Before I commence the top ten albums of 2013 here is the worst.

xx. Katy Perry - Prism
BcgtTocCIAAVmEt.png

Yes, I beleive this album absolutely sucks!. I never was a huge fan of Katy but being a pop culture fanatic and Katy herself being an undeniable Pop goddess, I thought I best give the collection a listen. What I discovered was bland lyrics, boring beats and uninspired melodies. Her voice sounds so grated on my ears as well. Admittedly "Dark Horse" is a good tune and Roar was okay, but I rated 8 of the 13 tracks 1 star. Teenage Dream was a good album with obvious stand out hits but overall, Prism is nothing in comparison. A very poor album from someone who is expected to produce high quality pop music.

:music:Top Ten Albums of 2013:music:
10. Freedom - Rebecca Ferguson
Bcgu-7NCcAEPOTX.png
Rebecca Ferguson has one of the most distinctive female voices in the music industry. Her sultry sounds shine effortlessly on every song she sings here. The silky ballad featuring John Legend "Bridges" and upbeat "Hangin' On" are the best tracks here. Lead single "I Hope" didn't quite satisfy my ears, and although the album never touches the highs of her debut, Freedom still encompasses a dreamy, soulful collection of songs sung with such breezy and unique vocals.

09. Try This - P!nk
BcgtfdtCIAEPqXY.png
P!nk has had an exceptional year again on my chart. After the mammoth success of The Truth About Love last year, I bought the physicals of all her earlier releases during Springtime, which resulted in many tracks charting all over the place. Try This for me was the most exciting album of the previous 5 because it was her most rockiest and edgiest record. The bad attitude and punk-flavoured pop matched with her hard hitting, raw vocals makes for a brilliant sound to the ears. Standout tracks include "Waiting For Love", "Save My Life" and "Try Too Hard". Although it may not be as personal as her other music, it's certainly her most exciting and thrilling ride yet.

08. ARTPOP - Lady GaGa
Bcg4sxYCIAAecwa.png
Probably her most weird collection to date. This album divides me because it has very clear standouts including "Venus", "Sexxx Dreams" and "Artpop" it also sinks really low into probably some of GaGa's worst songs. Its eccentricity keeps you intrigued for a while however the dull moments of the album really do disappoint. As some who loves a good consistent sound to their albums, Born This Way for me is better even though it doesn't match some of the colourful, catchier numbers of ARTPOP which I usually prefer. Hopefully next time around GaGa won't have genuine moments of pure pop pleasure pushing aside other tracks into their shadows.

07. Talk A Good Game - Kelly Rowland
Bcg4ickCAAAL7yQ.png
Taking a break from all the pop I usually consume, Kelly's R&B tunes are very much welcome. Kelly has a very good recording voice and her sexual lyrics make an enticing record when combined with the smooth synthesizers. The best tracks are the title track itself, the Beyoncé and Michelle featured "You Changed" as well as "Dirty Laundry". The album is very consistent with its sound as each track smoothly transitions into the next one. It's not as uptempo or exciting as 2011's Here I Am however it's good enough to be considered a solid, standard R&B record.

06. Brand New Eyes - Paramore
Bcg8rrjCEAAQHGX.png
What an incredible album. First off, Hayley Williams' vocals are incredible. The slight youthful aspects to her voice make the lyrical content of the songs even more dramatic and emotional. It brings such nostalgic feelings when I listen to this album because it was played by my friends during the best years of my teenage life when I was 14/15 years old. At the time, I never took notice because it was alternative rock music which was not my forté back then or even now, however after listening to "Ignorance" by chance I fell in love. The best tracks of the album are the final two, "Misguided Ghosts" and "All I Wanted" which are two extremely emotional ballads, yet contain rock influences. The album has a consistent sound and each track does something for me, there are no fillers. Brilliant work from the band that I can't believe I so easily ignored back in 2009.

05. Alive - Jessie J
Bcg8wcACIAAcCYj.png
Who You Are remains one of my biggest and most exciting experiences of music. Alive, however, does not quite engage me as much as her debut did. It's a solid collection of catchy pop songs with standouts including "Conquer The World", "Thunder", "Breathe" and the lead single "Wild", however, the image and identity of Jessie throughout this album campaign has been difficult for me to attach onto. I miss the quirkiness of her mystic-meg cut alter ego and the songs before felt genuinely personal. There's no denying songs like "I Miss Her" aren't as personal but it seems she's now become a fully fledged pop star and we lost the girl singing on her bedroom floor. The album itself still remains a catchy, upbeat and positive more polished record even though the order of the track listing is a little jumbled.

04. Settle - Disclosure
BchCv55CAAEtz1g.png
This album was the soundtrack to my summer! Disclosure are incredibly talented producers and their fusion of house/dance music is very satisfying to the ear. Among the tracks that feature vocalists, "Confess To Me" with Jessie Ware, "You & Me" with Eliza Doolittle & the debut single "Latch" featuring Sam Smith remain my three favourites. The album tracks easily slides into each one and the attention to detail is very impressive. The album tends to start lulling on the featureless tracks especially "Grab Her" which continues for a full 5 minutes, 16 seconds with a repetitive hook that begins to annoy. The album has brilliant hooks and the deep house bass makes my body instantly start moving.

03. Beyoncé - Beyoncé
BchC1V_CYAA967K.png
Beyoncé has well and truly upped the game here. It is her best effort yet. The experimentation has really paid off. I adore the basslines and effortless vocals as well as the sexual tension she portrays in her voice. The best tracks include "Ghost/Haunted", "Yoncé/Partition", "Drunk In Love" and "***Flawless". Goodbye to the catchy, bland pop tunes that every megastar throws at us to death and a very warm welcome to the intricate R&B pulses and hip-hop orientated pop songs that make a real effect on me. When I listen to this, I feel like I'm listening to a real piece of art. All hail Queen Bey.

02. In Your Hands - Eliza Doolittle
BchG_R1CcAAmae4.png
Eliza has had a brilliant year on my chart. I've always adored her effortless, croaky vocals. In Your Hands is a very, very good collection of upbeat songs that packs an inconspicuous punch, where at first you don't realise just how good the songwriting is. Eliza's music is very easy to listen to and appealing to the chilled out listener. Tracks like "Hush", "Bag Packing" and "Make Up Sex" are very captivating tunes whereas "In Your Hands", "Team Player" and "Don't Call It Love" are more subtle in their infectious melodies. In Your Hands is a very likeable record that just proves that she shouldn't be underestimated.

01. Warrior - Ke$ha
BchHEQMCYAAMP7N.png
What an amazing and wonderfully trashy pop record. The genre of music Ke$ha produces can only be described as trashy, exciting, pulsating pop that is demands the listener to dance. "Thinking Of You", "Warrior", "Supernatural", "All That Matters (The Beautiful Life)" and "Out Alive" are fantastic dance anthems which will please any pop/dance fan. She deals with subjects of heartbreak and loss, being in total love and self identity in true Ke$ha form, with foul-mouthed lyrics and references to her vagina, it makes the whole of the warrior ride a really exciting, fun-filled enjoyable journey.

'Freedom'! Definitely much better than 'Heaven'. Bought it yesterday, and have listened to it a fair bit (well, 'My Best' and 'I Hope' a fair bit :kink:). Woo for 'ARTPOP', 'Alive', 'BEYONCÉ' and 'In Your Hands' as well - all fantastic albums! :cheer:

'Breathe' isn't my favourite on 'Alive', but it's still a great track! She seems much more consistent on this album and that's great! Hopefully more of the same (+ progression) in her next album.
