December 4, 201311 yr Blurred Lines coming for Adele real soon Am I the only one who thinks this is utterly insane? At least Someone Like You is properly iconic and I suppose deserving of its success. But Blurred Lines?! Really?

December 4, 201311 yr Author Blurred Lines is good. Hate just makes the fire spread. Then I'd better make sure I'm standing next to Robin Thicke when it does... :P

December 5, 201311 yr I can't remember the last time I was so ambivalent about as song as I am about 'Blurred Lines', although obviously it's not ambivalence that sells records. Of course, a lot of people bought Adele's album instead of the single, ISTM that's less the case with Thicko.
December 5, 201311 yr However, with Someone Like You, it's quite possible that a lot of people bought the song twice. Their was the live BRITS version which probably sold like 300,000, and a portion of those probably bought the normal version too.
December 5, 201311 yr It's even weirder when you look at the top selling song of every single decade since the charts began: 1950s: Bill Haley - Rock Around the Clock (birth of rock & roll in the charts, exciting new genre) 1960s: The Beatles - She Loves You (Beatles) 1970s: Wings - Mull of Kintyre (ok a little surprising, but still, Paul McCartney + Beatles + Christmas + gentle song for all the family) 1980s: Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas (massive charity release, every major star of the early 80s on it) 1990s: Elton John - Candle in the Wind '97 (Princess Diana memorial charity record, people buying 10+ copies each) 2000s: Will Young - Anything Is Possible/Evergreen (one of the first ever solo reality TV winners, Pop Idol was a huge and groundbreaking show) 2010s: Blurred Lines. Ok we have six years left to go but if that ends up outselling everything from 2014-2019, just...wow.
December 5, 201311 yr Author Sales for Headband by B.O.B please? Sorry, this never got close to charting so I can't track it.
December 5, 201311 yr I think Blurred Lines will overtake Someone Like You for a whole but I don't think it will sell more outright. I can't see Blurred Lines being much of a trickle seller, Someone Like You is probably gonna be timeless and sell consistently throughout the decade Edited December 5, 201311 yr by justinthomas92
December 5, 201311 yr I think Blurred Lines will overtake Someone Like You for a whole but I don't think it will sell more outright. I can't see Blurred Lines being much of a trickle seller, Someone Like You is probably gonna be timeless and sell consistently throughout the decade I would agree with this. I would say come mid-2014, Someone Like You will be selling more per week than Blurred Lines, esp if Adele brings out a new album and promotes herself etc. So it would seem there's a good chance of Someone Like You retaining the top decade of the decade spot even if it loses it in Q1 2014.
