I've just realised Iggy Azalea and The Sats always release their new singles within a few weeks of each other.

What About Us & Work (released March)

Gentleman & Bounce (released a week apart)

Disco Love & Change Your Life (released two weeks apart)

Not Giving Up & Fancy (releases the same week)

The saturdays rely too much on the radio to make their songs do well. They need to be securing strong promotion aswell, such as the artist who did bonfire heart, that had longevity because it was promoted very well, it wasn't supported by capital a lot even though they playlisted it
I think strong radio support is more helpful than promo - so band artists do well with very little or no promo, but for a band like The Saturdays , they preferably need both. I'd hope for two medium sized to big promo slots for NGU.
Hasn't exactly helped the vamps' new song
Hmm free-fall or not, I'd be very happy with an 83k opening for Not Giving Up.

Promotion is NOT the problem with the girls.

Disco Love had Strictly, Surprise Surprise, Paul O'Grady and Stepping Out (four big TV slots) plus all the morning shows, Sunday Brunch and Live Lounge and it only sold about 130K. They've had tons of huge TV slots over the years (Alan Carr about five times, Jonathan Ross, Graham Norton, Xtra Factor, Michael Ball, Dancing On Ice, Children In Need, Summertime and Jingle Bell Balls, V-Fest, T In The Park, Britains Next Top Model, Ant and Dec, Eurovision warm up show etc) and I'm sure they'll get another one for Not Giving Up.

The problem is airplay. They can do all the TV shows they want, but unless radio and TV are hammering their song then it'll just plummet after release week. TV show give *boosts* to the song and pushes it up a few percentage on Kworb, but after the TV performance wears off it'll just go back to where it was previously.

I'd rather they done a massive radio tour for this single and got a top ten airplay position than whore themselves out on Daybreak, Loose Women, This Morning and Sunday Brunch for the 17th time.

This. (Although Disco Love didn't have Strictly - even though that was a big mistake in my opinion).

Oh you're right. Sorry.

That's why I'm so keen to check the airplay for this song. If, in a couple of weeks then it's nowhere in the top 100 and Radio 1 are only B-Listing it and Capital arent playing it then it's just not going to do well. If Radio 1 A-List it and Capital hammer it then I'd be confident it could be nearly as big as 'What About Us' but it really does depend on radio. :(

Disco Love really suffered from low airplay, which is a shame since it really did seem to connect with the public that actually heard it, in ways that Gentleman just didn't. This is why I think Strictly would have done it well, since most people who would have liked WAU would have already bought it (plus Disco Love is more a strictly kind of song).

But that's besides the point, I'm anxious for Not Giving Up to get good airplay, Radio 1 could be on the verge of dropping The Saturdays at any time, and if NGU is played a lot and is a hit because of that, it could mean Radio 1 would stick with them a bit longer.

Exactly.

Radio (particularly Radio 1) are sooo fickle and a bit ageist. I know The Sats have only been around six years but that's a long time in pop. They need to stop releasing the 30 Days, Gentlemans, My Heart Takes Overs and Disco Loves (as much as I love it, it's just wayy too cheesy and girly) and start releasing the cooler, more aggressive songs like Not Giving Up, Get Ready Get Set, One Shot etc. Radio 1 have abandoned Alexandra Burke, Robbie Williams, Britney Spears and other artists for fickle reasons and I can see them starting to snub The Sats completely unless they get a proper hit again. Gentleman and Disco Love only went to B-List on Radio 1, so the signs are already there that they're losing interest in playing them.

Releasing the best songs from the album = radio play = successful songs (or the other way about. Releasing your best songs means they'll sell more when released and radio can't ignore them, ala What About Us).

Releasing cheesy or average songs and ignoring the best songs = radio don't care = flop single = harder to get the next single airplay

Radio 1 have ditched so many artists, we should be really greatful hey still love our girls, it's just capital that need to get on board next tome

I'm still holding out hope for NGU at least. I think Disco Love was an oversight on Radio 1's part, they probably didn't A-list simply because it was a bit overcrowded with the time of year it was. Even though it was only B-listed it's had more plays than Forever Is Over, Just Can't Get Enough, My Heart Takes Over, 30 Days and other songs that were A-listed.

I'm hoping that NGU is not only A-listed, but is A-listed a week prior to its release to ensure that people properly know it when it comes out.

I can't see why Capital would snub it, they've played most Saturdays songs and this matches the 'Right we've got a big song coming up to get you ready for the weekend' kind of cliches they always spurt out.

Their just such a part-time band, they sort of turn up, drop a catchy single, bring out a couple of rubbish ones and then repeat the same generic formula. For a band whose first album held such promise, I'm surprised. This current era has been such a mess.
just a question! i pre-ordered the CD from the store, i swear the pre-order policy is that they take the money when it's dispatched? they have taken the money out my bank (done this tuesday) and the money has not returned? help! ;/
I wish they'd give us a teaser of the video. Would defo help to build some hype not that this forum needs it :kink:

I think it should be fine as all the prices for CD's I have pre-ordered were immediately taken from my bank account

thing is it happened with the last few pre-orders but they take money out when it's dispatched as well!

also says this on the policy

"We do not take any money from your account for Physical items until your order has been dispatched form our warehouse unless you have chosen to pay using PayPal where payment is taken at point of order placement."

and i didn't pay using paypal
