner of X-Factor 2010 :smoke: Perhaps the most credible X-Factor artist kicked off her second album campaign with a gorgeous smoky and soulful track which was even more radio ready than what was on her debut, and gained another top 20 hit. Her best single yet!

38 Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree

The lowest of Kelly's three entries here is the one that's most appropriate for now! An instant modern Christmas classic, this has only just scraped top 40 in the UK but is the highlight of Kelly's Christmas album and one of the highlights of Christmas in general <3

37 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton - Can't Hold Us

The highest of the three entries for the hottest rapper right now is the stomping Can't Hold Us! A huge hit in the UK and US charts, Ray Dalton's soulful chorus and Macklemore's flow make for an unhateable, catchy current hit.

36 Jessica Mauboy - Something's Got A Hold On Me

The first of three entries for the Aussie pop princess is a fabulous dance-pop cover of an Etta James classic. Doing a much better job at bringing it into the 21st century than Flo Rida did, this non album single was an Australian football anthem and bridged the gap between Galaxy, the last single from Jessica's second album, and To The End Of The Earth, the first single from her third.

Nope :P but at least he made it.

35 Lorde - Royals

Despite being a c**t of the highest order at just 16, this was a transatlantic number 1 for the kiwi teenager and it is undeniably bloody brilliant. So slick and so smooth, lyrically great and just altogether a smash, definitely a highlight of the album.

34 Demi Lovato - Let It Go

Demi's second soundtrack single in this countdown and third highest entry this year is Let It Go from the Disney movie Frozen! Sung by Idina Menzel of Broadway and Rachel Berry's mother in Glee during the film, Demi's version has been used to promote the film and is also played during the credits. A lovely song with all different emotions, made incredible by Demi's vocals.

33 Mariah Carey ft. Miguel - #Beautiful

A definite return to form for Mariah, this Miguel assisted track might have missed the UK top 20 but gave Mariah her first proper hit in years with a lengthy run. After the rather misguided Triumphant, it seems what Mariah needed was a smooth and soulful duet!

32 Lily Allen - Somewhere Only We Know

After 4 years away, Lily hit us with a double treat late this year. The $l*t pop parody Hard Out Here has already been and gone here, but her Christmassy Keane cover for John Lewis manages to make the top 40. Although I do love the original, there is something I like even more about Lily's soft vocals in her version, although I hope for more synthpop a la Everyone's At It and The Fear on her next album.

31 P!nk ft. Nate Ruess - Just Give Me A Reason

One of the biggest #2 hits of the year and probably P!nk's biggest hit ever (radio certainly won't leave it alone!) just misses the top 30. Assisted by Nate Ruess of fun., this was the instant highlight of P!nk's album for me and it was no surprise it smashed when picked as a single. Gorgeous song, even radio overkill can't ruin it - given I barely listen to the radio

Idina's version >>>> Demetria's version.

#Beautiful is amazing, one of Mariahs best already, so pleased to see people loving it as much as I do!

Somewhere Only We Know is nice enough, but I probably wont go back to it too often.

Yeah it's definitely in my Mariah top 10 - which is great for an artist with an extensive back catalogue like her!

30 Little Mix - Change Your Life

The second of three entries for the girls is the third single from their debut album, released early in 2013. Greatly aided by the fact it was the highlight of the night when I saw them live in February, this empowering hands in the air ballad is one of my faves by them!

29 Miranda Lambert - Mama's Broken Heart

One of the best country singles of the year! Despite being ~2 years (this is the fourth single from her 2011 album Four The Record, and country singles have a much longer span between them than pop singles!) old, this sounds fresh and amazing as ever. This cried out for release since I first heard it; a prime example of angry Miranda <3

28 Carrie Underwood - See You Again

Just one-upping the country princess is the country queen <3 Idol winner Carrie had two massive year end hits last year with Good Girl and Blown Away, and although this doesn't quite match them it takes Carrie into the top 30 regardless. I admittedly wasn't feeling this as a single, and had it pegged as her weakest to date, but time made me appreciate how gorgeous and beautiful it is. That last 'ohhh Hohn woah 'til I see you again' is aural heartbreak and pain if ever it existed <3

27 Kelly Clarskon - People Like Us

And now one-upping one Idol winner is another! The floppy second single from her Greatest Hits made little impact on any worldwide hit but had a pretty damn amazing run on mine. Typical Kelly all over, this empowering anthem was a #1 for her in my chart, even if it barely scraped top 100 anywhere else :(

26 Bridgit Mendler - Ready or Not

It might have some of the worst lyrics of 2013 ('I like your face do you like my song' anyone?), but this damn catchy summery pop track is too good to miss. I thought this would pass the UK by but it made the top 10 here, far outdoing its US peak of something like #48 and being one of a few Disney girl hits this year.

25 Leona Lewis - One More Sleep

Very apt right now :P The floppy Glassheart era might have left Leona with little to no hope, but this festive track is a Christmas miracle in that it's given Leona her biggest airplay hit since Run, and gone to #1 on iTunes! The best new Christmas song in years.

24 Jason Derulo ft. 2Chainz - Talk Dirty

I always have a soft spot (DON'T!!!) for Jason, but this is by far his best song to date! Even the omnipresent 2Chainz can't ruin a Balkan infused brass led chorus, and this was a huge #1 hit for Jason, becoming one of the fastest selling tracks of the year. Shirtless Jason in the video helps.

23 Nikki Williams - Glowing

My first new #1 of 2013 is next, from South African singer Nikki Williams. A stellar pop song, this could easily be a highlight on a Katy Perry or Rihanna album, and soars even more with Nikki's vocals. Although it was a moderate hit on US Pop radio, it never fully took off but I guess with the UK it's never too late so we can have a slither of hope it might peak at #34 in summer 2014

22 Lady Gaga ft. R Kelly - Do What U Want

The first of two entries for our Gagz is her most recent single, and a fan favourite. It took a while to grow, and admittedly it's still not one of her best but the fact it's here in my fave songs of 2013 speaks for itself! This is something a bit different for Gaga, rather than being a "pretentious" 80s inspired electro track, this has more of an R&B edge as the featured artist suggests.

21 The Saturdays - Disco Love

Buzzjack's fave girlband narrowly miss out on having two entries top 20 to replicate 2010, when both Higher and Missing You made the top 10. Nevertheless, following the flop Gentleman, the fun and summery launch single for the girls' fifth album Living For The Weekend managed to make the top 10 (as well as topping my chart) and restored a little bit of faith in the girls.
