Haerts brought another wonderful dream-pop track to the table a few months back, following 'All The Days' and 'Wings' (the latter is still to come~). Majical Cloudz makes a big impression with the striking piano chords throughout 'Bugs Don't Buzz', and HAIM's breakthrough earlier this year continued with the great 'Falling'

There's even more hand-clapping to be found on James Murphy's inspired take on David Bowie's "Love is Lost" (also throwing in a synth hook borrowed from "Ashes to Ashes"). Other songs in this section include Vampire Weekend's "Step", Phosphorescent's lovely yet vulnerable "Song for Zula", and the MASSIVELY uplifting 'Elevate' from St. Lucia

The fierce tribal beats of 'Black Skinhead' made it an instant stand-out from Kanye's comeback album 'Yeezus'. These are followed by R&B/pop smash 'La La La' (featuring another impressive vocal performance from upcoming star Sam Smith), Jagwar Ma's long running hit 'The Throw', and London Grammar's emotional single 'Wasting My Young Years'

January 1, 201411 yr Author http://i44.tinypic.com/2dl8600.png #16 Duke Dumont Need U (100%) (feat. A*M*E) FnJIb4A-DuY #15 Autre Ne Veut Counting _qhHUmL0U6k Duke Dumont brought us one of the most infectious dance tracks of the year in 'Need U (100%)', with stabbing 90s House beats and a great vocal from A*M*E. And if his forthcoming single 'I Got U' is anything to go by, he may be making an appearance on my list next year! At #15 is 'Counting', a slightly unorthodox R&B track- featuring various distorted and off-kilter sound effects throughout, and a yearning vocal from Arthur Ashin, concerning the fear of losing his grandmother. The track took a while to get used to, but it does eventually mold together into something rather lovely
January 1, 201411 yr The two best BJSC entries of the YEAR  'Supreme' is just that and 'Counting' is sublime. 'Mozart's House', 'C O O L' & 'Need U' are jams too, and Kanye rocking about in all these countdowns *.* woopwoop.

At 13, a track that took me quite some time to pick up on (didn't chart for me until September/October iirc D:), The Knife's 10-minute ADVENTURE includes distorted drums/synths, a twisted vocal delivery, and pretty much everything + the kitchen sink *.*
January 2, 201411 yr Author http://i39.tinypic.com/16i8ro2.png #12 Savages She Will kebq-cENNn0 #11 Ghost Loft So High nmPSlcRfwmk two of my own BJSC entries drop just before the top 10 (one still to go though~). 'So High' somehow managed to win back in July, much to everyone's + my own surprise (even though a month a prior to that i dubbed it as a 'winner' but nvm). Unfairly much less appreciated in comparison was 'She Will' by Savages (which was probably a bit of a silly choice for BJSC tbf). It's the best i've heard from this group so far, the main riff is instantly memorable, and the ferocious climax at the end just SEALS IT.
January 2, 201411 yr Totally agree with the Ghost Loft track, probably one of my favourite tracks from BJSC in the summer and was in my personal chart for a while, it was up against Thomas Azier / Ghostcity
January 2, 201411 yr Author which of these lucky 10 will be the #1? ;o Bastille - Pompeii Daft Punk / Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky Disclosure / AlunaGeorge - White Noise James Blake - Retrograde John Newman - Love Me Again Royksopp / Susanne Sundfor - Running to the Sea Soap&Skin - Sugarbread Sophie - Bipp The Kite String Tangle - Given the Chance Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege top 10 starting very soon~
January 2, 201411 yr Author http://www.overmuziek.net/wp-content/uploads/sophie.png #10 Sophie Bipp MVc3Z-bG6Eo i explained most of the reasons why this song is awesome in a countdown of my favourite BJSC entries this year (where, incidentally, it finished at the very top of the list!). One of the catchiest, cutest and most unique songs i've heard this year. big up Mdice! ;D
January 2, 201411 yr Author #9 John Newman Love Me Again CfihYWRWRTQ Sir Newman's #1 smash lands at the some position his follow-up not-quite-a-smash single did :( but nonetheless, i couldn't really NOT have this in the top 10, not just from the fond memories of THAT week (wink wink), but simply because of how well executed the song itself is. Newman's signature vocal soars effortlessly throughout, and with a show-stealing and instantly memorable chorus, he really couldn't have made a bigger impact with his debut solo single (now release something this good again so i can further justify the loonage!) Edited January 2, 201411 yr by SevenSeize
January 2, 201411 yr So many great songs in that Top 20 already: "Counting", "Wings", "The Wire", Supreme", "She Will" to name a few! Totally agreed on John Newman - the only time on this site in 5 years I've changed my username.. to join in the loonage! *.*
January 2, 201411 yr Author #8 Disclosure White Noise (feat. AlunaGeorge) bkk2H3Ztrfk Disclosure's 'Latch' made it to #3 on my EOY list for 2012, and their nearly-as-good follow up 'White Noise' makes the top 10. Both Disclosure & AlunaGeorge were pitted as rising stars at the time, and this collaboration just seemed to fit like a glove. Plus that icy cool production felt great among the early winter weather back in January!
January 3, 201411 yr Author #7 James Blake Retrograde 6p6PcFFUm5I James Blake's rather sudden return in February was marked with this wonderful track- a perfect balance of soul & electro elements, whereas the latter was much more prominent on his debut album, and Blake's vocal talents really shine against the minimal production
January 3, 201411 yr Like all of the top 10 so far. I gave the Newman album a listen but was quite disappointed with it. He still has this which I love though. 'Retrograde' is a stunner obviously and 'Sophie' is a hellalotta fun but never did hit me as hard as I know it hit you. The Kite to soar??? pl0x
