Why does The 20/20 Experience (2 of 2) STILL have an iTunes banner and has done every week aside from Beyoncé's takeover. It's also listed in the 'New Releases' section. I'm guessing the label is paying for the promotion but it's hardly affecting sales.

Sorry for the lack of updates the last 2 days, blame the downtime and laziness respectively. Back on track (the 'previous positions' are from 23:00 yesterday) ~

 

Little of interest in the last 2 updates anyway. Both of Bruno Mars' albums are resurgent due to iTunes advertising them for some reason and Paolo Nutini's 'Sunny Side Up' made a reappearance yesterday, presumably because of his new single. We've also got Arctic Monkeys' debut back in the top 100.

 

On today's update the Sound City - Real To Reel soundtrack is back in a big way, again due to a big iTunes banner - no idea why now but it seems the film came out exactly a year ago today so maybe there's some sort of anniversary thing going on there. A number of The Voice-related resurgances including *sigh* Emeli Sandé, because apparently talent show performances of 'Clown' still shift that album.

 

The standard version of 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2' has plummeted since it was put back to full price - 2-14-59 in the last 3 updates and now back behind the deluxe!

Bombay Bicycle Club looking to cause an upset against Katy B this week? There's been some really underwhelming opening sales for middling pop acts even with top 10 lead singles in the last year or so, I'm wondering whether this will be a repeat of Avenged Sevenfold vs Naughty Boy or whether "Crying For No Reason" has been big enough for her to get there.

I think Bombay Bicycle Club should get #1 quite easily now based on their pre-order success (and the fact they'll probably only need to sell about 15k). Hopefully 'Luna' should finally be able to go top 100 in the singles chart this week as well, it's been holding up far better than 'Carry Me' so quite annoying that it's been ineligible - currently #66 on iTunes.

 

Aside from Bombay Bicycle Club at #1, the other new releases in the top 100 are Broken Bells (#5), Within Temptation (#10), Maxïmo Park (#26 + #87), Augustines (#42), Toni Braxton/Babyface (#78) and The Family Rain (#91). I don't think I've heard anything from the last 2 or 3 Maxïmo Park albums, shame as I used to really like them, much more than most of the other 'landfill indie' bands.

Ellie's 'Halcyon Days' was reduced to £6.99 in HMV today (*), so her physical sales may rise a bit this week.

I know Maximo Park were one of the best indie bands to appear during the 2003 - 2008 period they seem to have moved across to 6 music who are supporting them. Would love to know why radio 1 will play older indie bands like for instance QOTSA last yr & Kasabian but not Maximo Park?

Yeah i would say your are exactly right although there could be arguements with QOTSA as they never fully supported them even back in the late 90s usually a blisted band from what i remember although maybe No-One Knows made the alist. They never supported them in the same way they did the last album from The Black Keys or Kings of Leon!

Great news to see Clean Bandit finally have an album coming out, like the title as well! Obviously the pre-order has only just been added but in the top 100 already and not out until the 12th of May, could be a #1 album for them unless there's something else massive out in the same week.

 

Annoyingly though there are 3 instant grats on the album ('Mozart's House', 'Dust Clears' and a new song called 'Heart On Fire') so it looks like 'Mozart's House' and 'Dust Clears' are going to be ineligible for the chart for the next few months <_< Then again they're nowhere near a significant position so that's not too bad.

Not exactly sure why Prince is suddenly so high but the album is £3.99 and he's just released a new single so probably something to do with one and/or both of those things. I don't see any specific advertising for it on iTunes though.

 

That Busta and Q-Tip album does not contain 'Thank You' strangely enough.
