Only 9.8k for "Burn" to go until it hits platinum, should easily clear that this week then; here's hoping BPI bring attention to it.

I'm not sure though, because the four million-sellers came before the sales started collapsing at the end of the summer. However, there was Roar and Counting Stars afterwards. I think 2014's sales will be back down on a similar level to 2010/2011, so we will probably still get million-sellers, but they won't reach a million as effortlessly as some of the songs this year did.

What interests me in a Lack of faith in on air releases esp looking at the top 10 selling singles of the year 5 are on air singles & 2 others (Blurred Lines & Wake me Up) were early releases due to massive demand!

I'll answer these on Thurs.

As to the last part, I'll point you to last week's sales thread... http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t=0&start=0

I own the whole Top 20 singles bar the awful and overrated Macklemore songs, mostly thanks to the Now music compilations I've bought this year.
Hi Vid, what's your estimate on the total sales of the first two One Direction albums? Surely 'Up All Night' must be quite close to a million by now?

Not as close as it was on 7/12, when it passed that mark. :P

Thanks... technically 1033k is still quite close to a million though :P

I guess Take Me Home and Midnight Memories will both pass 1m sometime in the next few months too, not bad for your first three albums!

Vidcapper, do you have an estimate for Avril's Here's To Never Growing Up and her album please? Do you also have an estimate for Dido's Greatest Hits as well? Thanks!

I make it 6 songs that were OA/OS ('Get Lucky', 'Let Her Go', 'Thrift Shop', 'Just Give Me a Reason', 'Counting Stars' and 'Mirrors'). Plus as you say, 'Blurred Lines' and 'Wake Me Up' were brought forward, which makes 'Roar' and 'La La La' the only properly held-back songs in the top 10.

Obviously this debate has been had a million times, but it's really beyond doubt now that immediate releases work best for ALL artists. People usually talk bring up specific examples of OA/OS releases from the likes of Lady Gaga or Britney which flopped, but they're really bad examples because most of their singles underperform these days even if they're held back for ages. It's probably a factor in the drop in singles sales (though I don't think it could be the only factor) as people start more routinely using Youtube or whatever to listen to songs which they aren't "allowed" to buy yet, and the record labels really need to wake up asap.

Only 'Get Lucky' and 'Mirrors' were OA/OS, the rest were just tracks from previously available albums (so all racked up a number of sales before entering the chart).

But that makes them OA/OS to all intents and purposes, no, since they were available to buy from the point when they started getting serious promotion/airplay/video-play? No sales for those songs were "lost" in the way they would definitely have been for 'Roar' and 'La La La'.

Do you have the total sales & gift card week sales for What About Us and Disco Love? (if either of them charted in the top 200)

Yea that's why I counted them as on air releases. Record companies don't like it because artists that rely on no1s for a successful career lose out with releasing early!

Please- :D

Ouch, I really would've thought Direct Hits had passed the 200k mark by now.

It seems unlikely it'll reach platinum status now, isn't it?
