December 27, 201311 yr Author http://i42.tinypic.com/33wpret.png 41. Foals - My Number 42. Justin Timberlake - Mirrors 43. Gabrielle Alpin - Home 44. Rihanna feat Mikky Ekko - Stay 45. Chris Malinchak - So Good to Me 46. Tom Odell - Another Love 47. Duke Dumont feat A*M*E - Need U (100%) 48. Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble. 49. Hurts - Miracle 50. Lady Gaga - Applause Lady Gaga made a big return for me this year as I was able to get back on board with her after a very disappointing BTW campaign for me. She was able to bring back an epic pop track with Applause that didn’t feel liking she was recreating any of her previous hits. Hurts also made a return with a track that has ‘how was this not a hit?!?’ all over it. It may borrow a bit from Paradise but it just sounds so big for it to be ignored. Taylor Swift’s only shining moment came in the form of I Knew You Were Trouble. which is one of the perfect pure pop tracks of the last year so thankfully it’s become her biggest hit. The irresistible Need U (100%) is a fantastic debut hit from Duke Dumont, I think my particular highlight is MNEK’s bits. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Duke and MNEK come up with next year (that A*M*E shade ~). Tom Odell’s breakthrough hit, both for me and public, is the beautiful Another Love which he sings with the perfect emotion. So Good to Me is another perfect track, this time it’s perfect to relax and chill out to. I really love the video to it as well with it featuring a girl and a giraffe’s bizarre relationship. A big feature of many songs this year is minimalist production and one of the best examples of this is Stay, one of Rihanna’s best ballads, if not the best. Again, I love the mix of the two voices and it’s the only Rihanna lead to feature in my Top 200. Gabrielle has her final appearance with Home, another song that builds up to an epic finale and it’s another song with a fantastic video. A slight shock here as Mirrors just trips outside of the Top 40, I still love it but there’s 41 fantastic songs that are unfortunately above it. When this was released, it marked the moment that I was fully behind his comeback and I’m so glad with how it performed. I’ve never really took that much notice of Foals before until they released My Number. A slightly poppier sound to most of their material, it got me interested in the band and I bought Holy Fire straight away.
December 27, 201311 yr Dumont & Malinchak <3, both their follow-ups are great; 'I Got U' really feels like a hit, and 'If U Got It' might do fairly well if Radio 1 finally get around to playlisting it (won't hold my breath on that) kind of a shame Hurts' radio support just evaporated this era. Hoping they'll someday bring out a song that matches the brilliance of Wonderful Life & Better Than Love (Miracle is decent, but just wasn't strong enough imo)

Hoping they'll someday bring out a song that matches the brilliance of Wonderful Life & Better Than Love (Miracle is decent, but just wasn't strong enough imo) Yeh it looks like I Got U is set to be a hit which I've very happy for, sounds so good! Liking If U Got It on first listen (look at them both having 'Got U' in their titles. I know, Radio 1 deeming them not important enough :( I love Miracle but I can see what you mean as it doesn't have the 'beauty' of their first album.
December 29, 201311 yr Author http://i41.tinypic.com/2pz0c9e.png 36. Lady Gaga feat R Kelly - Do What U Want 37. Mutya Keisha Siobhan - Lay Down in Swimming Pools 38. Vance Joy - Riptide 39. Eminem feat Rihanna - The Monster 40. Justin Timberlake - Let the Groove Get In Starting of the Top 40 is Justin’s highest track and the most energetic track of the 20/20 campaign; more like this would have lifted up 2 of 2. Eminem finally returned to Number 1 with The Monster and while Love the Way You Lie is still superior, it doesn’t feel like a weak follow-up in terms of the two artists collaborations. Rihanna was right in that it has a monster hook and it’s the ‘pop-ier’ track of The Marshall Mathers LP 2 but he still has another track to come! An immediate love when I heard it in BJSC (and the highest placed BJSC song!), Riptide is STILL struggling to take off despite Radio 1 support, although it being free for a week on iTunes probably didn’t help. I doubt it’s going to be as successful as many have predicted anymore but at least that way it won’t suffer from overplay! MKS made a fabulous return to music this year and, in a random studio session, produced something that was FAR better than anything of Sugababes 4.0. It’s a beautiful track that uses Kendrick’s Swimming Pools (Drank); when they all sing it at the end *.*. Lady Gaga’s highest song was originally going to be a promo track but THANKFULLY it replaced the awful Venus as the second single. It hasn’t took off as much as I hoped it would but has had steady longevity. Just release the video now please.
December 29, 201311 yr Lovely section. 'Do What U Want' is just the best from her in ages. Yay for Janelle and London Grammar too. (Kendrick getting another appearance (kinda) *.*)
December 29, 201311 yr Lovely so far! That MKS should have been the lead single. A little uninspired perhaps but would have done better for them than Flatline. Good to see Riptide and Gaga so high there!
December 30, 201311 yr Author http://i44.tinypic.com/15x0jl0.png 31. Vampire Weekend - Unbelievers 32. Disclosure feat Jessie Ware - Confess to Me 33. Haim - Falling 34. One Republic - Counting Stars 35. MS MR – Hurricane From MS MR, another of my favourite new bands of the year, Hurricane grew and grew on me until I really appreciated it’s gloomy pop. OneRepublic shot out of obscurity with the massive Counting Stars which is their most commercial sounding song to date. It’s so powerful and big and shows that the band should have had continued success beyond Stop and Stare. They’re the only artist in this group that doesn’t have another song to feature though :kink: The song that made me fall in love with Haim is Falling after I wasn’t that impressed with Don’t Save Me and had yet to hear any other material. Their harmonies are nearly as good as to rival MKS and they bring such a unique sound to the current music industry. Two of my favourite artists of the moment returned to collaborated for the album Settle, after the remix of Running which set off both of their careers, and they really didn’t disappoint. It’s nice to see Jessie explore a different sound. I would have loved this to have become a single just to see how it would have performed, could she have finally scored a Top 40 hit . Vampire Weekend were another artist that returned this year with their third fantastic album in a row. The second highlight from the album was thankfully released as the second single and it was another energetic offering from them.
December 30, 201311 yr Author Lovely section. 'Do What U Want' is just the best from her in ages. Yay for Janelle and London Grammar too. (Kendrick getting another appearance (kinda) *.*) I would love to hear more in the vein of Do What U Want for later material, I think it would be the right direction for her. Lovely so far! That MKS should have been the lead single. A little uninspired perhaps but would have done better for them than Flatline. Good to see Riptide and Gaga so high there! I remember Lay Down... got a few plays from Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1 so it perhaps could have secured them some airplay, with hindsight it probably might have been a better choice :(
December 30, 201311 yr Author http://i39.tinypic.com/23upl4x.png 26. Vampire Weekend - Diane Young 27. Klangkarussell feat Will Heard - Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) 28. Wretch 32 feat Shakka - Blackout 29. Drake feat Majid Jordan - Hold On We're Going Home 30. Imagine Dragons – Radioactive Imagine Dragons (very) long-running hit is at 30, a song that I still haven’t tired of even after loving it since last year. It was great to see it have so much success which surprised me as it has such a dark tone. Drake also had a surprise success with Hold On… where has a different sound to his other singles some of his other previous material. Wretch returned with a refreshing sound to the music industry, seriously that intro is so good – the first few seconds are literally *.*. I need the next single now please! Another song with a great instrumental is Sonnentanz (Sun Don’t Shine) although I do think the vocals lift it a bit. Yet another refreshing song, it was my sound of the summer. Is it even possible for the song to sound any MORE summery? Another (very) energetic offering from Vampire Weekend is Diane Young which is in the style of 50s rock n roll. A bizarre first listen, and still bizarre to this date, it was a bit of an experimental offering from the band but it works so so well and I don’t think any other band could pull it off as well as they do.
December 31, 201311 yr Author http://i42.tinypic.com/126fxv6.png 21. MS MR - Think of You 22. Bastille - Of the Night 23. Haim - The Wire 24. Biffy Clyro - Black Chandelier 25. Calvin Harris feat Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love A song that I loved immediately when I listened to 18 Months, I was so glad I Need Your Love was released as a single and became a big success. It sounds slightly different to some of Calvin’s other songs which makes it so refreshing. Many have tired of overplay but it’s still not got old for me. Biffy were another band making their long-awaited return this year and the first ‘proper’ single was Black Chandelier. It led a somewhat dispointing double album; I do like Opposites but there’s not too many individual highlights beside some of the early singles which is a shame after virtually every single track on Only Revolutions is a highlight! Falling took a lot to top but somehow Haim managed it with The Wire. I think it’s the rhythms and harmonies that make me love the band so much. The video is also great, seeing the sisters split up with their partners and seeing their reactions. A song that I’ve been loving all year is Of the Night so it was great to see it released as a proper single. It’s a lot more controversial then I thought it would be with it mashing up two very much loved 90s dance classics. I just love their reinterpretation of the songs though and mixing them up to create a dark, gloomy sound. More dark pop is next with Think of You which criminally vastly underperformed. It is one of the perfect pop songs of the year so it was upsetting to see both this, and the album, do barely anything.
December 31, 201311 yr Author http://i43.tinypic.com/ou9ov6.png 20. Kanye West - Black Skinhead YLx11xq6X7Q Starting off the Top 20 is the powerful Black Skinhead that has some of the best productions of the year. Just as I feel like I'm getting tired of it, I hear it again through an advert/out/etc and I immediately love it again as if I've only heard it a couple of times before. It just feels so BIG and one of Kanye's very best. 19. Disclosure feat Eliza Doolittle - You and Me W_vM8ePGuRM An unexpected collaboration came in the spring between Eliza Doolittle and Disclosure which create one of the best songs of eithers careers. It's probably Disclosure's 'poppiest' song to date (while being Eliza's LEAST!) but it still sounds so refreshing. A good move for Eliza's next album will be to explore more of this sound seeing as though her last album flopped. The collaboration that followed with Wookie at least showed good promise of this!
December 31, 201311 yr Author http://i40.tinypic.com/fbicr8.png 18. Laura Mvula - Green Garden 5akYnlwubDo Green Garden is one of the most joyful and energetic songs of the year. Laura instantly proved why she deserved to be on many 'Ones to Watch' lists with this song. As I mentioned with That's Alright, it's a shame that she hasn't produced more songs that are upbeat. 17. Eminem - Rap God XbGs_qK2PQA Wow. Just wow. The six minutes of Rap God contains some of Eminem's best raps for me and he lives up to the title by delivering some lines at very quick speed. It's my clear highlight of a very good album and it shows how consistent he's been over the years and he can deliver again and again.
December 31, 201311 yr I think this is the highest You And Me has been in anyone's countdown apart from mine! It just doesn't get enough love.
December 31, 201311 yr Top 20 has been utterly fab so far and starting as it means to go on with that BEASTT at #20. Nice to see 'Blackout' getting some much needed affection and Drake too of course (not that he needs it).
January 1, 201411 yr Author http://i44.tinypic.com/9kbequ.png 16. London Grammar - Strong 6drfp_3823I Strong is one of the most beautiful songs of the year and it deservedly had a relatively successful chart run. There's not really much else I can say that hasn't already been said as it really is just gorgeous  15. Little Mix - Move RwD4eJGxPc4 Who expected this? Little Mix threw out the rulebook on how to play it safe with this inventive R&B song. Being an X Factor contestant, it's already hard to maintain the success so being a girl group coming from this, it's unbelievable that they've even managed to get past the first single. They're proving with every release that they're unique and it's great to see the UK supporting this.
January 1, 201411 yr Author I think this is the highest You And Me has been in anyone's countdown apart from mine! It just doesn't get enough love. I know, it took it's time to grow on me but it really is so so so good. I have since seen it at No. 2 on randomfurlong's chart! Top 20 has been utterly fab so far and starting as it means to go on with that BEASTT at #20. Nice to see 'Blackout' getting some much needed affection and Drake too of course (not that he needs it). I feel like the whole world's forgotten about Blackout and Wretch 32 which makes me very sad :(
January 2, 201411 yr Author http://i44.tinypic.com/29xezrc.png 14. Lorde - Royals nlcIKh6sBtc How is this girl so young yet still able to write songs like these? I don't really like to listen to songs over and over again as it soon becomes dull and I get tired of it but I just couldn't stop listening to this when it finally hit me. I've yet to hear the album but I'm looking forward to see what else Lorde produces and if she can continue her success. 13. Mutya Keisha Siobhan - Flatline iaQh-TTeUWs A FRIDAY RELEASE. WHY? In what feels like years ago when they first announced their reunion, I remember being excited but I was unsure of what to expect and. if I'm being honest, I wasn't expecting that much. When they unveiled Lay Down in Swimming Pools though, that was when I was really on board and excited to see what they had for their official singles. Thankfully Flatline really didn't disappoint and I was addicted to it for ages (and still am now). It's beautiful and their voices just work together perfectly. Yes, it doesn't sound like an instant hit but with more radio/TV support (and without that Friday release), I fully believe it could have at least performed as well as LG's Strong.
January 2, 201411 yr Author http://i42.tinypic.com/24l35z8.png 12. Daft Punk feat Pharrell - Get Lucky 5NV6Rdv1a3I These two songs deserve to be Top 10 but the songs above them are somehow even better! :( Probably the most successful comeback in 2013, at least up until the second week of album sales, this was an instant Top 3 hit after it's release on a Friday () Sooo smooth and the perfect song to bring Daft Punk to a new audience in 2013. 11. Katy B - 5AM VDE2OMZtExY Can I express any more love for this girl? With a perfect first era, it looked impossible for her to top it but somehow it looks like she's going to do it, and so effortlessly as well. If she doesn't get a hit with Crying for No Reason then I don't know how I'm going to cope.
January 3, 201411 yr Author http://i44.tinypic.com/333csbd.png 10. Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? bpOSxM0rNPM Arctic Monkeys are a band that had impressive longevity in terms of success with all their 5 albums managing to reach. They managed to remove any doubt of decreasing quality with this stunner of a song which also managed to appeal to a wide audience. It's success was very much welcomed considering the guitar is essentially the major part of the song ie it's not dependant on the vocals.
