It does feel like 'Salute' was a lot bigger than a fleeting top 10 hit. I imagine it would've sold similarly to 'Move' if it was released pre-album.

 

Brilliant to see 'Black Magic' still climbing - I'm excited to see how high it gets following R1 playlisting. It's now sitting at #9 now on Australian iTunes too. :)

Nah. I think they should just release it to Spotify early!

Great to see being made Radio 1 Track Of The Day give it a boost, hopefully that means they will playlist it along with Capital and that will give the girls an even better shot at #1. This build up is quite exciting.

I'm probably going to look thick here, but what is the advantage of releasing it on Spotify early? Generating interest and promoting the track?

 

Can the track chart from streams alone before the single's download release date? Or are the streaming points held back until release week? (I'm assuming this isn't the case as it seems unfair).

A track usually takes about 2-3 weeks to reach a decent position (sometimes a peak, depending on what type of song it is) on the streaming charts. So if they can get that momentum going, before release week (and due to the success of the pre-order, I wouldn't be surprised if it did chart on streams alone) it'd put them at an advantage over other new releases that week (hope that clarifies it a bit haha, I'm rubbish with wording things usually :P)

Yeah, echoing what Jonjo said, it's kinda weird. But songs generally peak in their 3rd week on the streaming service. For example, the week Jason Derulo went to #1, he was only #11 on the streaming charts, but went to #2 the following two weeks. Carly Rae went to #21 on the streaming charts the week she stormed to #3, but was #4 the next week. Getting a song on early means that songs have a much higher possibility of peaking on airplay as well as sales at the same time, guaranteeing a higher chart position.
