Posted August 29, 200620 yr Basically tell us all about what you think about Kylies 1998 "Impossible Princess" album
August 29, 200620 yr I really like this album though overall I think its really pretentious. You can't be cool when your trying to hard. This is the problem here. I think this album was more for Kylie's growth rather than mainstreme appeal. It showed how versitile an artist she could really be. But at the same time, the brit pop scene was very popular in the mid 90's and its easy to say Kylie was just trying to follow the trend. One things for sure, the public could not really except an "indie kylie" as the press put it. I think the only people who bought this were her gay fan base who seem to have always stuck by her. I think the album tries to mix to many sounds and because of that it was hard to market. There isn't much direction. Despite its lack of mainstreme appeal though, its a good album. It goes to some dark places. She manages to capture emotion in club songs with tracks like "drunk" and "say hey". I think its her most interesting and personal work. Bet deffo one for the fans. She should be proud of this album Edited August 29, 200620 yr by Ozx
August 29, 200620 yr GOOD TOPIC when i bought impossible princess i was in the uk at the time, first of to start with i liked the cover sleev as it was so different to all her previous albums, when i played the album my honest first opinion was this is c**p and what have you done kylie, some kind of bliss i liked from the first time i heard it and thought it was the only good song on the album,i put the album away for a while and did it again was released and i wasnt that keen on it and agin i didnt listen to the album, Next was breathe which i thought was nice and it really grew on me when i saw her sing it on totp so i decided to get the album out again and listen to it more as at thi stage i liked some kind of bliss and breathe from liking these 2 i saw the different side to the album and it started to grow on me,limbo and i dont need anyone i really liked especially when i saw intimate and live and from then on i really got into the album and have enjoyed it ever since. It isnt my fave kylie album by a long shot but its not my least fave either,in some terms im glad it didnt do that great as its nice to have a acult kylie album as i know many of her fans who bought other album are missing out on this dark but brilliant album
August 30, 200620 yr I remember seeing her sing "breathe" on top of the pops wearing some chinese robe and playing a huge harp. it was so enchanting!
August 30, 200620 yr Author Allmusic By 1997, much of the pop music landscape had changed. The music papers were declaring the "Techno Revolution" was on, Oasis and Manic Street Preachers were ruling the charts, and simple dance-pop seemed to be the domain of teenage girls. So what does the dance-pop diva of the '90s do? She recruits Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield, Sean Moore, and Nicky Wire, starts writing unaided, and completely changes musical direction. Enter Kylie Minogue's Impossible Princess (the title was changed to Kylie Minogue after the death of Princess Diana). From the trippy cover art to the abundance of guitars and experimental vocal tracks, this was her "great leap forward." The move got her in the papers, but, unfortunately, critical acclaim was lacking. So were sales. Critics called it a mistake, and the public was less than impressed. Which is sad, because this is a pretty damn good record. Unlike her early work, this album sounds stronger and has a more natural feel. Her songwriting abilities have come a long way, and Impossible Princess actually flows together as an album. Worth another look. 4/5
August 30, 200620 yr thats quite a good review and i didnt see many good reviews of impossible princess at the time
August 30, 200620 yr Author I thgink a lot of the reviews came afterswards when she became popular again

August 30, 200620 yr Author ow i never thought she would be finished and i def didnt think she would b as big as she is now
August 30, 200620 yr it was a great turnaround and it was brilliant to see all the kylie doubters proved so so wrong
August 30, 200620 yr Author Ow i know. It was great being a Kylie fan when the Light Years happened but i think she needed the Impossible Princess era so express herself even if a lot of people at the time didnt like it.
August 30, 200620 yr totally agree and i think we in some ways can thank imposible princess for kylie's 00- present career
August 30, 200620 yr Author Yea i suppose becuase if she wasnt dropped back then. No idea where she would be.
August 30, 200620 yr true it also really made her realise her fans wanted pop from her,she did it for the fans and look how it payed of
August 30, 200620 yr Author Ow yeah she def learnt that it would be best to go back to what her fans wanted and im so pleased she did.
August 30, 200620 yr intimate and live tour showed her what the fans wanted aswellas she mixed her new stuff with the old at the time and the fans took to the older stuff better
August 30, 200620 yr Author Yeah i remember watrching that and it was obvious to everyone whcih way her career should be going
August 30, 200620 yr ya i know wha you mean,i loved that show when watching it but all the concert dvd releases released since have been so much better than i dont really watch intimate and live that much
