I wasn't waiting for the MP3's but I keep forgetting to start listening so very glad for the extra week! Now that Christmas/New Years stuff's over, I should probably get on it soon.

20 out of the 25 songs are like an electronic/dance song with a female vocalist, they all sound exactly the same and they are all bland as ever.

I voted earlier, as I might not get a chance next week.
I think there is some of the female fronted electro stuff that stands out more than others but I do agree that in general the overall sound seems to be very similar this time around.
I'm downloading the mp3 packs atm, I started checking youtube, etc. but gave up after a short while. Based on the 5-6 songs I listened to, I haven't found an excellent one yet, BUT I'm happy to give points to nearly all of them. Can't wait to check all! :cheer:

Oh dear. This is what I feared.

On the BJ Indie/alt forum? Who could have seen that coming...

When I send anything else no one ever votes for it!

True, so I'm not surprised at all - this is what 'we' need, this is what we get ;) . I still prefer this lot to the previous UP, though, there are quite good entries (and most of my favourites will be in the second half again :P ) .

Rather typically, I think this is a very good edition, very few totally brilliant songs but also very few truly terrible songs.
I think the instrumentals could do well, but I still think it is Seinabo Sey's to lose.

This is the problem.

This isn't directed at you RFC, and I'm going to be an ass about this but I blame the invasion of indie/alternative forum by those who don't really bother too much with it apart from during Unknown Pleasures. Their votes have swung the competition away from variety and towards female fronted electronic/chill-wave, some of which is good but it's disheartening when confronted by the the narrow range of the submissions because of what people think (and inevitably) will do well.

Sooner than pander to what is voted for I gave up on UP and started Buzzjack Nuggets (for better or worse).

That said - I've listened to the first five or six entries and there's a few male singers :o
