I will kick start this tomorrow (and probably do the bulk of it then), it has been an incredible year and the best year in quite some time so I had real difficulty compiling this. It will be a similar format to last year's, and I will also do a "top 5 horrors" too.

For the meantime, I will list some honourable mentions that had to miss out this year.

Amelia Lily - Shut Up (And Give Me Whatever You Got)

Nicole Scherzinger - Boomerang

Fall Out Boy - My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up)

P!nk Feat. Nate Ruess - Just Give Me A Reason

Demi Lovato - Neon Lights

Little Mix - Move

Will.I.Am Feat. Justin Bieber - #Thatpower (I probably like this enough, but deliberately excluded it for the sake of my credibility)

Dido - End Of Night

Jennifer Lopez - Live It Up

Disclosure Feat. Jessie Ware - Confess To Me

Russ Chimes - Turn Me Out

Kelly Clarkson - People Like Us

Diana Vickers - Cinderella

One Direction - Best Song Ever

Justin Timberlake - Take Back The Night

Capital Cities - Safe And Sound

Ray Foxx - Boom Boom (Heartbeat)

Neon Jungle - Trouble

Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball

Drake - Hold On, We're Going Home

Swiss Lips - U Got The Power

Conor Maynard - R U Crazy

Ciara - Overdose

Britney Spears - Perfume

Krewella - Alive

Gabrielle Aplin - Please Don't Say You Love Me

HAIM - The Wire

Katy Perry - Unconditionally

The Killers - Shot At The Night

Move, Boomerang, Live It Up, Best Song Ever missing out??

I think for you it'll probably be very much a mixed bag, but I'm confident you'll like some of it. :P

40-31, let's go!

40. Duke Dumont Feat. A*M*E - Need U (100%)

http://www.rollingtuff.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Duke-Dumont-feat.-A-M-E-Need-U-100.jpg

UK number one from earlier in the year, it was symbolic of the general 90s sound which came back into vogue this year (and I loved). Who could resist that delicious bassline and the powerhouse diva vocals? Good memories attached to this track. Bizarre that they're waiting a year later to follow it up though.

39. Iggy Azalea - Bounce

http://cdn.rap-up.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/iggy-azalea-bounce.jpg

I don't like this girl at all, but this is such a fabulous and unique track and so much better than her other two singles! I'm not quite sure what went wrong with this one, I was sure it would be huge but in the end bombed completely. :(

38. Delta Goodrem - Heart Hypnotic

http://www.popjustice.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Delta-HH-590x590.jpg

I always had a soft spot for Delta (in fact, she appeared at #22 in last year's list with the beautiful 'Wish You Were Here'). It was good to see her branching out with this, the production is cheap but still such an anthemic song. It got to #7 in Austalia, but only because she performed it on The Voice. It didn't even get an official video in the end.

37. Armin Van Buuren - Beautiful Life

http://static.djguide.nl/image/nieuws2013/upl21824_600.jpg

Attended a set by this guy at Privilege in Ibiza back in June, he was AMAZING. Really knew how to get a crowd going. Anyway, I find it totally unfair that this did nothing and the far inferior and more bland 'This Is What It Feels Like' was huge, I know that's more in-keeping with current trends but come on!

36. Avicii - Lay Me Down

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sites/default/files/2013/09/true_album_cover_s_2-13.jpg

Not a single yet, but so much better than the other three singles from this album. Apparently, rumour has it that he is releasing every song on the album as a single in tracklist order, so expect this to be the 8th single! Wonderful Adam Lambert's vocals work perfectly on this master piece, and Nile Rogers' involvement adds a nice funky retro disco element to it. Fabulous.

35. Bruno Mars - Treasure

http://www.thebounce.ca/files/bruno-treasure.jpg

Not a fan of Bruno Mars if I'm honest (in fact I only really like this and 'It Will Rain'), but this was one of my summer anthems. This, along with JT's 'Take Back The Night' were both really respectable homages to Michael Jackson, this could easily be from his Off The Wall era.

34. Natalia Kills - Saturday Night

http://persiancamp92.com/files/download_pic/201306/Natalia-Kills-Saturday-Night-2013_101052.png

I was a fan of her Perfectionist album and think she's really deserved some success, this proved to me that she still has it. A nice dark and brooding electro pop song with a sombre feel, did nothing anywhere of course but it's a masterpiece. I really should check out her recent album which features this.

33. Maroon 5 - Daylight

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g7FD3lYEbQo/UPg5YWrFGhI/AAAAAAAAGPg/Crx0ZSxuMIw/s1600/maroon2.jpg

This is one of the year's mystifying flops for me, definitely by far the best from their last era and such a solid song. I'm not ordinarily a huge fan of the boys, but I couldn't get enough of this.

32. Hot Natured Feat. Anabel Englund - Reverse Skydiving

http://doyoulikethatsong.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/hot-natured-reverse-skydiving-shadow-child.jpg

This was something of a late discovery for me, I heard it by the pool on holiday about a month ago and loved it! Slick, sexy house groove.

31. Icona Pop - We Got The World

http://i45.tinypic.com/idwt2x.jpg

You know what to expect with this one, more of the same but I love it anyway (pun semi intentional). I think this would have made a much stronger follow-up to 'I Love It', although I'm not sure anything could have really prevented them being one hit wonder, it's almost as if it was written "in the stars" from the beginning. Speaking of 'I Love It', I can exclusively reveal it is to feature later on in the countdown. Do "I love it" enough for it to be #1? Stay tuned.

Expecting 'Somewhere Only We Know' for #1 here, but I don't know your taste well enough to be sure. Although many of those 'just missed out' ones are fab - poor brave generic J-Pit.

Hoping for Skirt to be at least top 5 here :drink: and for some Justin Trousersnake.

'Skirt', I can reveal is still to come. With regards to old Trousersnake, 'Take Back The Night' was in the shortlist and it pained me to cut it but that's all there is from him. :( In a less good year like last year both that and 'Mirrors' probably would've made it!

30. CHVRCHES - Lies

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XocWVIcCGEQ/T7QCPAd7k3I/AAAAAAAAF90/Ye303Mrx6UY/s1600/Churches%20-%20Lies%20artwork.jpg

BIG song, their best and I still live in hope one day it can be a hit through them either through re-relasing or being used in an advert.

29. Marina + The Diamonds - How To Be A Heartbreaker

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m3tx_K1620c/UGhhoNqym9I/AAAAAAAABKw/1lMEuReLdVY/s1600/How_to_Be_a_Heartbreaker.jpg

Wasn't ever going to do anything, but a glorious pop song pulled off in a style only Marina could do.

28. The Saturdays - Disco Love

http://poprocked.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/the-saturdays-disco-love-590x590.jpg

When these girls get it right they can come up with something brilliant, this is an unashamed camp-as-a-row-of-pink-fluffy-tents ode to the love of disco. They still have 'What About Us' to come but how high can it go? All the way to #1?

27. Katy Perry - Roar

http://cdn.idolator.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/08/katy-perry-roar-prism-single-art-cover-1-400x400.jpg

Anticipation was high and the pressure was on for her comeback, but it's safe to say she pulled it out of the bag with this. There will be a one eyed tiger out there very pissed off with her I imagine.

26. Lady Gaga Feat. R. Kelly - Do What U Want

http://www.muumuse.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/lady-gaga-do-what-u-want-single-art-21.jpg

Sexy electro 'n' B number which seems to be doing a good job of keeping her afloat for the time being, where is that damn video though woman? If she were to get tid of R. Kelly and add Christina Aguilera after their recent brilliant performance, this could even be bumped up a few places higher. Gaga will feature later on with 'Sexxx Dreams', but how high?

25. Daft Punk Feat. Julian Casablancas - Instant Crush

http://www.clashmusic.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_feature/public/field/image/daft-punk-random-access-memories-cover.jpg

For this the French duo teamed up with Julian Casablancas of The Strokes fame, for what is by FAR the best song on the album. Quite frankly, they really dropped the ball by not releasing this as the follow-up to 'Get Lucky'.

24. Lawson - Juliet

http://store.universal-music.co.uk/content/ebiz/universalmusic/invt/l./B./Y./0602537564033/0602537564033_medium.jpg

These lot have really grown on me and this is a perfect little guilty pleasure, impossible not to tap your toes.

23. Diana Vickers - Mad At Me

http://rnbxclusive.se/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Diana-Vickers-Lightning-Strikes.jpg

With this album Diana properly embraced the 80s pop diva in her, and this rousing number is supposedly her next single. Annoyingly, I cannot find a decent quality version of this song on YouTube. :arrr: But yes, very underappreciated and her album is worth a listen if you haven't heard it.

22. Foxes - Youth

http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mZY3D-Er3yOegaLwKGQcYlg.jpg

Gorgeous song by a gorgeous talented young lady, also worth checking out is her song 'White Coats'. There is another Foxes related track coming up later, but what is it and where is it?

21. Calvin Harris Feat. Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love

http://thissongissick.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Calvin-Harris-I-Need-you-Love-feat-Ellie-Goulding.jpeg

Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding was always going to be a winning combination, highly generic and highly overplayed but it was deservedly one of the year's biggest hits. I dare say this aided Ellie Goulding to the path of mega success she seems to be enjoying at the moment.

Well at least we have Kylie <3

I will now do 20-11, and my top 5 horrors of this year before moving into the top 10 tomorrow.

20. Pet Shop Boys - Axis

http://www.popjustice.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/8663172-590x380.jpg

This mostly instrumental track from the veteran pop duo was a real return to form, I still haven't checked out their album (bad fan) but do love everything I have heard from it.

19. Jessie Ware - Imagine It Was Us

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a8/Jessie_Ware_Devotion.jpg

This was a bit of a surprise for me, for an artist like Jessie Ware to be doing something not to dissimilar to a 90s Janet Jackson song. This is gorgeous, pretty campy dance pop but also quite understated and not too in your face. Deserved to be bigger!

18. Kylie Minogue - Skirt

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7w_mWJJp52Y/UaT9_W9tm3I/AAAAAAAAJoM/4QrWkE90yfA/s1600/960021_10151815127740116_722688192_n.jpg

Kylie unveiled this teaser in the summer for her album which didn't actually end up being released this year in the end, in this she explores the dance diva within with chugging electronic synths and big room dance production. It will be interesting to see if she keeps this direction for the album, although in the time that's elapsed since she could have scrapped any ideas and started again from scratch.

17. Zedd Feat. Hayley Williams - Stay The Night

http://cdn02.cdn.justjared.com/wp-content/uploads/headlines/2013/09/zedd-stay-the-night-feat-hayley-williams-listen-now.jpg

This is pretty much a clone of 'Clarity', but it's still a massive choon. It's currently making waves in the US and should be a fairly sizeable UK hit in February. 'Clarity' will feature later, how far can it go?

16. Le Youth - C O O L

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VKijENUF8vc/UdR89lG5PfI/AAAAAAAAFJk/d5pyz9qjHfs/s500/artworks-000046440609-lzcea0-t500x500.jpg

Addictive electro-pop track with a refrain loosely based around Cassie's 2006 hit 'Me & U' (of course this is way better than that). I heard his next single and it's near enough identical to this, but still decent anyway.

15. Tegan + Sara - Closer

http://headytunes.co/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/closerts-640x640.jpg

Not really familiar with the work of these girls, but this is a stormer of a pop song. It started to get somewhere recently in the US when they tried pushing it again but then suddenly just died. :(

14. Nikki Williams - Glowing

http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130623125326/americantop40/images/8/86/Nikki_Williams_-_Glowing.png

This time last year I was sure this girl would be one of 2013's biggest new stars, it really saddens me she wasn't as she's amazingly talented and has one of the best voices I've ever heard. 'Kill, Fuck, Marry' was my #6 of 2012 and whilst this isn't quite as majestic, it's still a very solid pop song that deserved to do well. Maybe she'll get her chance again with something else?

13. Avicii vs Nicky Romero - I Could Be The One

http://miltonious.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/avicii-i-could-be-the-one-nicky-romer-miltonious-weekend-anthem.jpg

This was a big track which got me excited for my Ibiza holiday in the summer, and I still regard this as being much better than 'Wake Me Up'. Pretty awesome and inspiring video too.

12. Stooshe - Slip

http://i1.cdnds.net/13/12/618x618/stooshe-slip-single-artwork.jpg

I don't really like this group at all, but this was just something else. I would say it deserved better than it got, but I really never expected them to release another note of music again after the 'Waterfalls' saga so I suppose it's not too bad. Laden with hooks, a bold chorus and a delicious funky retro vibe this was total perfection.

11. Lady Gaga - Sexxx Dreams

235355807_700.jpg

For me this is easily the best thing she has done since 'Bad Romance', and the highlight of a relatively disappointing ARTPOP. I love everything about it, the chorus and the bass is a perfect combination and gets me moving every time, the funk guitar in the middle 8 and who can forget: "I can't believe I'm telling you this but I've had a couple of drinks and oh my god...". Must be a future single!

I now present to you, the top 5 most shocking moments in music this year.

5. John Newman - Cheating

http://tok3kylkzpdznmj1.zippykid.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/John-Newman-Cheating.jpg

'Love Me Again' was brilliant, however this was probably the most shocking way to follow-up a #1 single I have seen in quite some time. It deserved to flop as it did.

4. K Koke Feat. Rita Ora - Lay Down Your Weapons

http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130214081222/rita-ora/images/8/80/LayDownYourWeapons.jpg

Heard this monstrosity once and my ears are still bleeding from the trauma, still what can you expect when someone as reprehensible as Rita Ora is involved? Ghastly.

3. Lily Allen - Somewhere Only We Know

http://a5.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music6/v4/1f/ae/61/1fae61a3-70cc-aa28-5315-e38febeebd31/825646350285.255x255-75.jpg

Now, this has caused me so much aural torture over the festive season. I think the reason why this doesn't work is because Lily Allen quite frankly is not a singer, she should stick to what she usually does. As a result, she's drained any soul that was in the original and left us with a painfully empty and limp cover which has zero effort or thought put into it whatsoever. I wouldn't have had such a problem with 'Hard Out Here' getting the success as that is decent, but shame on you if you bought this.

2. Jessie J - It's My Party

http://www.inflexwetrust.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Jessie-J.jpg

After coping Katy Perry's 'Last Friday Night' worked so well for 'Domino', Jessie J thought she would have a crack at P!nk's 'Raise Your Glass' with catastrophic results. Cringeworthy lyrics throughout, awful screeches and wails and the ultimate low point: "awww, your only friend is your phone". What the fuck were you thinking woman?! Hopefully in years to come the only place this will be heard or recognised is in those worst songs ever countdowns on the music channels.

1. Paris Hilton Feat. Lil' Wayne - Good Time

http://cdn.idolator.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/01/paris-hilton-good-time-single-400x400.jpg

So, Jessie J's would be surefire winner is prevented from 'victory' by this, and I'm sure I don't need to delve into detail as to why. Just watch and listen to the above video if you're brave enough and let's count our lucky stars she's not actually famous any more.
