One Direction Fans Raise Over $13,000 In Honour Of Harry Styles' 21st Birthday

 

We know that we are always bleating on about it, but we ruddy love those Directioners. Yet again, they have all pulled together in honour of a One Direction member's birthday, and this time it's the adorable Harry Styles who will be getting a hefty charity donation made in his name. And we bet that he couldn't be any more proud of the fans. The curly-haired one is turning the big 2-1 on Sunday, and the fandom has rallied together and managed to raise over $13,000 (that's over £8,000 to you and me) for the London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard, a charity close to the birthday boy's heart.

 

Once again organised by hardcore Directioner, Amy Flanagan, the description on the fundraising page reads: "We are holding a charity drive for the London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard in honor of Harry Styles' 21st Birthday! Harry recorded a 'happy birthday' message to Switchboard earlier this year for their 40th birthday! "Founded in 1974, the London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard (LLGS) is the oldest gay and lesbian telephone help line in the UK. LLGS, or "Switchboard" as it is affectionately known, provides a listening service for people to discuss their feelings in an impartial and non-judgmental way, as well as information and advice.

 

"Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

"[Tumblr User]Createdoutofnecessity is heading up a donation matching challenge. Donate your spare change to the drive and write "Loose Change for Harry" somewhere in the message or name fields.

 

"From now until Harry's bday on Feb. 1, on the first of each month, Createdoutofnecessity will count up the donations that have "Loose Change for Harry" in the name or message on the donation page and she'll match up to $100 each month!" Talk about generous, what have the haterz got to say to that, eh?

In addition to the donations, the drive auctioned off a 'rainbow bondage bear' for over $300, which is a replica of the teddy that mysteriously joined the boys on stage during their last tour, and on top of THAT Tumblr users have also been embarking on '21 Days Of Harry' in honour of the twenty-year-old's big day.

 

We have previously reported how Amy has raised thousands and thousands of pounds for charity in honour of the other One Direction member's birthdays too. Back in December, almost $25,000 was donated to Doncaster based Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice for Louis Tomlinson's 23rd birthday. Louis is a proud patron of the local charity, which offers valuable care and support for children with a shortened life expectancy. Earlier this month, over $11,000 was raised for the British Asian Trust for Zayn Malik's 22nd birthday, as Zayn is an ambassador for the cause.

 

In short, these Directioners just keep on outdoing themselves - and if anything can make the bighearted Harry smile from ear to ear on his special day, we are pretty sure it's a humongous donation made to a charity in his honour. Good on ya', guys. Have a slice of birthday cake on us.
