I've noticed a couple of others with a similar opinion and it's performed better than "Brokenhearted" and "Juliet", the two singles from the re-release that were released after being held back and peaked top 10. Not bad going even if it exited sharply after peaking. Fifth UK single from "Wild Ones", "Let It Roll", failed to go top 10 like the rest of them and kinda deservedly so (although I'd rank it above "Whistle"). Flo Rida always being up for a good sample, this one used a portion of "Let the Good Time Roll". Wiley enlisted Chip (aka. Chipmunk) and Ms D (uncredited vocals) for "Reload", the third single to be released from his album "The Ascent". It didn't leave much impression on me at all, especially compared to some of his other singles such as "Heatwave" (which also featured Ms D). Follow-up single "Lights On" appears to have started a trend of singles to be 'held back' post-album and thus matched the peak of "Reload". Fast fading boyband The Wanted are at #162 with a single that for once wasn't held back. "We Own The Night" is the 4th single from album "Word of Mouth", arriving ages after "Chasing the Sun" and "I Found You". A discount helped it return iirc but they were already fading too much even though the song is miles better than "Walks Like Rihanna" (still to come later on). X Factor 2012 winner James Arthur finishes us off with debut original single "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You". It had a decent start before crashing completely when it left the top 10. He's not helped himself recently with some choice comments but I don't think the song itself is too bad and parts of his album are really good.

Nonetheless, his single 'On My Way' was picked up and supported heavily by the station helping it to become a top 10 hit. Probably fair to say it's one of the year's most forgettable hits. The follow-up single featuring Misha B did absolutely nothing so he's probably no longer on his way to anything but obscurity. Two more hangover moments next, at #159 is Ellie Goulding with the brilliant 2012 #5 hit 'Anything Could Happen' which re-entered the top 40 midyear after a performance on Britain's Got Talent and most recently re-entered due to her duet with Luke Friend on The X Factor. Not so brilliant is Maroon 5's 2012 #9 hit 'One More Night' in 158th. It's one of their most tolerable songs to be fair. All 4 of Ellie's 2013 releases are still to come but Maroon 5's follow-up single 'Daylight' peaked at just #63 and falls well short of this top 200, leaving 'One More Night' their highest entry here. Katy Perry is at #157 with 'Unconditionally' which just avoided being her lowest peaking single, going 2 places higher than 'Thinking Of You' courtesy of an X Factor performance. I won't make THAT joke (Thermo may fill me in) but I can't comment on this song without mentioning her terrible pronunciation of the titular adverb. Even aside from that it's a very nothingy song and not hard to see why it underperformed. Next single 'Dark Horse' feat. Juicy J seems set to rightfully do much better based on its US success and in fact already has a better peak, reaching #21 as a promo single. Finally at #156 is Breach with novelty dance track 'Jack', which features his own vocals heavily processed to sound female. I like the song but I do understand why so many people don't. The more serious (and better) follow-up single 'Everything You Never Had (We Had It All)' feat. Andreya Triana would have made the top 200 if it had one more week to rack up points. It matched the #9 peak of 'Jack'.
January 4, 201411 yr I won't make THAT joke (Thermo may fill me in) Why me? I didn't even start that joke!
January 4, 201411 yr Sad to see some of my favorites are out so early. Learn to Love Again, Reload, and On My Way are all good tracks. Unconditionally deserved so much more!

We start with the boring, "Only Love", the fourth single from Ben Howard's debut album "Every Kingdom". It re-peaked inside the top 10 following a performance at the BRIT awards in February 2013. Then we move to the downright annoying, "Eat Sleep Rave Repeat". With the help of a remix from Calvin Harris, the song became Fatboy Slim's first top ten hit since 2001. It thankfully didn't grace the charts for too wrong, I choose which is more annoying out of this or "Jack" by Breach. Quality gradually improving, Selena Gomez's "Come & Get It" is at #153. This Bollywood/tribal-infused single (that was originally written for Rihanna) served as the lead single from "Stars Dance". The even better follow-up, "Slow Down", is down on the release schedule for next month...it just ain't happening. :'( We continue with the Disney girls with Demi Lovato's fantastic 2011 ballad, "Skyscraper", up next. One of my favourite songs of 2011, the track finally got the recognition it deserved with the help from The X Factor, where it later featured as the single for winner Sam Bailey. Finishing off the first quarter of the countdown is Taylor Swift. "We Are Never...", the first single from album "Red", stuck around into the first part of 2013 after being a huge smash in late 2012. Follow-up single "I Knew You Were Trouble.", which took off to become an even bigger hit in the UK, is to come a lot later on.
January 13, 201411 yr WANEGBT  Still such an amazing song, Taylor's best IMO. Skyscraper and C&GI are fab too, and I agree with what you said about the first two. Only Love is dull and Eat Sleep Rave Repeat is just awful.
January 13, 201411 yr Only Love <3 not even his best, but it was good to see him get an unexpected top 10 hit from it. ESRR I liked at the time but haven't listened to much lately, Come & Get It remains bland/monotonous and Skyscraper remains unlistenable ;D

The bottom end of the top 150 consists of two post-album singles by acts nominated for Best British Breakthrough at the 2014 BRITs. Bastille's 'Things We Lost In The Fire' was always a fan favourite and an obvious single choice, proving this by returning them to the top 40 (and top 30) after they missed out with previous single 'Laura Palmer'. Disclosure's 'F For You' was a less obvious single choice but apparently a wise one as it gave them a 4th straight top 20 hit, with further post-album singles not coming close to its success (maybe 'Confess To Me' will one day... nah). Justin Bieber had 12 top 40 hits in 2013, far more than any other artist, but his only appearance in the top 200 here as the lead artist is 'Beauty And A Beat' feat. Nicki Minaj, a #16 hit in 2012 that had bizarrely good longevity at the start of 2013. If all ten Music Mondays tracks were combined they'd still only be #106 on this countdown. Bieber has one more entry to go assisting will.i.am on '#thatPOWER'. At #147 is the dream team of 50 Cent, Eminem and Adam Levine with 'My Life'. Before this song came out Fiddy seemed to be done as a chart force in the UK but this actually came very close to giving him a first #1 single. He's disappeared again since then though. Maybe next time. 'My Life' continued the run of Maroon 5's Adam Levine actually being tolerable when he's a featured vocalist on other people's songs (but never in his own band). Finally at #146 is Gary Barlow's 'Let Me Go', a Mumford & Sons pastiche that finally proved Gary Barlow had potential for success as a solo artist (he did have two #1 singles and a #1 album in his short-lived first attempt at a solo career but his new album 'Since I Saw You Last', despite missing #1, has already outsold that album and 'Let Me Go' is almost certain to be more remembered than either of his solo #1 singles). The follow-up has, however, done bugger all so far, so maybe this isn't the start of Barlow solo domination. I'm sure the upcoming 2014 Take That album will keep his pockets nicely lined though.

Sampling two dance classics ("Rhythm is a Dancer" and "The Rhythm of the Night"), "Of The Night" was released as the lead single from the re-release of Bastille's debut album, "All This Bad Blood". It became their second #2, following on from "Pompeii", and was only very narrowly beaten by Lily Allen's cover of "Somewhere Only We Know" (for which we can be thankful - whilst not awful by any means, we did not need this being their first #1)! Chris Brown's "Fine China", taken from his upcoming album "X", managed a few weeks in the lower half of the top 40 without blowing up to be as big as some of his previous singles. The song has influences from Michael Jackson but I personally find it pretty dull, give me "Don't Wake Me Up" (YES) any day over this. A strange one-week top 10 hit, "Other Side of Love" didn't do anything major but outperformed some expectations and I really love it, it's catchy and I randomly just latched onto it when it was around. The track is taken from Sean Paul's upcoming album "Full Frequency". Soon-to-be actress in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie Rita Ora is in 142nd position with the lesser "Radioactive", the fourth single from album "Ora". Can you believe that Sia is a co-writer on this track?? We all know that Rita is a very basic artisté anyway but I find this to be one of her worst offenders (keep away with "Shine Ya Light" shade). Will she manage much success with her second opus? Finishing us off is another fourth single, this one taken from Little Mix's debut album "DNA". The single mix which doesn't appear on the album features American rapper Missy Elliott. It was initially one of my least favourites on the album (bearing more difference with the first three singles) but it's really catchy and easy to sing along to with fun production and lyrics. The number you have dialed has been changed.

Kelly. The song was chart ineligible for its first couple of weeks but managed to go top 10 nonetheless. It was a much, much better song than the lead single 'Applause' and I don't think I'll ever get why she chose that as the lead single. More recently the song has been updated (downdated is a more apt word) with a new version featuring Christina Aguilera. Still no music video though. The crazy genre-evading Dutch trio of Showtek, We Are Loud and Sonny Wilson are up next with 'Booyah', one of the year's less predictable and more amazing top 5 hits. Another song that suffered from chart ineligibility but in this case for one week in the middle of its run leading to a rather strange looking chart run is Eminem's 'Berzerk' at #138. The song gave Em a third #2 hit since his last #1, but his drought of chart toppers was soon brought to an end with a little help from Rihanna on 'The Monster', still to come. Fellow massively successful rapper Kanye West didn't really make that much of an impact on the charts with his 2013 album 'Yeezus', perhaps due to its fairly experimental nature, but lead single and ANTHEM 'Black Skinhead' was a slow-burning low top 40 hit that did enough to secure #137 here. Beating both Eminem and Kanye though is Eminem's mentor Dr. Dre, with his feature on Blackstreet's 1996 #9 hit 'No Diggity'. The song was returned to the public eye by its use in the film 'Pitch Perfect', but the main reason it racked up an impressive 18 weeks in the top 100 in 2013 (and 4 more in 2014 so far) was its persistent presence in iTunes' 59p offers, returning to the chart every time the offer received renewed advertising.

They're a very hit and miss duo for me with their two biggest hits falling into the 'miss' category along with follow-up single 'Skip To The Good Bit' but this one really clicked with me. 'Hey Brother' is the third single from Swedish producer Avicii's album, 'True'. Featuring uncredited vocals from Dan Tyminski, it turned into a bigger smash than previous single 'You Make Me'. Despite the overplay, I've got into it kinda late and still appreciate it now whereas 'Wake Me Up' fails to excite these days. Next we find empowerment anthem 'Change Your Life', the third single to be taken from Little Mix's debut album 'DNA'. The track received performances on Dancing on Ice, Graham Norton and This Morning and I think it did the business as a post-album single. A nice, not outstanding track that was one of the best single options. Yet another third single, this time it's 'Crazy Kids' by Ke$ha, taken from the album 'Warrior'. The single version features Black Eyed Peas frontman and The Voice coach will.i.am. After previous single 'C'mon' flopped (and deservedly so, it's very weak), it was a nice surprise to see this one manage eight weeks in the top 40! Finally (with yet another third single in one section) we have boyband The Wanted who have announced a ""break"" following their upcoming tour. I used to be a fan but 'Walks Like Rihanna' is dreadful, it's catchy but the title and lyrics make me cringe to high heaven. No loss, Nathan was the only one worth caring for anyway.

'Animals' by Dutch teenager Martin Garrix first surfaced on the web anonymously through Vine and gained hype by people trying to guess who it was by. I don't think they'd ever have got it if it wasn't revealed considering it was Garrix's first major release. Another prodigious teen is at #129, this time Jake Bugg with his biggest hit to date, 'Lightning Bolt' off his self-titled debut. 2013 saw the release of his second album 'Shangri La' but no singles from it trouble this top 200 ('What Doesn't Kill You' is at #288, below another track off the debut, his best single 'Broken' at #239). There's a smudge of shit at #128 then the glorious 'Attracting Flies' by the super underrated duo AlunaGeorge at #127. They had major hype from the Sound of 2013 list but it never really solidified into any major success, aside from their feature on Disclosure's 'White Noise'. Finally at #126 is Gabrielle Aplin with 'Please Don't Say You Love Me', which was originally intended to be her debut single, but then she was picked up by John Lewis before she had a chance to release it and they postponed it while her cover of 'The Power Of Love' went to #1. 'Please Don't Say You Love Me' gave her another top 10 hit, her last and (marginally) worst to date. Her actually good songs were still to come but unfortunately didn't do near as well in the chart.
March 15, 201411 yr If 'Animals' doesn't count as an instrumental then neither does 'Flat Beat' as it has the following lyrics spoken at the start of the song: Oh yeah, I used to know Quinnan He's a real, he's a real jerk
March 15, 201411 yr Author I haven't actually ever heard 'Flat Beat' in full so I feared that might be the case  Wikipedia actually does call 'Animals' an instrumental as well. In that case the last instrumental #1 was 'Doop' in 1994 and before that Simon Park Orchestra's 'Eye Level' way back in 1973. With dance music more popular than ever these days it's surely only a matter of time before we get another truly instrumental #1.

"Strong" is the biggest hit from the trio so far, being their only single to chart in the top 20 and it's also made an impact outside of the UK too, going top 5 in Australia and rightly so, it's easily the best thing I've heard from them. One place above is Ellie Goulding with a cover of Scottish band The Waterboys. "How Long Will I Love You" served as the second single from "Halcyon Days" and was also the official single for Children In Need last year. It's a sweet song but it's been inescapable during the past few months and driven me a little crazy with it being everywhere. A point ahead is "Give It 2 U", the follow-up to the biggest song of 2013, "Blurred Lines". I think it's so much better and it's a shame it never properly took off following the success of the aforementioned song. Alongside Kendrick Lamar, a remix also features American rapper 2 Chainz who is officially credited on the next song, Tinie Tempah's "Trampoline", which was the lead single from Tinie's second album "Demonstration". Not the best from Tinie but not his worst by any means. The chart run looks pretty poor. We finish this section off with "R U Crazy", a single taken from Conor Maynard's upcoming second album. We are yet to hear a follow-up single! I've been a bit on the fence with Conor previously, hugely disliking his first two singles, but I thought this one was really good and probably the best thing I've heard from him so I anticipate new music whenever we get it!
